Jisoo returns with earthquake music video from new mini-album AMORTAGE on Valentine's Day

Express Tribune14-02-2025

BLACKPINK's Jisoo has made her highly-anticipated solo return with her mini-album AMORTAGE, released on February 14, 2025. The album features four tracks, with the lead single 'Earthquake' quickly gaining attention for its unique vibe and accompanying music video. In the video, Jisoo portrays an office worker who, despite her dull workday, finds excitement through the unexpected presence of her lover.
Unlike her debut solo single, 'Flower,' which leaned more into romantic elegance, 'Earthquake' carries a much stronger, more powerful energy. Jisoo receives a text message from her lover, asking, 'How is your day going?' She begins to respond but is suddenly interrupted as a mysterious figure snatches her phone and places it in an evidence packet, hinting at her lover's potential involvement in something shady.
Suddenly, the ordinary office setting transforms, and Jisoo finds herself strapped to a lie detector, answering questions about her true feelings for her lover. When asked about her emotions, she passionately replies, 'he hits me like an earthquake,' describing how he makes her 'heart race.' Just as the intensity peaks, a car crashes into the room, allowing her to reclaim her phone and respond to her lover's message. The scene ends with a twist—everything we've seen was a figment of Jisoo's imagination, a brief fantasy that gives her an exhilarating break from her routine office life.
Musically, 'Earthquake' impresses with its groovy beats, Jisoo's powerful vocals, and a catchy, addictive chorus. The track has a similar feel to her 2023 hit, 'Flower,' but brings something fresh and unique, making 'Earthquake' a standout moment in Jisoo's solo journey. The music video is now available to watch online.

BLACKPINK's Lisa to star in upcoming documentary

K-pop star Lisa, popularly recognised as a member of BLACKPINK, is exploring a new venture after her music career and acting credit in The White Lotus. As per Variety, it was announced on Thursday that the Money singer will be the subject of a documentary film from Sony Music Vision and director Sue Kim. Kim discussed her document at the Sony event, along with Baz Luhrmann and Frank Marshall, who also shared updates on their features. Kim, who was an executive producer on Apple TV+'s docuseries K-Pop Idols, said that she's been working with Lisa for a year, though no release date has been finalised. A trailer for the film was unveiled during the presentation, showing concert footage of the star performing solo and personal moments with her loved ones. Kim mentioned that after the two met up for the first time, Lisa reached out to her non-celebrity friends, asking them to appear in the documentary. "This has been such an incredible year, and I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to capture these special moments on film and share the experience with my fans," Lisa said in a statement. "Working with Sue Kim has been such a joy. We've been all around the world together and I know this is just the beginning of many more exciting things to come." The director also expressed enthusiasm in her own statement. "Following Lisa on this transformative and thrilling year has been a true honor and a cinematic gift," Kim said. "There have been so many moments on her journey that I think will surprise people and give a glimpse into her world that no one's ever seen before. I'm excited for viewers to watch the film and witness this extraordinary moment in her life." The news of the documentary comes after the release of Lisa's debut solo album, Alter Ego. Following BLACKPINK's hiatus, all four members branched out in pursuit of solo careers. The group is all set to reunite this year for a world tour. The Asia leg of their World Tour: Deadline kicks off in October, beginning with two nights at the Kaohsiung National Stadium. This will be followed by shows in Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, and Singapore. After a two-month break, the quartet will fly to Hong Kong to close out the tour in January. Deadline will mark BLACKPINK's return to the stage as a unit after the tour for their album Born Pink in 2023. It made history as the highest-grossing tour by a girl group, recording 1.8 million fans worldwide.

BLACKPINK's Lisa faces backlash for controversial Met Gala 2025 outfit featuring Rosa Parks imagery

K-pop star Lisa, a member of BLACKPINK, made her Met Gala debut on May 5, 2025, but her appearance sparked controversy due to the design of her outfit. The singer, 28, arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a pantsless look consisting of sheer Louis Vuitton tights, a black embellished blazer, and statement underwear. Criticism quickly emerged on social media when viewers noticed that Lisa's undergarments appeared to be adorned with images of historical Black figures, including civil rights icon Rosa Parks. The detail led to backlash, with some users calling the design choice inappropriate and disrespectful—particularly in light of past controversies involving the singer. so you get exposed for saying nigga, don't acknowledge it and then pop up to a black people themed event with rosa parks on your moose knuckle? — ‏͏͏ً (@Ieophobe) May 5, 2025 Rosa Parks finna be trending on here for wrong reason, oh lord… — ⋆⭒˚.⋆Moonie⋆⭒˚.⋆ (@prodby_moonie) May 6, 2025 Lisa after wearing them Rosa Parks panties: — Donna 👾 (@Donut_Crazs) May 6, 2025 Using Rosa Parks' image in this manner appears to be a blatant lack of respect and sensitivity towards her legacy and the struggles she faced during the Civil Rights it reinforces harmful racial stereotypes & undermines the progress made in combating racism. — ★ (@vnteex) May 6, 2025 I was wondering why Rosa Parks was trending got scared.... I know Lisa does not have Rosa Parks all over her underwear right now. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA????? Mind you not only is it highly distasteful how is this on theme? — OneLove (@bhloverrr) May 5, 2025 does she feel so on top that she can disrespect a whole race not even once and without even apologising and then go to the extent of putting some like rosa parks on her panties tf?? — rin (@tansluvr) May 6, 2025 Roughly a month prior to the event, resurfaced footage from BLACKPINK's pre-debut days showed Lisa and fellow members allegedly using the n-word during audition performances. Neither Lisa nor her bandmates Jennie or Rosé have publicly addressed the videos, which further fueled criticism over her Met Gala look. Many fans expressed frustration online, describing the decision to feature Rosa Parks on the undergarments as 'tone-deaf,' especially given the Met Gala's 2025 theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' which aimed to celebrate Black fashion and heritage. However, some supporters praised Lisa's fashion-forward approach, calling her styling bold and glamorous. Positive comments highlighted her hair, makeup, and confidence on the red carpet. Lisa has not publicly responded to the controversy, and Louis Vuitton has yet to issue a statement regarding the outfit's design. The 2025 Met Gala continues to stir debate as it intersects fashion with social and cultural commentary, drawing both admiration and criticism for celebrity interpretations of the annual theme.

BLACKPINK's Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa attend Met Gala 2025 in tailored fashion tribute

Members of the global K-pop group BLACKPINK—Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa—made a highly anticipated appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The trio graced the red carpet in support of this year's theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' which celebrated the legacy of Black fashion and dandyism. Known for their bold fashion choices and global influence, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa each brought distinct interpretations of the gala's 'Tailored for You' dress code. While full outfit details are still emerging, early red carpet photos show the artists wearing custom ensembles blending contemporary tailoring with luxury design influences. Their appearance added star power and international flair to one of fashion's most watched annual events. The 2025 Met Gala theme pays tribute to Black tailoring traditions and personal expression through structured silhouettes, drawing inspiration from the Costume Institute's spring exhibition. The event brought together leading figures from entertainment, fashion, sports, and art. Although BLACKPINK's fourth member, Jisoo, did not appear to be in attendance, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa's presence marked a notable moment for K-pop representation at the event. The group's appearance comes amid ongoing global solo activities for each member, with frequent appearances at major fashion weeks and luxury brand campaigns. This year's Met Gala continues to serve as a major convergence point of culture, music, and couture, with BLACKPINK once again proving their influence extends far beyond the stage.
