'My role as a collector is directly linked to my work as an architect, which is integrally involved with the artistic notions of our time,' he wrote in the introductory essay for the catalog of the 1982 MFA exhibit 'A Private Vision: Contemporary Art from the Graham Gund Collection.'

Mr. Gund, who left his most sweeping visual and philanthropic legacy in Ohio
'Graham was a pillar of the MFA and a true believer in the role of public art museums,' Matthew Teitelbaum, the Ann and Graham Gund director of the MFA wrote to museum trustees and advisers after Mr. Gund died.

'He was about light, scale, material, movement, entrance and exit, and the feeling you get when you are embraced in a building,' Teitelbaum added.
Mr. Gund and his wife, Ann, both honorary trustees, endowed the MFA director's position and the Ann and Graham Gund Gallery. In addition, Mr. Gund was the museum's longest-serving trustee, joining the board in 1973.
Through his board work and donations of artworks, Mr. Gund guided the visual experiences of MFA patrons much in the way he helped define Greater Boston's skyline with the buildings he designed. Those included the Hyatt Regency hotel, along the Cambridge side of the Charles River, and 75 State Street, a 31-story office tower in downtown Boston that is topped with windows framed in gold leaf.
'It fits neatly, even gracefully, into the complicated web of little streets, and as such proves that it is not true that tall new buildings must always be at odds with older central business districts,'
Mr. Gund was always keenly sensitive to the surroundings of the buildings he designed, and to the history of the buildings he renovated.
In an interview, Goldberger said Mr. Gund 'was motivated by a desire to do right' by the locations where buildings would stand.
'His starting point was not just a shape in his head,' said Goldberger, who as a Kenyon College trustee saw

As president of Gund Partnership, the firm he founded more than 50 years ago, Mr. Gund designed, developed, and oversaw the planning and creation of buildings and projects across the country — from
Locally, he had served as a trustee, director, chairman, or board member of institutions including the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Boston Society of Architects, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Foundation for Architecture, which he founded.
He also had been a member or trustee of, or had served on, the National Committee on Design, the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, and the National Building Museum and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
In a 2004 Globe interview, Mr. Gund called Boston his favorite city. 'It has everything: a sense of neighborhood, a wonderful scale,' he said.
But he retained an abiding affection for all his creations, wherever they rose from plans to prominence.
'I'd like to live in 'em all,'

Born in Cleveland on Oct. 28, 1940, Graham de Condé Gund was part of one of the wealthiest families in the nation.
His father,
Young Graham was a bookkeeper and teller. 'It was kind of slow,' he told the Globe in 1985. 'I kept wishing there would be a robbery or something to liven things up.'
His mother, Jessica Roesler Gund, sensed his artistic talent when he was young, and died when he was 12. Mr. Gund was then sent to boarding school, where a roommate died young of cancer.
'Very early on, when faced with any difficulty, I looked for ways to organize and transform everything, from my room to the surrounding landscape,' Mr. Gund told the Globe. 'It was a way to make things right. I would create this perfect environment in which to exist. I think all art grows out of some kind of struggle.'
He graduated from Westminster School in Connecticut and headed to Kenyon. His bachelor's degree was in psychology, which necessitated taking art courses at the Rhode Island School of Design to prepare for the Harvard Graduate School of Design, from which he graduated with a master's in architecture and a master's in urban design.
Before founding his own firm, Mr. Gund worked for The Architects Collaborative, a legendary Cambridge firm where Walter Gropius, the modernist who founded the Bauhaus school in Germany, was a mentor.
Mr. Gund's affluence allowed him to accumulate his impressive art collection and to be both architect and developer with new buildings, such as the Hyatt, and rehabilitation projects, such as the Charles Bulfinch-designed courthouse in Cambridge that he turned into a home for offices for business such as his firm.

He wore his wealth lightly, though. When he met
'He's so meticulous with his architecture, as he is with friends,' she said, and that included waiting seven years after they met before asking her to dinner. Mr. Gund was 'a very steady, thorough, thoughtful person. He never did anything radically or quickly.'
In addition to Ann and their son, Graydon of New York City, Mr. Gund leaves two sisters, Agnes of New York and Louise of Berkeley, Calif.; and two brothers, Gordon of Princeton, N.J., and Geoffrey of New York.
A celebration of Mr. Gund's life will be announced.
'He was so driven to pursue his craft, which financially he certainly didn't have to do, and that shows how much faithfulness he had to his craft and to the importance of work,' said his friend David Rockefeller, a philanthropist and life trustee of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. 'He worked so hard all his life and did it so beautifully.'

Password Party's Over: Nearly 50% of Americans Continue to Re-use Passwords Despite Phishing Attacks on the Rise
STOCKHOLM & SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Regulatory News: A new survey from Yubico (NASDAQ STOCKHOLM: YUBICO), a modern cybersecurity company on a mission to make the internet safer for everyone, today reveals a tale of two cities – or, more accurately, ten. While New Yorkers rush to catch a train and Californians are stuck in traffic, nearly half of Americans (48%) are still stuck using the same password for multiple online accounts. Even worse? When asked what they think is the most secure method, only 3% believed in using a hardware security key which is considered to be the most effective tool available to stop phishing. Conducted by Talker Research, the survey of online habits across the top 10 U.S. metro markets reveals a nation that thinks it's security-savvy but is still making rookie mistakes. From password reuse to overconfidence in spotting AI-enhanced phishing scams, here's a look at which cities are winning the security game – and which ones need to step it up. 'Yubico's survey reveals a wake-up call: many people have a false sense of security when it comes to their online accounts being protected,' said Ronnie Manning, Yubico's chief brand advocate. 'They are overconfident in their safety, yet they still hold on to risky habits that can be tempting for today's modern hackers. The YubiKey isn't just a product; it's a statement that proves your security is non-negotiable. It gives you the power to secure your entire digital life with one simple, human touch.' The City Showdown: Who Needs a Digital Pep Talk? New York vs. Los Angeles: Over 48% of all respondents admitting to reusing passwords, we can only imagine the number of New Yorkers who are using the same password for their finance app as they are for their favorite bodega rewards program. And in LA, where the traffic is a constant grind, maybe it's not a surprise that password updates are a rarity, with 19% only changing them when they are prompted or have experienced a security incident. Seattle vs. Denver vs. San Francisco Bay Area: Tech-giant cities Seattle and San Francisco agree: MFA is used by 70% of Seattleites and 67% of San Franciscans. In fact, San Franciscans take it a step further with 64% setting up passkeys whenever available. Meanwhile, their competitor for top U.S. tech hub, Denver, lags behind – being one of the most likely to use the same password for multiple accounts (50%) and to admit to not using any specific security methods beyond basic passwords (11%). Chicago vs. Atlanta: While a significant portion of consumers believe that strong, unique passwords are the most secure method (22%), they're missing the bigger picture. Atlanta, meanwhile, is on the rise, with 62% of consumers actively turning on MFA when available. Looks like southern hospitality includes protecting your friends from getting hacked. Dallas-Fort Worth vs. Houston: Does anyone in the Lone Star State still use their pet's name for a password? A surprising 13% of all respondents admitted to doing so. Let's make security as big as everything else in Texas! Washington, D.C. vs. New York City: The survey shows that 42% of people in Washington, D.C., are worried about their financial institutions being hacked. The cities are neck and neck when it comes to adopting passkeys, with 61% of New Yorkers and 62% of D.C. area residents setting up the technology to protect their online accounts. The survey also found that despite a majority (62%) feeling confident they can spot a phishing attack, 39% reported experiencing a cybersecurity incident in the last year. With over 64% of people turning on MFA, the momentum is there, but most are still using less secure methods like text message codes. The fact remains that the only 2FA method to defend against phishing attacks 100% of the time is a hardware security key. For more survey insights, see here. HireRoad's Acendre Recruit Achieves PROTECTED Classification Through Independent IRAP Assessment
'Anyone can say they're secure. What matters is being assessed, held to a standard, and actively improving – it's exactly what government clients expect in today's cyber climate.'— Liam Ackland, Managing Director, HireRoad MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, August 17, 2025 / / -- HireRoad today announced that Acendre Recruit, its flagship recruitment platform purpose-built for government, has successfully completed an independent assessment under the Australian Government's Infosec Registered Assessor Program (IRAP). Aligned with the March 2025 release of the Information Security Manual (ISM), the assessment confirms Acendre Recruit's suitability to process, store, and transmit PROTECTED-classified information — one of the highest assurance levels recognised by the Commonwealth. The assessment confirms Acendre Recruit's alignment with stringent Australian Government cyber security standards. 'Cyber security is not a nice-to-have anymore, it is foundational. That's why we continue to invest beyond compliance, building a secure environment that meets today's expectations and anticipates tomorrow's requirements,' said Liam Ackland, Managing Director at HireRoad. 'While others rely on inherited certifications or vague claims of compliance, Acendre Recruit has undergone a full, independent IRAP assessment across infrastructure, application, and governance layers. Anyone can say they're secure. What matters is being assessed, held to a standard, and actively improving – it's exactly what government clients expect in today's cyber climate.' The IRAP assessment identified multiple areas of security strength within Acendre Recruit's environment, including: – ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified information security management system (ISMS) – A rigorous software development lifecycle (SecDevOps) – Enforced a zero-trust remote access model with jump hosts and MFA – Regular penetration testing and proactive governance oversight 'Acendre continues to be the gold standard in supporting Australian public sector hiring needs, and Acendre Recruit's successful IRAP assessment is the latest milestone in our journey to deliver continued excellence to our customers,' said John Baker, Regional CTO Australia at HireRoad. 'We're not just checking boxes – our systems and processes are constantly evolving to meet the threat landscape and enable agencies to recruit with confidence.' While the system has already achieved alignment with PROTECTED classification, HireRoad is actively finalising a set of enhancements through its Plan of Action and Milestones, including: – Application allowlisting rollout (Airlock Digital) – Network egress controls – Centralisation of all logs into SIEM – Phishing-resistant MFA enforcement for all users – Legacy system deprecation and patching SLAs – Essential Eight Maturity Level 2 compliance by September 2025 For clients, this announcement means: – Verified assurance: Acendre Recruit meets Australian Government standards for PROTECTED data – Transparency: Full IRAP reports available under NDA – Continued progress: Active remediation aligned to the Essential Eight and ISM controls Setting the Standard for Government HR Technology The Australian Government continues to lift the bar on cyber accountability, not only through evolving frameworks like the ISM and Essential Eight, but also by embedding these expectations into contractual obligations across federal and state procurement. As one of the most established and trusted providers in the sector, HireRoad addresses these changes through experience, security maturity, and platform configurability. Acendre Recruit has been purpose-built for complex, compliant hiring environments for over two decades. The team has made significant strides in its security roadmap in recent years to ensure it stays ahead of the market and delivers value to customers. 'CIOs are now central to technology selection, and rightly so,' added Ackland. 'When systems host sensitive government data, agencies deserve to make decisions based on evidence, not loosely aligned statements of intent. This IRAP milestone provides the independent assurance they need to move forward with confidence.'
