Khan Sir's Patna Raksha Bandhan: 15,000 sisters, colourful rakhis, and a 156-dish feast

Synopsis
Khan Sir's Raksha Bandhan celebration in Patna drew over 15,000 students. Young women tied rakhis to their teacher, whom they see as an elder brother. The event took place at SK Memorial Hall. Khan Sir arranged a feast with 156 dishes and gifted each student a course. The celebration fostered a sense of community among students away from their families.
TOI.in Raksha Bandhan in Bihar's capital took on a grand, heartwarming twist this year when popular educator and YouTuber Khan Sir celebrated the festival with thousands of his students. Over 15,000 young women, many far from their own brothers and families, came together to tie rakhis to the teacher they affectionately call their elder brother. The scene — arms laden with bright threads, laughter echoing through the hall — quickly went viral, melting hearts across social media.
For many participants, the day offered comfort and connection that distance from family often denies. Travelling from different corners of the country, they gathered at SK Memorial Hall not just for the ritual, but for the sense of belonging. 'It is my good fortune that my students tie rakhi. We have to protect our rich culture,' Khan Sir told PTI.
He spoke of Raksha Bandhan as more than a yearly custom — calling it a thread of love, duty, and trust. Playfully, he added in a video clip, 'I am not able to raise my hand,' as hundreds of rakhis piled up on his wrists.
To make sure no one left without a memory, Khan Sir organised an elaborate spread — 156 different dishes — for his 'sisters.'
Each was also gifted a crash course worth ₹99, a symbolic token of appreciation. Between the teasing banter and shared meals, the event struck the perfect balance between joy and sentiment. His lighthearted quip, 'Now, how will we get up?' after the marathon rakhi-tying session, drew cheers and chuckles from the crowd. While many know Khan Sir for his viral lectures and down-to-earth teaching style, his annual Raksha Bandhan celebrations have become a tradition of their own. Year after year, he transforms the classroom into a cultural space where values and connections matter as much as lessons and exams. For students far from home, the occasion offers a reminder that family bonds can be built, not just born. This year's event, once again, left an imprint online — with admiration pouring in for his humility and the genuine affection between teacher and students.

Musician hangs self while on video call with wife in London

Surat: A 50-year-old musician from Surat died by suicide while on a video call with his wife, who is currently in London. The deceased, identified as Ojas Jariwala, reportedly told his wife he was missing her and asked her to return, moments before hanging himself from a ceiling fan. The incident took place around 1.30 am on Sunday in Jariwala's 12th-floor apartment at Sarjan Palace, located in the Chowk Bazar police station area. Police have registered a case of accidental death and placed his body in cold storage, awaiting the arrival of his wife. According to police, Jariwala, a keyboard player associated with a local music orchestra, was alone when the incident happened. Jariwala's two daughters aged 22-years and 12-years had gone to their maternal uncle's home in Bharuch to celebrate Rakshabandhan. His wife, Rekha alias Deviyani, is a singer. Both had applied for UK visas for a music event, but while Deviyani's visa was approved along with her brother's, Jariwala's application was rejected. On Sunday, during a late-night video call, Jariwala expressed his longing for her return. He then climbed onto a chair and went out of the camera's view, possibly after his phone slipped from position. Alarmed, his wife contacted an acquaintance living on the building's seventh floor, who broke into the locked flat and found Jariwala hanging. "We have kept the body in cold storage. His wife is on her way from the UK," a police official said, adding that both were well-known in the local music fraternity.
