Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool striker talks SET

Yahoo5 hours ago

Fabrizio Romano confirms that talks for a Liverpool striker are now set. This one could move quickly.
Liverpool are all about strikers this summer as they look to strike deals in both directions. Principally, their dream is to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Just how possible that is remains up to debate. Newcastle qualified for the UEFA Champions League, removing any need to sell - the question is whether they'd just like to.
Isak is worth an incredible amount of money, after all, and Newcastle lack PSR room. Selling the Swede would free up an incredible amount of space, allowing them to upgrade their squad in several places.
Though, whether those upgrades make up for losing Isak is another matter. And even then, Liverpool can't actually move for Isak until they've cleared a bit of space in their own squad.
Things are moving forward on that front, however.
Darwin Nunez in Napoli talks
Fabrizio Romano confirms that Napoli are to enter a final round of talks with Darwin Nunez's representatives as they see if a deal is possible. The Uruguayan is fully expected to leave Liverpool this season - it's just a question of where.

Napoli appear to be the favourites right now. That's after Nunez reportedly rejected a mega-offer from Al-Hilal ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Atletico Madrid are also supposedly looking into a possible deal for Liverpool's no.9. Napoli, though, look like frontrunners.
They're trying to offload Victor Osimhen and use the money to buy a new striker to lead the line. Nunez fits the bill but does he want to move there?
We're not sure what kind of wages they're offering, though Nunez's rejection of a Saudi Pro League move suggests he's not chasing money here. Instead, we imagine he's after a solid role with a top European club.

Napoli will try to offer him that. If he likes what they say in this last round of talks, Liverpool can fully expect an offer.
And it's one they're very open to receiving as they plan their own major moves.

Report: Wirtz successfully completes medical checks with Liverpool

Germany's Florian Wirtz (L) and France's Manu Kone stand on the pitch after the UEFA Nations League soccer match between Germany and France at Stuttgart Arena. Federico Gambarini/dpa Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz has successfully completed medical checks with Liverpool, broadcasters Sky reported on Friday. He's now expected to sign a deal with the Premier League champions until 2030. Advertisement The deal for the young forward could be worth up to €150 million ($172.74 million) including bonuses, making Wirtz the most expensive signing in Bundesliga and Premier League history. Only Paris Saint-German's moves for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have ever carried a higher transfer fee. The Germany international had been a major target for top European clubs, including Leverkusen's Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

Antonio Conte Reveals Message To Napoli Squad After 1-1 Serie A Draw Vs Inter Milan: ‘For The First Time, I Said It'

Antonio Conte Reveals Message To Napoli Squad After 1-1 Serie A Draw Vs Inter Milan: 'For The First Time, I Said It' Antonio Conte says that he finally gave his Serie A title message to the Napoli squad after their 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in March. The coach spoke to Italian outlet Sette, via FCInterNews. He recalled how that was the match where he was convinced that his team could dream of the title. Advertisement Napoli beat Inter Milan to the Serie A title in the season just gone. They did so on the final day of the season, by just a point. It was a campaign in which the Partenopei had the advantage in the title race for the majority of the time. However, it was also a season that saw Inter push Napoli all the way. They had chances to overtake the Partenopei right until the end, but failed to take advantage of them. Antonio Conte Reveals Serie A Title Message To Napoli After 1-1 Draw Vs Inter BERGAMO, ITALY – JANUARY 18: SSC Napoli coach Antonio Conte looks on before the Serie A match between Atalanta BC and SSC Napoli at Gewiss Stadium on January 18, 2025 in Bergamo, Italy. (Photo by) Napoli were able to establish a lead for themselves in the table relatively early on in the season. However, there was always a sense that this advantage was relatively precarious. Even with Inter's regular slip-ups in the league. Advertisement Wins over teams like AC Milan, Roma, Atalanta, and Juventus certainly gave Napoli more credibility in the title race. However, it was the head-to-head matches against Inter that really set the tone in the title race. In November, Inter hosted Napoli at the San Siro. The Nerazzurri were perhaps the better side then and unlucky to draw 1-1. But in Naples in March it was a much different story. Inter took the lead in the first half, but Napoli were absolutely dominant in the second half, and deservedly snatched a point late on. Napoli coach Antonio Conte recalled 'the one against Inter' as the match that really made him believe the title was possible. Advertisement 'When we cam behind. And even looked like we could've won it.' 'I said it publicly for the first time after that,' said Conte. 'If we want it, we can do it.' 'That was a message for my players,' the Napoli coach continued. 'I believed in it, and so they had to do so as well.' 'Then in football there's always room for the unlikely. The draw against Genoa seriously risked compromising our Scudetto chase.'
