Firemen rescue two exhausted hikers at Teluk Bahang Forest Park
BALIK PULAU: Two hikers suffering from dehydration and fatigue while climbing a hill at Teluk Bahang Forest Park, here, were rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel yesterday night.
Penang JBPM Fire and Rescue Operations assistant director John Sagun Francis said the man and woman, aged 40 and 34 respectively, contacted the department at 6.40 pm, informing them they were feeling weak.
'Firefighters from the Teluk Bahang Fire and Rescue Station were immediately sent to the scene after the victims shared their location via WhatsApp, indicating they were at Station 10 of the Teluk Bahang Forest Park.
'The firefighters hiked to the location and successfully found both individuals in an exhausted state. They were safely brought down to the foot of the hill at 10.51 pm,' he said in a statement.
Both victims were later handed over to the medical team for further treatment.

(JBPM pics) PETALING JAYA : A Taiwanese man died today when he was run over by a train after falling onto the tracks at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station. The Selangor fire and rescue department said the victim was in his 60s and that efforts to extricate the deceased were ongoing. The department spokesman added that the man had fallen onto the tracks. FMT has reached out to police for further information on the incident. Separately, rail operator Rapid KL confirmed the incident at the station along the Sri Petaling LRT line and said services have been suspended at the Bandar Puteri, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, Pusat Bandar Puchong and IOI Puchong Jaya stations. Bus services have been activated as an alternative for passengers. Rapid KL also said trains coming from the Putra Heights station would turn back at the Puchong Perdana station. Meanwhile, trains arriving from the Sentul Timur station will turn back at the Kinrara BK5 station. In February, a blind elderly man died when he was struck by a train after losing balance and falling onto the tracks at the Titiwangsa LRT station. Prasarana Malaysia Bhd later said it planned to install platform sensors at LRT stations to enhance passenger safety, particularly for people with disabilities. Prasarana also said then that it would begin installing platform screen doors at LRT stations, similar to those used in MRT stations.

19 goats killed in Penang farm blaze

(JBPM pic) GEORGE TOWN : Nineteen goats were killed in a fire that destroyed a livestock shed near a factory in Bayan Lepas this afternoon. The goats were in a pen at Lengkok Kampung Jawa which was 90% destroyed in the 1pm incident, a Penang fire and rescue department spokesman said. Firefighters from the Bayan Baru station arrived at the scene within six minutes and brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes before fully putting it out by 2pm. Nineteen goats trapped inside the shed were killed, but one managed to escape. No one was injured. The fire also damaged four vehicles parked nearby. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
