New York Post21 hours ago
Police in Puerto Rico have made an arrest tied to the fatal shooting of a US tourist who was visiting the island for a Bad Bunny concert — as new details about the tragic case emerged Monday.
Kenneth Giovanni Estrada Melendez is believed to have been the intended target of gunmen who opened fire inside a bar near Old San Juan on Sunday, killing 25-year-old Queens resident Kevin Mares, local reports said.
Melendez, 27, was picked up on a drug warrant after fleeing the scene, Puerto Rico's El Vocero reported.

Mares, who was on vacation with his longtime girlfriend, was at the bar, called El Refugio Para Hombres Maltratados — Spanish for 'the refuge for mistreated men' — in the downtrodden neighborhood of La Perla when a scuffle resulted in gunfire shortly before 4:15 a.m., the outlet said.

According to police, it was Melendez who was being targeted when Mares and two other bystanders were hit.

Mares was pronounced dead at a local hospital while the other two — identified in local reports as siblings Miguel and Keila Melendez Beltran, 46 and 46, respectively — were expected to survive.
According to the news outlet El Nuevo Dia, Melendez, who is related to the two wounded victims, was sought on a warrant for a 2022 drug sale to an undercover cop.

Police investigating the fatal shooting tracked him down in the La Trocha neighborhood in Vega Baja around noon on Monday, the outlet reported.
Cops have not identified the suspected shooter and it is unclear what sparked the beef between Melendez and the gunman that led to Mares' killing.
Mares was on the Caribbean island with Angy Nicole Arguello — his girlfriend of seven years, whom he had been planning on proposing to — to attend the popular rapper's performance, according to reports.

His stray-bullet death has left his family devastated.
'It's very hard,' his father, Hector Mares, told The Post Monday. 'We're still in pain. He was a beautiful person.'
The family launched a GoFundMe.org page is seeking donations to bring their loved one's body home to the Big Apple.

Armed terrorists killed while posing as World Central Kitchen staff in Gaza: IDF

A group of five armed terrorists were killed after they were caught posing as members of the World Central Kitchen humanitarian group in central Gaza, the Israeli military said Tuesday. Video from Deir al-Balah, one of the few cities largely spared by the 21-month Mideast war, shows a group of men in bright vests traveling in a vehicle marked with the WCK's emblem. 'The terrorists deliberately attached the [WCK] emblem and wore yellow vests in an attempt to disguise their activities and avoid being targeted, cynically exploiting the status and trust given to aid organizations,' the Israel Defense Force said in a statement. IDF The military said its unit that oversees the distribution of humanitarian aid contacted WCK about the group spotted near Deir al-Balah, with the nonprofit confirming that the vehicle was not affiliated with them. The IDF did not state if the men killed in the strike were specifically with Hamas or members of other terror groups or militias based in the Gaza Strip. WCK said it condemned anyone who would pose as one of their employees, warning that such actions endanger real aid workers operating in Gaza. 3 The World Central Kitchen confirmed that the vehicle was not affiliated with them. The war in Gaza has repeatedly put humanitarian aid workers at risk, with at least 10 WCK staffers killed last year after they were hit by Israeli airstrikes, including seven who were unloading 100 tons of food. Israeli officials have repeatedly apologized for the deaths, blaming Hamas for putting the aid workers at risk and accusing the group of routinely hiding behind the humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

American hiker missing in Spain is found dead

Spanish police said on Tuesday that rescuers found the body of a 27-year-old American hiker who went missing nearly a month ago. Authorities said a team of rescuers found Cole Henderson's body in Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, a Spanish national park in the mountain range along Spain's border with France. Henderson was reported missing on July 14, days after he was supposed to return to his home in the Netherlands, police said. The 27-year-old parked his car in the nearby town of Torla on July 9 before beginning his hike. Police said they found Henderson's body "in a difficult-to-access area on the north face of Monte Perdido, in the municipality of Bielsa, after a fall of about 200 meters." Henderson "showed no signs compatible with life," they added. Spanish authorities said they deployed several teams of search rescuers, canine handlers, search dogs, and drone pilots to look for Henderson.
