International Architects Atelier promotes new principals, owners

A family-owned Kansas City architecture firm is continuing the family legacy by promoting the founders' daughters to principals and folding them into its ownership group.
International Architects Atelier Inc. named Ava Amirahmadi and Kiana Raab as principals and owners, growing the Kansas City firm's ownership group to four. Amirahmadi already is based in Kansas City, and Raab is moving back, Raab said in an email.
Amirahmadi and Raab both left their hometown of Kansas City to build their careers in New York City.

Amirahmadi has more than a decade of architectural design experience, including working at global firms Snøhetta and Henning Larsen. In November 2022, she joined IAA full-time, where she first worked as an intern during her undergraduate years at Columbia University, according to her LinkedIn.
Raab's background is in museums and art, where she worked at Artsy, Gagosian Gallery, Sotheby's and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her experience navigating this sector will most likely play a role in expanding IAA's museum client portfolio. She started at IAA in April 2021 as the director of business development before being promoted to principal, according to her LinkedIn.

IAA has made a handful of other recent promotions. Andy Short was promoted to director of operations after more than two decades with the firm. Jordan Lake was promoted to senior associate after a decade at the firm. Sarah Tappe was named an associate, according to a release.
The firm was founded by couple Elizabeth and Majid Amirahmadi in 1988. IAA is headquartered in Kansas City at 912 Broadway Blvd., and it employs 13 people locally, 10 of whom are licensed architects.
IAA was one of the architects behind the Kansas City International Airport single terminal and garage, a project recognized with a 2024 Capstone Award. It also renovated Corinthian Hall, also known as the Kansas City Museum, which reopened in 2021 after being closed for four years.
The firm is continuing its work with the museum on two projects. It is revamping a conservatory and planetarium into the JewelHouse, a site that will be open to public and house programming centered on gender equity, leadership, empowerment, health and well-being. The second project is called Skyspace, an underground space where visitors will be able to view the sky and which will be designed specifically for music performances.
IAA is also working on renovations to the Missouri State Museum at the Missouri State Capitol building in Jefferson City.
IAA's annual revenue topped $3.5 million in 2023, a growth spurt of nearly 33% between 2021 and 2023 that landed it on the Kansas City Business Journal's Fastest-Growing Businesses List last year.

Build Trust Fast On LinkedIn Using These 5 Content Tactics

Build trust fast on LinkedIn using these 5 content tactics LinkedIn is frustrating you and it's easy to see why. You write something valuable, hit publish, and two days later it hasn't taken off, while someone else's office selfie gets 100 reactions. But giving up and saying LinkedIn doesn't work for you isn't the way forward. You're better than that. Instead, understand trust is built through strategic repetition that turns casual scrollers into loyal followers. Google's research on Zero Moments of Truth shows that it takes 11 touchpoints before someone trusts you enough to buy. Your LinkedIn content contributes to these crucial moments, but only if you package it right. The difference between posts that disappear and posts that convert lies in how you make your expertise stick in people's minds long after your post goes live. Make every post count Every LinkedIn post should be a gateway. End your posts with "How I can help you:" followed by three specific resources. Link to your detailed guide on the topic. Share the template that implements what you taught. Point to the case study proving it works. Send people down a rabbit hole of your expertise. One post becomes multiple touchpoints when you do this right. Someone reads your productivity tip, clicks through to your morning routine article, downloads your time-blocking template, and subscribes to your newsletter. They've now consumed four pieces of content from one LinkedIn post. They recognize your name, save your posts, share them with colleagues. You've accelerated trust-building without creating extra content. Watch your engagement multiply when readers comment on multiple pieces. Stock photos and polished headshots don't work on LinkedIn. Your dream clients want realness. Include photos of you at your messy desk at 6am. Share that whiteboard covered in your arty doodles. Show the coffee shop where you write your best content. Make your expertise tangible through visual proof. Personal images turn abstract advice into believable reality. Write about serving clients, and include a screenshot from a recent Zoom call. Posts with images get twice the engagement, but personal photos outperform generic graphics because they connect and help build recognition. Your face becomes familiar. Your workspace becomes memorable. Your brand becomes human. Trust grows when people feel like they know the person behind the expertise. Build trust by dropping the mask. You think you're being repetitive when you share something twice. But your ideal client missed both posts and still doesn't know what you stand for. Pick three beliefs that define your approach. Share them weekly from different angles. Tell new stories that promote the same principles. Use fresh examples for familiar concepts. LinkedIn shows each post to so few of your connections. Even devoted followers miss most of your content. Most people haven't heard that story you're tired of telling. Repeat your strongest beliefs constantly. Position yourself as the solution to your dream client's specific problem through relentless consistency. When someone finally needs what you offer, they'll immediately think of you. Your message has been drummed into their consciousness through repetition. Your content should work systematically to build relationships at scale. Add personality through LinkedIn observations like "Anyone else tired of AI-generated comments?" or "Remember when LinkedIn was just resumes?" Call out what you notice. Prove you're actively using the platform. Challenge readers directly within your posts. Ask "What would change if you implemented this today?" or "How much revenue are you leaving on the table?" Invite engagement with your ideas. Move people from passive consumption to active consideration of working with you. Build trust by making people feel seen. Ask the questions they know they need to answer. Every post should include one moment that makes someone stop scrolling and think about their situation differently, ideally in the hook. Include phrases in every post that move someone closer. Layer proof throughout your content to compound the trust. Share screenshots of client wins (with permission). Post voice notes from happy customers. Include metrics that matter to your audience. Third-party endorsements take you up a new level. Your LinkedIn presence becomes magnetic when you combine the trust tactics. Resource sections multiply your reach. Personal photos humanize your expertise. Repeated messages cement your positioning. Create an ecosystem where people can't forget you. Your consistency and commitment become another tick in the trust column. Followers become fans. Fans become superfans and, pretty soon, clients. Clients become advocates and build your business to the size you deserve. Transform your LinkedIn presence: 5 content upgrades Show up consistently with content engineered to stick in people's minds. Make your LinkedIn posts assets that work around the clock. Add resource sections, include real images, and repeat your message strategically. Your content becomes a trust-building system that turns followers into clients who already believe in your approach before they ever speak to you. Update your LinkedIn profile to attract ideal coaching clients.

Why The Least Desperate Candidates Get The Job (And How To Be One)

In a sea of applicants, calm confidence cuts through. You've heard the phrase, 'The job goes to the person who wants it most.' But in reality, employers don't just want eager—they want confident. And here's the twist: the candidates who don't come across as desperate are often the ones who get hired. Not because they don't care, but because they carry themselves with self-assurance, clarity, and calm. That's the kind of energy hiring managers trust. If you've ever felt like you wanted a job too much, you're not alone. The pressure of needing work, financially, emotionally, or otherwise, can show up in subtle (and not-so-subtle) ways during interviews. But with the right mindset and strategies, you can present yourself as the strong, qualified candidate you are without ever appearing needy. Here's how. Show Confidence Without Overdoing It Confidence doesn't mean arrogance. It's about self-trust and how you carry yourself. In fact, nine out of ten global executives surveyed by LinkedIn agree that soft skills are more important than ever. In other words, how you talk and connect with people in interviews can be just as important as how much technical knowledge you have. Employers notice when you speak with clarity, maintain steady body language, and answer questions directly. Confident candidates don't try to oversell themselves or dominate the conversation. They listen, respond thoughtfully, and present their experience with calm certainty. Want to project confidence? Practice talking about your strengths as facts, not opinions. For example, instead of saying 'I think I'm a great team player,' say 'My last manager consistently relied on me to lead collaborative projects because I've shown I can bring people together.' Confidence is in the delivery: calm, prepared, and focused. Highlight Your Fit, Not Your Need It's tempting to say things like, 'I really need this job' or 'I'd do anything for this opportunity.' But language like that can signal desperation, and it shifts the conversation away from your strengths and toward your situation. Remember: the hiring manager is looking to solve a business need, not yours. Instead of highlighting how much you want the job, focus on why you're a great match for the role and the team. Talk about the challenges they're facing that you're excited to help with. Tailor your responses to the company's goals and values. When you align yourself with their mission, it's easier for them to see you as a natural fit and not someone just hoping for a lifeline. Mention Other Options Without Sounding Disinterested One way to show you're in demand without coming across as cocky is to be transparent—carefully. If you're interviewing elsewhere or have a competing offer, it's okay to mention it. Done well, this can actually strengthen your position and demonstrate that others see your value, too. Here's how to frame it: 'I'm currently exploring a few roles, but this position really stands out because of [reason that's specific to them]. I'm genuinely excited about the potential fit here.' This approach tells the employer that you're making an intentional choice, not just grabbing at the first opportunity. Follow Up with Intention Following up isn't desperate—it's smart. But there's a difference between chasing and checking in. When you follow up, do it with purpose. After the interview, send a thoughtful thank-you note. A week later, if you haven't heard back, send a short message reaffirming your interest and asking for an update. You can also use your follow-ups to share helpful information, such as an article you mentioned during your interview or a quick update about something relevant you've worked on. The goal is to stay top of mind without applying pressure. Each message should reflect calm interest, not urgency. Stay Calm and Patient Throughout the Process Hiring takes time, and delays don't always mean bad news. Maybe they're finalizing budgets, getting approvals, or waiting on internal alignment. If you panic every time the timeline stretches, you'll drain your energy, and it might show in your interactions. The best thing you can do? Keep your momentum going. Keep applying, keep networking, and keep interviewing. Knowing you have other irons in the fire helps you stay emotionally steady and less attached to any single outcome. It also ensures you don't lose valuable time waiting for one company to make a decision. The candidates who get hired aren't always the ones who try the hardest to please. They're often the ones who know their value and communicate it with clarity and calm. Employers want to hire people who are capable, reliable, and confident—people who can hit the ground running without needing to be rescued. That's why your mindset matters as much as your resume. Remind yourself that job searches are two-way streets. You're not just hoping someone picks you. You're evaluating whether this opportunity fits who you are and where you're going. When you approach each interview with that balance, you shift from hoping to win approval to showing what you truly bring to the table. Stay grounded. Stay intentional. And remember: your next opportunity is not just about luck—it's about showing up as someone who's ready, not needy. You've got this!
