Panaji:
The Goa State Horticultural Corporation Ltd (GSHCL) is set to upgrade its Panaji and Tonca outlets into minimart-style stores. The revamped stores will feature separate entry and exit points to ensure better crowd management and improved store flow.
Replacing the traditional loose-sale format, each of the greens will now be packaged, with each item carrying a bar code label to enable faster and more accurate billing.
According to GSHCL managing director Chandrahas Desai, the implementation of the new system is scheduled to begin after monsoon this year. 'While vegetables at these outlets will continue to be sold at subsidised rates, the modernised setup is expected to attract more urban consumers seeking both affordability and convenience,' Desai told

.
To support this upgrade, two additional point-of-sale machines will be installed at each outlet. 'This is expected to cut down waiting times and ensure quicker checkouts, especially during peak hours,' Desai said.
The Panaji outlet, located within the Panaji municipal market complex, records an average footfall of 250 customers per day, while the Tonca outlet, situated at the entrance of the GSHCL head office, serves about 450 daily visitors.

'The Tonca outlet will undergo structural changes to accommodate this system. It will be designed in an L-shape,' Desai said. 'Both locations already have CCTV surveillance systems, ensuring a secure shopping environment.'
This infrastructural revamp coincides with the corporation's larger success story in local agricultural support. Under its 'Promotion of Vegetables with Assured Market' scheme, GSHCL recorded growth in farmer engagement and produce procurement over the past six years.
Vegetable purchases surged from 965.6 metric tonnes in 2019-20 to 1,662.4 metric tonnes in 2024-25, reflecting a 72% increase.
Additionally, farmer remuneration under the scheme also saw a jump from Rs 414.8 lakh in 2019-20 to Rs 684.2 lakh in 2024-25. The programme expanded its network from 1,081 farmers to 1,273, bringing 192 new farmers into its fold since 2019.

"We must now deliver on promises of development and ensure Delhi gets what it rightfully deserves": Union Minister Hardeep Puri

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday hailed the 11 years of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and called for action on the development and growth of Delhi . He further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , India's Gross Domestic Product had increased from two trillion dollars to four trillion dollars. "With PM Modi's 11 years of governance and the support of local bodies, we have no excuses left. We must now deliver on the promises of development and ensure Delhi gets what it rightfully deserves. When PM Modi took charge in 2014, India's GDP was 2 trillion dollars. Today, it has reached 4 trillion dollars," Puri said, speaking to the media. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Chuck Norris: If You're Over 60, Avoid These 3 Foods Like The Plague Roundhouse Provisions Learn More He further stated that the results of the triple-engine government could be seen at the Centre, Delhi and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi . Puri also stated that he was a witness to Delhi's evolution after partition, further stating that after successive waves of migration, the population in the city had finally crossed two crores. Live Events "I've seen Delhi evolve since just after partition, when the city's population was around 11-12 lakh. After successive waves of migration, the population has now crossed over 2 crore. You can see the results of the triple-engine government we now have--at the Centre, in Delhi, and in the MCD ," he added. Earlier on June 14, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, said that India is firmly on track to become the world's third-largest economy by 2029, crediting 11 years of Narendra Modi's "decisive and corruption-free governance" for triggering what he described as an "unstoppable surge" in national development. Addressing a press conference in Dibrugadh to mark the NDA government's 11th anniversary, the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister said that India has emerged from an era of "policy paralysis and dynastic politics" and is now driven by welfare-led growth, youth-powered innovation, and massive infrastructure expansion. "In just one decade, over 25 crore Indians have risen above poverty. That's more than the population of most European countries," Sonowal said. "This is the Modi guarantee -- delivery with speed, scale and honesty." Highlighting the economic strides under the Modi government, Sarbananda Sonowal said India's rise to the fourth-largest global economy is just the beginning. "By 2029, India will be the third-largest economy. We're building the foundation for a Viksit Bharat -- a developed, self-reliant India." Sonowal cited the rise of India's startup ecosystem -- from 30,000 in 2014 to over 1 lakh today -- as evidence of the country's changing mindset. "This is a new India, led by young dreamers and doers. Over 1.7 crore youth are now part of this vibrant startup movement."

SBI reduces interest rates by up to 50 bps following RBI's rate cut

The country's biggest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has reduced its lending rate by 50 basis points following the Reserve Bank's policy rate cut, making loans cheaper for both existing and new borrowers. With the latest round of reduction, the Repo Linked Lending Rate (RLLR) of SBI would come down by 50 basis points to 7.75 per cent. It has also reduced the External Benchmark Based Lending Rate (EBLR) by similar basis points to 8.15 per cent from 8.65 per cent earlier. The revised rates come into effect from June 15, 2025, according to updated rate information on SBI's website. The rate reduction is in response to the June 6 RBI jumbo rate cut by 50 basis points to support growth, which hit a four-year low of 6.5 per cent in FY25. The RBI's six-member monetary policy committee, headed by Governor Sanjay Malhotra and consisting of three external members, voted five to one to lower the benchmark repurchase or repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.5 per cent. It also cut the cash reserve ratio by 100 basis points to 3 per cent, adding Rs 2.5 lakh crore to already surplus liquidity in the banking system by December this year. Following the RBI action, most of the banks have slashed lending rate remaining will follow suit soon. Besides, SBI also cut deposit rates by 25 basis points across all maturities for fixed deposits up to Rs 3 crore. The new term deposit rates are effective from June 15. With the revision, for fixed deposits, the interest rate on 1-2 year term deposits will be lower by 25 basis points to 6.50 per cent, and deposits having two years to less than 3 years maturity will attract 6.45 per cent as against 6.70 per cent. In case of fixed deposits with maturity 3-5 years, interest rate has been reduced by 25 basis points to 6.30 per cent, while for 5-10 years by 25 basis points to 6.05 per cent. The interest rate of a specific tenor scheme of '444 days' (Amrit Vrishti) has also been revised from 6.85 per cent to 6.60 per cent, effective from June 15, 2025. Senior citizens are offered an additional 50 bps, while super senior citizens are eligible for an additional 60 basis points over the card rate.
