MCMC probes online sale of uncertified communication devices
Authorities seized 3,837 units of various devices, including wireless gaming consoles, remote controls, smart devices, and tablets, estimated at RM500,000. These items were handed to MCMC for technical analysis.
'These devices are believed to have been marketed without valid technical certification from MCMC,' the commission stated.
The case falls under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000. Penalties include fines up to RM300,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both.
MCMC reiterated its commitment to enforcing regulations to protect consumers and ensure market integrity. The public is urged to report any related activities through MCMC's official complaint channels or the police. - Bernama

BALIK PULAU: A man who broke into a house in Batu Maung was caught after he returned to the scene to retrieve items he had left behind. The matter came to light in a viral video posted on the Facebook account "Amigos Media Viral" this afternoon. In a statement today, the AGC said the report was received on August 3 at its Sabah branch and the following day at its headquarters in Putrajaya. It said that the review process involves a thorough examination of the legal and factual aspects to ensure that any decision is made in accordance with the law and upholds the principles of justice. The AGC added that a decision on the case would be announced upon completion of the review of the preliminary investigation report. 'The department appreciates the cooperation of all parties and urges the public to refrain from making speculative statements that could affect the investigation process and the course of justice,' the statement said. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17. She had been taken to the hospital for treatment after being found unconscious in a drain near the hostel of a religious school in Papar, Sabah, at 4 am on July 16. Meanwhile, more than 300 people gathered at Lintasan Deasoka on Gaya Street in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday night to demand justice for Zara Qairina. #NSTviral: Content creator apologises for PR stunt of giving bones to homeless man
KUALA LUMPUR: A content creator who came under fire after releasing a video showing him and two friends giving leftover KFC bones to a homeless man as a meal has apologised for what he claims to be a stunt. The offending video, which has since been taken down, showed the trio eating KFC chicken and then placing the bones into another meal before giving it to the homeless man. "This chicken bone is such a waste. We should not waste food. We decided to 'donate' this chicken bone to those in need. So today, we want to do something kind," said one of them. They later approached a homeless man and offered him the meal. The homeless man initially expressed his gratitude by saying that he only eats a little, but was shocked when he opened the package to find that there are chicken bones. Nevertheless, the man was grateful. The video was posted on Instagram reels last night and went viral. User bobo_nuoya tagged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), suggesting that their act can be investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and can lead to a maximum two years' jail or a fine or both. Thread user cken_daily.psd reposted the video while tagging MCMC and the police, saying "I hope MCMC and the police will launch an investigation into them!" However, the content creator today posted a apology video, explaining that the video was done in collaboration with the homeless man and that they had provided him with an actual meal later. "Our original intention was to help people in society. Please give us a better chance to give back to the community. We will do more good deeds later to help the homeless. So, I'm really sorry everyone," he said. Despite the clarification and apology, the video was not received well by netizens and other content creators.
