Covington Eagles to host fundraiser for Hurricane Helene relief

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles will hold a fundraising event this weekend for people affected by Hurricane Helene.
The event will benefit Western North Carolina disaster relief. It will be held in partnership with Spokes of Hope, a non-profit that is rebuilding areas affected like Chimney Rock and Bat Cave, one brick and one beam at a time.
It will start on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m. at the Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles, 715 E. Broadway St. in Covington. Attendees are asked to enter through the east side of the building.
Highlights of the event will include live and silent auctions, a meat raffle, a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle. Food will be available at Bee's Boba, Timeless Tacos and Potato Tornado trucks.
Some of the featured items at the auctions will include art made by Bob Graham and Josh Kerr. These items were made from debris that washed up behind their shop after the hurricane.

Child flown to hospital following Greene Co. crash

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A juvenile was flown to the hospital after a crash in Greene County Thursday evening. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Xenia Post is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred around 7 p.m. in the 4200 block of Hussey Road. Investigation revealed a 2021 Ford Escape was traveling eastbound when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a fence and hit a child in the front yard. OSP dispatchers confirmed one child was flown to Dayton Children's with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Xenia Post at this time. DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Those looking to get rid of large appliances can recycle them during an event this weekend. The Montgomery County Environmental Services is hosting an Appliance Amnesty weekend. Unwanted appliances will be taken for free with proof of residency at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Transfer and Recycling Facility. WPAFB working to combat forever chemicals, water contamination Those interested can drop off appliances at the facility at 1001 Encrete Lane in Moraine on June 5-6 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and June 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Refrigerators, air conditions, water heaters and stoves will all be accepted for free with proof of residency.
