Rail passengers to face disruption within days as major engineering works take place
The disruption will affect services between June 9 and June 20
A Transport for Wales Class 197 train in Cardiff Central
Major engineering work will be taking place between Cardiff Central and Newport starting next week, Transport for Wales has said. Between Monday, June 9, and Friday, June 13, trains will still run, but will use the slower relief set of tracks on this part of the route.
As a result, most main line south Wales train services will be amended, with services having extended journey times.
Services between Cardiff and Newport will also be busier than usual as the number of services running between Cardiff and Newport will be reduced.
Due to the Severn Tunnel also being closed from June 9 to 20, Great Western Railway will only be running an hourly London service via Gloucester on this section of the line. For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation, sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here
Customers are advised to check their journey plans before they travel.
Southbound services from Manchester Piccadilly, Holyhead, Chester, Crewe, Hereford and Shrewsbury to Cardiff Central will have extended journey times between Cwmbran and Cardiff Central.

Northbound services from Cardiff to these destinations will depart Cardiff Central earlier, allowing them to run from their usual departure times from Newport onwards.
The 5.43am Swansea to Manchester Piccadilly will not call at Craven Arms (8.25am) and Church Stretton (8.34am).
Ebbw Vale / Maesteg / Cheltenham
Ebbw Vale to Cardiff Central services will be diverted and call additionally at Newport with extended journey times.
Trains from Cardiff to Ebbw Vale will depart Cardiff Central earlier than usual.
Most Ebbw Vale services will not extend to Maesteg except for some late-night services.
West Wales
Many services to and from West Wales (Swansea, Carmarthen, Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock and Fishguard Harbour) will be affected, with services being retimed, journey times extended, some services not running and through services to and from Swansea, Cardiff and Manchester in particular being affected.
Visit Transport for Wales' service amendments webpage for more details on the works.

Experts urge tourists check their passport or risk losing travel

Experts urge tourists check their passport or risk losing travel Experts have issued a warning to all Brits who are planning to travel abroad in the coming weeks and months, as there are a number of lesser-known travel rules that have been put in place since Brexit Experts are calling on tourists to check their passport's issue date before travelling in certain areas (Image: clubfoto via Getty Images) Those planning to travel in the coming weeks and months are being urged to check their passports due to little-known travel rules that came into effect after Brexit. It comes after experts stressed on people to check their passport's expiry date before travelling. ‌ All UK residents require a valid passport for international travel. Experts have also previously warned UK tourists that not having their phones charged while travelling could lead to them being rejected at airports due to a little known rule. ‌ You may apply for a British passport if you hold British citizenship, British overseas territories citizenship, British overseas citizenship, are a British subject, a British national (overseas), or a British protected person. People can get their passport in as less as one day, if they are content with paying a premium price. ‌ To obtain a new or replacement document, you must lodge an application with HM Passport Office, with current average processing times standing at three weeks or fewer. For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation, sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here As the final weeks of the summer holidays approach, experts at are urging travellers to examine their passports. Alvaro Iturmendi remarked: "Nothing ruins the end-of-summer buzz faster than being turned away at the airport because your passport is not valid. Article continues below "It is easier to get caught out than you might think. Our research found that less than half (43%) holidaygoers, know that if you are heading to the EU, your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before your departure date." As Mr Iturmendi outlined, all UK passport holders journeying to the Schengen zone must guarantee their passport's "date of issue" occurs within 10 years of their arrival date, reports Belfast Live. Furthermore, the passport's "expiry date" must be at least three months beyond their intended departure from the Schengen zone, according to the Liverpool Echo. ‌ Should your passport not satisfy entry criteria, you'll almost certainly be refused boarding at your departure airport. Therefore, it's absolutely worthwhile verifying yours immediately. Should you need a replacement passport urgently, it might cost you up to £222. ‌ The present estimated processing time stands at a maximum of three weeks, although government representatives caution it may occasionally extend longer "if we need more information, or we need to interview you". Individuals affected by this will receive notification within the three-week timeframe. From April 10, a standard adult passport, for those aged 16 and over, costs £94.50 when applying online, or £107 when applying using the paper form. Article continues below
