Gridiron to Gala: Cowboys $80 million man shows up big for worthiest of causes
Gold gowns, sharp suits, and the kind of electricity that only happens when purpose meets celebration. The Odighizuwa Foundation's inaugural gala on Saturday night in Frisco, TX wasn't just another fancy event—it was a glimpse at what's possible when athletes pour into something bigger than themselves. And the foundation's founder himself, Osa Odighizuwa? His profession might be football, but his purpose runs deeper.
At its core, the Odighizuwa Foundation exists to show up for single-parent families — providing resources, creating access, uplifting through education, and offering the kind of support that empowers both single parents and their children to thrive.
Since its establishment, the organization has launched initiatives to assist with household needs, provide support groups and educational tools to parents, and offer mentorship and scholarships to children. They've hosted community events, helped secure essentials like Chromebooks and internet access, and remained rooted in the belief that resources and support can literally change lives.
Odighizuwa, who called the Foundation's mission 'deeply personal,' has become the face of the organization as its most high-profile founder. But on Saturday night, he made space to amplify the voices of community leaders whose stories illustrated the why behind the work.
Debra Nixon-Bowles, Founder & CEO of Women Called Moses, gave a stirring testimony on how supporting single-parent families isn't just about mentorship and meals. It's about breaking cycles that often lead to homelessness, psychological distress, school dropouts, and incarceration.
Keynote speaker Vita Flores, a financial literacy educator, spoke candidly about her own journey — how a desire to help her mother escape poverty led her down a path that ended with a federal prison sentence. Her story wasn't just powerfu; it was proof that transformation is possible with the right kind of support.
Throughout the night, Odighizuwa moved through the room with gratitude and pride, shaking hands, giving hugs, and thanking guests who believe in the vision.
The guest list included several Dallas Cowboys notables, including tight ends coach Lunda Wells and quarterback Dak Prescott who, true to form, came through in the clutch during the live auction. When the bidding on one package needed a little extra push, a quiet conversation between Prescott and Odighizuwa led to a quick remix of the offer. The result? The Cowboys Experience item more than doubled in value.
'Dak was just helping me to get a little bit more,' Odighizuwa said. 'We were talking about the Cowboys package. It was a little bit modest. He said, 'You know we could double what we got going on and get a little bit more money.' He whispered that in my ear, and I relayed it to the auctioneer.'
That display of teamwork happened during dinner, but other Cowboys stepped up in different ways to support the cause. Micah Parsons shared, via social media, that he made a donation to the Odighizuwa Foundation, and Odighizuwa commented that several teammates purchased tickets although they were unable to attend.
Osa Odighizuwa has the respect of his peers and the heart of a man committed to more than stats and sacks. Saturday night wasn't just a win for his foundation. It was a statement.
Still, the work continues. The Odighizuwa Foundation is still working toward its annual fundraising goals and preparing for future events and initiatives.

Dallas Cowboys Coach Shares Inspiring Message for Micah Parsons

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. What started out as a joke for Micah Parsons turned out to be a heartfelt viral moment for the Dallas Cowboys star and his new head coach. Recently, there's been a boom in NFL players taking a shot at a viral TikTok trend, which is as simple as calling your friends and simply telling them goodnight. While it sounds like nothing worthy of a viral video, the reactions from players on the other end of the line typically generate a funny moment since it's not all that common for pro football players to call their teammates just to say one thing and wrap up the call. Micah Parsons went through a round of calls with several Cowboys teammates, including Tyler Smith, Trevon Diggs, Osa Odighizuwa, and KaVontae Turpin. Parsons took it a step further and reached out to his head coach, Brian Schottenheimer. The call turned into a positive moment for Parsons and Schottenheimer, who are entering their first season working together in the NFL. Micah Parsons hopped on the trend, calling his teammates to tell them Good Night 💤 He called Tyler Smith, Trevon Diggs, Osa Odighizuwa, KaVontae Turpin, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer. 🎥 _micahparsons11 on TikTok — SleeperCowboys (@SleeperCowboys) June 8, 2025 "I just wanted to say goodnight," Parsons told his head coach. "Okay, I love that, bro. What's going on, you all good?" a slightly concerned Schottenheimer fired back. Once assured everything was great, the head coach let off his message, which clearly sat right with Parsons. "I know this is weird for everybody, man, but look, you're handling everything the right way, bro," the head coach said. "This thing's going to get worked out. Again, I'm thrilled to see where we take this thing, man. We're building something special and you're going to be a huge part of it, bro." ARLINGTON, TX - DECEMBER 22: Micah Parsons #11 of the Dallas Cowboys walks towards the locker room against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during an NFL football game at AT&T Stadium on December 22, 2024 in Arlington, Texas. Micah Parsons shares what Cowboys need to do to bounce back in 2025. MoreCurrently, Parsons' situation has plenty of eyes on it as the star pass rusher is in search of a new contract. The 26-year-old is looking to land a big deal to become one of the top-paid players on the defensive side of the ball, rightfully so. Over the past four seasons, Parsons has appeared in 63 games for the Cowboys. He's generated 256 tackles (63 for a loss) and 52.5 sacks. Despite appearing in just 11 games last year, Parsons still got to the quarterback 12 times, coming just two sacks shy of tying his career-high, which was achieved in 18 games. Right now, Parsons and the Cowboys are still working out his contract situation, leading many to speculate whether Parsons will be a holdout or not. This upcoming week, the Cowboys will hold mandatory minicamp. While all signs point to Parsons showing up and being a part of the action, anything can happen. The Cowboys can only hope that Parsons remains patient as he desires a new deal. Meanwhile, the Cowboys can sleep good at night knowing that Parsons' bond with his head coach is tight, despite the little bit of drama going on.

Former Wisconsin Badger receives middling grade in PFF's 2025 NFL tight end ranking

Former Wisconsin Badger receives middling grade in PFF's 2025 NFL tight end ranking Former Wisconsin Badger and current Dallas Cowboy Jake Ferguson landed at No. 17 in ProFootballFocus' recent list of the NFL's top tight ends entering 2025. Ferguson, whose 145 career receptions rank second all-time among Badger tight ends, earned a Pro Bowl appearance in 2023. In three seasons with Dallas, Ferguson has reeled in 149 receptions for 1,429 yards and seven touchdowns. Sandwiched between New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry (No. 16) and Green Bay Packers pass-catcher Tucker Craft (No. 18), Ferguson dropped five spots from last year's preseason ranking. The Rapid City, Wisconsin, native did miss three games in 2024, starting in all 14 of his appearances. In those 14 contests, the Wisconsin product snagged 59 receptions for 494 yards as Dallas' No. 2 passing option behind superstar CeeDee Lamb. That output followed a career-best 71-reception, 761-yard, five-touchdown performance in 2023, the year he made the Pro Bowl. While Ferguson's productivity certainly declined, he remains a staple asset in the Cowboys' offensive system. Here's PFF's take: "Ferguson looked like a tight end on the cusp of cracking the top 10 a year ago before the Cowboys' struggles and injuries caused the decline in production and grading for the third-year Wisconsin Badger. While Ferguson should enjoy a bounce-back 2025 campaign, his 56.6 PFF receiving grade and four fumbles in 2024 are worrisome for his outlook." With the Badgers, Ferguson snared a pass in every game he suited up in and set the school record for most consecutive games with a reception with 47. His 1,618 career receiving yards also land at No. 3 all-time among tight ends to play for Wisconsin. Ferguson will begin his search for a bounce-back season on Sept. 4 when the Cowboys open their season against the Philadelphia Eagles. 3 former Cowboys with troubled pasts arrested within 72 hours of each other

3 former Cowboys with troubled pasts arrested within 72 hours of each other The Dallas Cowboys have never been strangers with the red flag industry. Ever since their dominance of the 1990s, they've served as the poster franchise for taking risks on players with questionable pasts. Some times it works out, other times it doesn't, but since Jerry Jones has been owner of the club, they're well known to give second and third chances. Three of the most recent second-chance players all found themselves in booking photos over a 72-hour period. On Thursday, it was reported that Greg Hardy, signed in 2015 after a domestic violence arrest, had been arrested on Wednesday afternoon or alleging assaulting a family member. In the early hours of Saturday, Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Also in the early hours of Saturday, recent second-round pick Kelvin Joseph was arrested after being involved in a fatal car crash. While some have tried to paint the NFL in a bad light when it comes to arrests, the reality is they have a lower arrest rate (2.5 k per 100,000) than the general public (4k per 100,000) does. It's only that every arrest of an NFL player makes headlines. And while it may seem like the Cowboys have a greater share of NFL arrests than other clubs, that's more than likely because their reputation precedes them. Hardy, most famously, signed a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the Cowboys after his 2014 arrest led to his release from the Carolina Panthers. He did not get along well, consistently missing meetings and clashing with the coaching staff and fellow players. No team signed him after that and he eventually turned to being an MMA fighter to try and capitalize on his athletic nature. His career lasted from 2018 through 2022, when after losing three straight matches was released from the UFC. Jones signed with Dallas in 2008, after being suspended by the league for 2007 after two seasons in Tennessee. He played just nine games before being suspended, as he was involved in a fight with the bodyguard Dallas assigned to babysit the player. After sitting out 2009, he rejuvenated his career in Cincinnati, playing eight seasons for the Bengals, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2015 and a Pro Bowl the following year. Jones, 41, was booked just before 2 a.m. Saturday into Kenton County jail, according to the court log. He was arrested by the Covington Police Department and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, and assault of a police officer or a probation officer. Jones posted a $10,000 bond and was released around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Other details regarding the arrest were not immediately made available. Saturday's arrest in Covington, which is directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, marks at least the fourth time since 2021 that Jones has been arrested. He has now been booked on a public intoxication charge three years in a row. Joseph, part of the Cowboys' 2021 class that brought them Micah Parsons and Osa Odighizuwa, was traded away before 2023. he had been arrested for his participation in a fight outside a bar that led to a murder. He was drafted following being removed from the LSU team and having to transfer to Kentucky a year before entering the draft.
