Grey Cup tour to make 40 stops across Manitoba from May to October
The Grey Cup tour kicks off May 4 at the WPS Half Marathon in Winnipeg and will then go on to make 40 stops across the province through to the end of October.
Winnipeg is hosting the 112th Grey Cup on Nov. 16 at Princess Auto Stadium. It will be the first time since 2015 the championship game has been held in the city, and fifth time overall (1991, 1998, 2006, 2015, 2025).
The tour, sponsored by Access Credit Union and the Winnipeg Football Club, will feature games, interactive challenges and giveaways at each stop, a news release from the club said.
"You're going to have the MacDon [Industries Ltd.] beer pong for the adults, and for the kids, we'll figure out a different name for that," said Wade Miller, Bombers president and CEO.
There will be a football toss and cornhole games, a recycling challenge and chances to win tickets to the Grey Cup game, he said.
"Our team is so excited to get out through the province and get the Grey Cup Festival kicked off," Miller said.
The full schedule of tour stops will be available soon on the 2025 Grey Cup Festival website and updated throughout the season.
The tour will visit towns, cities and rural communities, the release said.
The Manitoba government announced on Thursday that it is providing $5.5 million to help the Bombers host the game and related events.
"Events like the Grey Cup ignite excitement for sport and strengthen our community's pride in our team," said Nellie Kennedy, Manitoba minister of sport, culture, heritage and tourism.

Elks defeat Argos 28-20 for second straight win
EDMONTON – Steven Dunbar Jr.'s early fourth-quarter touchdown catch proved to be the difference as the Edmonton Elks emerged with a 28-20 victory over the Toronto Argonauts in a game between two teams clinging on to playoff hopes on Friday. The Elks (3-6) have now won two games in a row. The Argos (2-8) have lost three straight. The teams traded field goals on their first possessions, with Toronto kicker Lirim Hajrullahu converting a 14-yard attempt after the Argos were set up by a 56-yard catch by Dave Ungerer, and Edmonton's Vincent Blanchard making a 30-yard boot through the uprights. Blanchard added a 20-yard field goal late in the opening quarter. Hajrullahu responded with a 45-yard field goal to start the second. Toronto's defence stepped up with a big play five minutes into the second as Wynton McManis intercepted Elks quarterback Cody Fajardo at the Edmonton 37. However, the Argos were held to a 20-yard field goal. Edmonton finally got the game's first major with just over a minute to play in the first half as running back Justin Rankin scampered in from two yards out. Toronto added a punt single before halftime. The Argos surged ahead midway through the third quarter as quarterback Nick Arbuckle floated a nine-yard touchdown pass to Jake Herslow. The Elks clawed back to within a point behind a 52-yard Blanchard field goal to make it 17-16 with four minutes remaining in the third. The Elks' defence came up big late in the third, forcing an Arbuckle fumble at the Edmonton 17, that was recovered by Robbie Smith. Edmonton marched all the way down the field, culminating in a four-yard TD pass deep into the end zone from Fajardo to Dunbar. They added a single off the ensuing kickoff to lead 24-17. Thousands of wildfire evacuees head home as Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation continues phased return
A Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation councillor says things are going smoothly as thousands return to the northern Manitoba First Nation, nearly two weeks after it was evacuated because of wildfires. The First Nation, nearly 700 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, announced Wednesday on social media its leadership had approved a phased repatriation, with private vehicles allowed to return immediately and plans to start busing people back to the community on Friday. Coun. Kim Linklater said evacuees staying in Thompson had already left that city, and the First Nation was working to get evacuees in Winnipeg back home on Friday. "There'll be about seven buses pulling in this evening," Linklater said. The community is also "opening our doors" for Priority 1 residents — those considered most at risk due to health concerns — who are ready to come back, said Linklater. Buses are expected to begin transporting evacuees from Portage la Prairie on Saturday. The First Nation issued a mandatory evacuation order on Aug. 2. More than 3,000 residents were told they had to leave amid poor air quality, with a wildfire threatening road access to the community. Linklater said about 2,000 people should've been able to return as of Friday. But about 600 evacuees flown out to Niagara Falls, Ont., may have to wait longer to return home. Linklater said there's a lack of available charter flights because of demand from other communities and from firefighters. "We're going to start [charters] probably next week, because there's no flights available," she said. "We'll just have to wait, I guess, when they have flights for us, and we're going to start bringing our people back."
