Caernarfon XL bully owner Ian Parry jailed after boy attacked
Caio was on his way to a birthday party at the time of the attack and suffered several injuries to his face and body as well as losing his thumb.Caernarfon Crown Court heard on Thursday that the dog was "completely focused" on Caio, despite the efforts of his grandmother and others on the street to protect him during the attack.In an attempt to stop it, Parry stabbed the dog twice with a knife before the XL bully - which he had bought after seeing an advert on Facebook in November 2023 - let go of the boy.
Although the dog survived the stabbing, it was later shot dead.Judge Nicola Saffman said the animal was not wearing a collar, which made it more difficult to stop the attack.Caio's mother, Ffion Williams, told the court her son was a "happy" and "adventurous" child before the incident but the attack has had a terrible effect on him and left him "worried he was going to die".She added Caio "suffered in so many ways" and was now afraid to pass the house where the dog had come from."I know any dog can turn, but not all dogs have the power of these XL bullies," she added.In a statement read in court, Caio said his hand "still hurt", that he continued to have nightmares about the incident and that he had several scars on his body.
Parry was described in the hearing as an "active man" who had tried to turn his back on crime, having not appeared in front of the court since 2016.He will spend half of his 26-month sentence in custody, and the rest on licence and was also banned from keeping a dog indefinitely.

Gwent Police were called to Commercial Road at about 15:20 BST on Friday after a group of men were allegedly seen fighting which lead to four men being taken to hospital. The men, aged 25, 28, 33, 40, 42, and 52, appeared at separate hearings at Newport Magistrates' Court on Monday and were remanded in custody. A 17-year-old, who is also from Newport and has been arrested in connection with the incident, has been released on police bail and is due to appear before magistrates at a later date. At the first hearing, the court was told that Mehmet Askoy, 52, Murat Askoy, 28, and Burak Askoy, 25, used or threatened unlawful violence with others present, causing those who were present to fear for their safety. CCTV footage of the alleged incident was shown in court. District Judge Sophie Toms told Mehmet Askoy: "The charge you are facing is a very serious matter. The incident happened in daytime with large-scale violent outbreaks. "I'm told it came as a result of a dispute between two families," she added, describing the experience as "frightening" for those who witnessed it. With the aid of an interpreter, the defendants confirmed their names, ages, and addresses. Police officers were present during the hearing. The judge said the case was too serious and complex to be dealt with in the magistrates' court and would be sent to the crown court. Murat and Burak Askoy were remanded in custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on 1 September. An application for bail by Mehmet Askoy was refused. At a second hearing, Savas Sayak, 33, Yagmur Sayak, 42, and Firat Sayak, 45, were also told that the case was too serious to be dealt with at the magistrates' court. Bail applications for Savas Sayak and Yagmur Sayak were refused and Firat Sayak's lawyer indicated that a bail application would be made at the crown court hearing on 1 September. An eighth man, a 40-year-old from Newport, has also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and is currently in police custody.

Bedale woman charged after dog bites man and officer
A woman has been charged with being in control of a dog that was dangerously out of control after a police officer and another person were Yorkshire Police said a man in his 60s was attacked in Bedale Market Place at about 22:50 BST on Friday, before a female PC was also injured by the animal near to the town's fire force said the Alsatian-type dog was later traced to Queen Annes Drive, off Firby Road, where it was shot "due to serious public safety concerns".A police spokesperson said a 64-year-old woman from Bedale had been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear before York Magistrates' Court on 20 August. Emergency personnel raced a man to hospital after he was found injured in a flat in Aberdeen. A man is in critical condition and fighting for his life after being found injured in a flat in Aberdeen. Emergency crews rushed to Skene Street in the Granite City at around 3pm on Sunday, August 3, after receiving reports that a man had been found injured. The man was raced to hospital in the city where his condition has been described as critical. Police enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 3.10pm on Sunday, August 3, 2025, police received a report a man had been found injured in Skene Street, Aberdeen. ' Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital where medical staff describe his condition as critical. 'Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.' Earlier today, in a separate incident, we reported that police are continuing to hunt the machete thugs caught brawling in an Aberdeen park in an incident which saw a man rushed to hospital and an XL Bully dog die. The force's search for the attackers is ongoing after they launched an attempted murder probe into the incident on Sunday, July 27 at around 8:30pm at Eric Hendrie Park on Deveron Road. The attack was captured on video. It shows two men fighting in the park in front of a silver car, before a masked knifeman comes into view wielding a huge blade above his head and chopping down at one of them. The masked man is rushed by another man with the XL Bully on a leash. The dog is hacked at with the machete after it attack ed the man to the ground. Several men appear and begin fighting each other as the masked man gets to his feet and runs away from the dog. The car suddenly begins to move and appears to run over one of the men as it makes its way towards the thug with the knife. A second clip shows at least 12 men running around the park. The black and white XL Bully gives chase and barks as it follows the vehicle. A man holding a blade approaches the car and appears to get inside just as it exits the park.
