PeterLabs shares jump 43pct to fresh high amid director misconduct probe
The counter opened lower at 37 sen, down 3.90 per cent from Wednesday's close of 38.5 sen, before rebounding sharply to a morning high of 55 sen, up nearly 43 per cent. As at press time, 4.42 million shares had changed hands.
Yesterday, PeterLabs announced that the company and its subsidiary Thye On Tong Trading Sdn Bhd had initiated legal proceedings against its suspended executive director Datuk Loh Saw Foong and another director Datin Lin Ching Yein.
This follows earlier disclosures made on May 13 and May 26, 2025, regarding Loh's suspension. The group is seeking various declaratory reliefs and damages as part of the legal action.
PeterLabs' share price rally began on April 8, when the stock was trading at 18.5 sen. At its current price, the stock has gained 132.43 per cent in just over seven weeks.
On April 21, the stock jumped to 29.5 sen, with trading volume spiking to 22.87 million shares, the highest in at least two years.
This followed a raid by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on PeterLabs' offices as part of an investigation into alleged misconduct involving Loh and Lin.
PeterLabs logged its previous all-time high of 37 sen per share on April 5, 2019.
The group, which manufactures and distributes animal health and nutrition products, has yet to detail the potential operational impact of the legal developments.
For the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2024, PeterLabs' net profit fell 9.5 per cent to RM667,000 from RM737,000 a year earlier, on higher administrative and distribution costs.
The group said the decline was largely due to lower operating profit, which dropped 59.7 per cent year-on-year to RM631,000, despite relatively stable revenue.
Revenue for the quarter slipped 2.0 per cent to RM45.37 million from RM46.29 million previously, mainly due to weaker sales from the trading segment, which recorded a pre-tax loss of RM162,000.
For the full financial year, PeterLabs posted a net profit of RM2.84 million, down 17.5 per cent from RM3.45 million in 2023, while revenue dropped 5.5 per cent to RM176.03 million from RM186.21 million.
The group has changed its financial year end from Dec 31 to June 30, with the next reporting period covering 18 months from Jan 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government has set aside nearly RM600,000 to assist e-hailing workers in opening Employees Provident Fund (EPF) accounts. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor revealed that 11,109 applications have been received from e-hailing workers for the contributions. 'This initiative aims to support those e-hailing workers who have yet to open an EPF account,' he said during his speech at the Sabah Moto Day 8.0 launch at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Hajiji also praised the Sabah Moto Day event, which drew around 60,000 motorcyclists and motorsports enthusiasts from Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei. 'The significant turnout of participants and visitors reflects the enduring appeal of motorsports to the youth and the general public,' he added. Semporna next property hotspot in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 17): PropNex Sabah sees Semporna as Sabah's next property hotspot, with villas and the district's first commercial suites already in the pipeline. Prices start from RM2xx,000, with investors projected to enjoy at least 6% rental yields, fuelled by tourism and commercial growth, PropNex Sabah said in a statement on Sunday. Meanwhile, commercial properties in Kota Kinabalu remain in limited supply, pointing to rising demand as more businesses and retailers establish a presence in the state capital. PropNex Sabah has once again made its mark on Malaysia's real estate landscape after clinching two major titles at the National Real Estate Awards (NREA) 2025 — Sabah Firm of the Year and Residential Firm of the Year. The victory cements the firm's position as one of the state's leading real estate agencies, adding to its growing list of national recognitions. Since 2022, PropNex Sabah has won multiple awards, including Sabah Residential Real Estate Firm of the Year for three consecutive years (2022–2024) and Sabah Real Estate Firm of the Year in 2023. PropNex Sabah's vision, according to its leadership, is to transform negotiators into trusted professionals while lifting industry standards in line with Sabah's rising international appeal. The state has been attracting strong investor interest, particularly from Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and Germany. The Sabah Malaysia My Second Home (SMM2H) programme has also boosted demand, drawing retirees and long-term residents seeking lifestyle properties ranging from seafront residences to mountain retreats. Agency leader Philomena Chai credited developers and partners for the win. 'These awards are not just a win for PropNex, but for Sabah. We thank the developers who have worked hand-in-hand with us to create attractive property designs and packages. With their support, our negotiators stay motivated and our purchasers enjoy greater value,' she said. Her business partner Stephon Chong added that PropNex's role extends beyond transactions. 'Our role goes beyond sales — it's about consistently adding value. Every year, we host international training sessions with up to 200 negotiators from Singapore, sharing advanced sales techniques that inspire our team and build millionaire careers,' he said. Beyond property sales, PropNex Sabah continues to prioritise education and community empowerment. Its monthly Property Wealth Formula Masterclass helps the public understand long-term value creation and sustainable wealth building through real estate. On the national stage, PropNex Malaysia emerged as the most-awarded real estate agency at NREA 2025, winning 18 company and individual awards across top categories including National Real Estate Firm of the Year, Residential Real Estate Firm of the Year, and Project Marketing Real Estate Firm of the Year. Seven PropNexians nationwide were also recognised under the Multi-Million Dollar Awards for achieving millionaire status in their real estate careers. Since 2021, PropNex has maintained an impressive track record at the awards, a reflection of its consistent growth, professional excellence, and commitment to raising industry standards. With this year's success, PropNex Sabah is poised to continue strengthening its presence from Kota Kinabalu to Semporna, positioning the state as a prime destination for both Malaysian and international property investors.
