ESPN's FPI Predicts Winner of 2025 SEC Championship Game
The Texas Longhorns completed their first season in the SEC in 2024, reaching the conference championship and the College Football Playoff.
While Texas ultimately lost to the Georgia Bulldogs 22-19 in overtime, it was the No. 5 seed in the playoff and reached the semifinal.
ESPN's FPI recently updated its odds and predicted that the Longhorns will not only reach the SEC Championship Game again in 2025 but also win it. It gave Texas a 34.1% chance to win the conference.
Texas will have a different look this season after losing key contributors like quarterback Quinn Ewers, receiver Mathew Golden, offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., and cornerback Jahdae Barron to the NFL.
Fans will finally see Arch Manning start for the Longhorns under center after backing up Ewers for the last two seasons.
The Texas faithful caught a glimpse last year after Manning started two games following an oblique injury to Ewers in Week 2 versus the Michigan Wolverines. Ewers played in the following game against UTSA but was forced to exit.
Manning led Texas to wins over UL Monroe and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. From 2023-24, the young quarterback has 12 games of experience, having thrown for 969 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions.
While fans eagerly await the start of the 2025 season, Texas is already looking ahead to the 2027 class. The Longhorns received some great news regarding top offensive tackle Kennedy Brown.
Brown is a five-star prospect, whose frontrunners are Texas and the Oregon Ducks.
The Longhorns already have a solid group of commits from the 2026 class and received some good news lately. Five-star quarterback commit Dia Bell was named as one of the top 25 recruits regardless of class by ESPN's Billy Tucker.
A consecutive trip to Atlanta for the Longhorns would be quite the achievement. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 20, 2025, where it first appeared.

Jaydon Blue's ankle injury has his availability for Saturday in question
Cowboys running back Jaydon Blue was injured during Thursday's practice. Blue spun to the ground awkwardly after defensive end Sam Williams grabbed Blue's facemask. He remained on the ground before taking a cart to the injury tent and later was escorted to the training room. Blue returned to the practice field in street clothes. He told Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he injured his ankle. Although Blue insisted he is fine, his availability for the preseason opener on Saturday against the Rams now is in question. Blue, a fifth-round pick, is a favorite to land a feature role on the offense after debunking questions about his work habits. Veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders also are expected to be big contributors in the backfield. Tight end Jake Ferguson also left practice early after taking a shot in the back from linebacker Kenneth Murray.

Anthony Richardson vs. Daniel Jones stats: Live updates from preseason Week 1
Anthony Richardson opened the 2024 NFL season as the Indianapolis Colts' starting quarterback. He is hoping to do that again in 2025 but will need to stave off competition from Daniel Jones to make that happen. The Colts signed Jones to a one-year, $14 million deal during the 2025 offseason, and the organization has been steadfast about the former New York Giants first-round pick having a chance to earn the starting job. Thus far, a favorite has yet to emerge in the competition. Coach Shane Steichen praised both Richardson and Jones for "doing a really good job" during training camp. "Both of them have made plays at a high level the last couple days, and that's what you want to see," Steichen told reporters ahead of preseason Week 1. "You want to see growth, you want to see completions, you want to see the offense moving up and down the field." Now, the two quarterbacks will go head-to-head in preseason action, with Richardson getting a first crack at proving himself as a starter against the Baltimore Ravens. USA TODAY Sports is tracking the performance of each quarterback during preseason Week 1. Follow below for live performance updates and highlights from the two quarterbacks.
