PUBG creator's goal for his new open-world project is to make "realistic Minecraft" complete with real geology
PUBG's very own Brenden Green - better known as PlayerUnknown - wants his new simulation game, made at his new studio, to essentially be a "realistic Minecraft" with geology that echoes the real world.
Speaking to GamesRadar+ about his Earth-scale simulation game Project Artemis and his upcoming survival game Project: Go Wayback - which is built on the same, impressive procgen tech - Greene laid out his vision of a world that's true to our Earth.
"I want to do geology," he says. "I want you to be able to see an area and go 'there should be iron here' or 'there should be this resource' and maybe set up a mine and do this kind of Civilization, Age of Empires [thing] in 3D, but as a layer. If you choose to interact with that layer, you can."
Project Artemis might still be a decade away, but the team's goal is to be able to "generate a world terrain" where everything is stitched together in a way that makes real, ecological sense, and you can "then figure out by the satellite map what's underneath it." That last part is particularly important since Greene and Co. are also building caves as part of their goal to make "a realistic Minecraft."
"But again, this is why we have a ten year [plan], because doing this all in real time? We've been asked many times 'why are you doing this in real time?', but as you can see, it gives us some interesting abilities to generate worlds," he says.
That focus on realism is also being extend to Project: Go Wayback, a brutally realistic survival sim that strips the genre of any gamified hand-holding. You need to protect yourself from the cold, but you can't build a campfire from a menu. You need to make your way to a faraway weather tower, but your map won't have a handy icon letting you know your position in the landscape.

As such, expectations are very high indeed, and because we've not seen much on it so far, things are still very much up in the air. Only a brief cinematic trailer has been revealed so far, showing Logan sitting at a bar after what looks to have been a very bloody brawl. At present, Wolverine is only slated for a PS5 release. Fairgame$ Fairgame$ is a competitive heist game where you join an underground movement to rob the ultra-rich and rebalance the scales. We've not seen any gameplay yet, nor do we have a release window or release date. What we do know is that it'll launch on PS5 and PC. Phantom Blade Zero Phantom Blade Zero was revealed during a PlayStation Showcase event in 2023. It looks set to blend fast-paced action with cinematic quick-time gameplay. Sword of the Sea Sword of the Sea takes place in an abandoned realm where the terrain flows in waves. You'll make use of a traversal vehicle called the Hoversword. The Hoversword controls like a snowboard, skateboard, and hoverboard all in one. Build momentum to achieve great speeds and catch big air as you explore skatepark-like ruins, uncovering an ancient mystery as you go. At present, Sword of the Sea is announced for PS5 and PC, and it'll launch August 19, 2025.. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was a surprise reveal that closed out The Game Awards 2024. It's the new game from Naughty Dog, and looks to be a sci-fi epic, with a retro-futuristic vibe. We don't know too much about the game yet, except that it's being developed exclusively for PS5 consoles. From the official announcement blog post: "Intergalactic stars our newest protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who's flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit." At present, we have no release window for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, so we'll mark it down as TBC. You Might Also Like... New Game Plus arrives next week in Assassin's Creed Shadows as confirmed by huge roadmap update
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Assassin's Creed Shadows is getting a bunch of updates throughout the year It starts with a New Game Plus update next week Further changes and an expansion are set to arrive in September Ubisoft has provided a huge update for Assassin's Creed Shadows' upcoming content roadmap. Revealed in a post to the official series website, the 'summer roadmap' begins with a progression update, arriving next week on July 29. Headlining this update is the arrival of New Game Plus, which lets players carry over character level, gear, skill points, Hideout progression and knowledge rank into a new game after they've rolled credits. The progression update also brings a level cap increase from 60 to 80, new knowledge ranks, a new forge level and the addition of more achievements and trophies (depending on your platform of choice). At the start of September (date TBC), Ubisoft will bring a 'quality-of-life improvement update' to Assassin's Creed Shadows. This free update will finally allow players to fast forward the time of day, 'unfog' the world map, and bring more Hideout and general content updates. This update will also uncap the frame rate in cutscenes, though this is a feature that will only be found in the PC version of the game. Lastly, on September 16, Assassin's Creed Shadows will receive its first story expansion. Known as Claws of Awaji, the expansion adds a new region to explore, as well as all-new weapons, abilities, gear, and enemies. Ubisoft claims the expansion will add more than ten hours of content, and will unlock only after you've beaten the base game story. Likely, this means the expansion will carry on the story from the original ending. You might also like... Capcom announces new changes to Monster Hunter Wilds' roadmap by releasing 'the expansion of endgame content' sooner than expected
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Monster Hunter Wilds' roadmap has been updated and will bring content from Title Update 3 forward A new level of quest difficulty and a new rewards system featuring Talismans from Title Update 3 will now be released as part of Ver.1.021 next month To accommodate the change, Ver.1.021 will now be released on August 13 Capcom has announced new changes to Monster Hunter Wilds' roadmap, which includes bringing endgame content closer to release. In a new social media post shared today, Capcom confirmed that "the expansion of endgame content" originally planned as part of Title Update 3, and set to release in late September, will now arrive as part of Ver.1.021 next month. The content included in Title Update 3 that will now be part of Ver.1.021 includes a new level of quest difficulty, a new rewards system for the new quests featuring Talismans with random skill combinations, weapon balance adjustments, and other improvements and adjustments. To accommodate this change, Capcom also confirmed that the release date of the upcoming update will be moved slightly out of its original release window to August 13, 2025. The "additional monster" that was revealed for Title Update 3 won't be moved forward, so fans will have to wait a little longer for that to arrive, and the contents of Title Update 4, which includes an "additional monster" and "more Challenging Hunts," are still set to arrive later in the year. These latest roadmap changes follow the release of Title Update 2 earlier this month, which finally addressed the shader compilation issue that had been causing awful performance on PC since the game's launch. Despite fixing the issue, the game still has an "Overwhelmingly Negative" score on Steam from 16,660 user reviews, but an overall "Mixed" score from 162,985 users. You might also like...
