GOF seizes 14 goats, 190kg of ketum in Kelantan raids
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said two local men were arrested in connection with the possession of the livestock and the ketum leaves.
He said both seizures were made under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan, which took place on Monday and last night.
In the first operation, members of the 7th Battalion spotted a suspicious vehicle at Chabang Empat Tendong in Pasir Mas at around 7pm yesterday.
"Upon inspection, GOF personnel found 14 goats cramped in the rear of the vehicle.
"The 41-year-old driver failed to produce any documentation for the animals, which are believed to have been intended for sale on the local market. The estimated value of the seizure is RM10,500," he said.
The case has been referred to the Kelantan Veterinary Department for further action under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953.
In a separate case, Ros Azhan said GOF personnel discovered several packages of ketum leaves in a vehicle.
"The car was stopped as it passed through Kampung Bechah Butir Nangka in Tanah Merah at around 9am on Monday. Inside, the personnel found 19 black plastic packages containing 190kg of ketum leaves. The driver was also detained.
"The seizure, valued at about RM7,600, has been handed over to the Tanah Merah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

Simpang Pulai factory raided, over RM8.5mil in copper, equipment seized
PETALING JAYA: Over RM8.5mil worth of copper materials and machinery were seized, and a local man was arrested during the Ops Hazard enforcement operations in Simpang Pulai. Ulu Kinta, General Operations Force (GOF) Northern Brigade Commander Senior Asst Comm Shahrum Hashim said in a statement on Friday (Aug 1) that the factory was suspected of processing materials intended for export overseas. 'Intelligence units gathered over a month revealed that the illegal activity had been continuing for more than a year. Inspections showed that the factory had been operating without any approval from the Environment Department,' he said. The Northern Brigade Intelligence Branch of the General Operations Force, with support from the Inland Revenue Board of Perak, Batu Gajah Municipal Council, and the Perak Environment Department, took part in the operation from 7.00am to 8.00pm on Friday. According to Shahrum, the case was being investigated under Section 34A and Section 34B of the Environmental Quality Act 1974. 'GOF is actively conducting monitoring and patrols around Perak, Penang, and Kedah to curb illegal activities. The brigade remains committed and consistent in enforcement efforts and will not compromise in upholding the law,' he added. He has urged the public to be the eyes and ears of the authorities by reporting illegal activities to the relevant enforcement agencies.

Four-year-old boy falls to death from 8th-storey window in Klang
KLANG: A four-year-old boy died after he fell out of an eight-floor flat unit on Friday (Aug 1) morning. According to South Klang deputy OCPD Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the incident occurred at the Port Klang Perantau Flats' Block J. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at his workplace, and the mother was out of the house sending her second child to the babysitters. "The victim is believed to have fallen out of a window of his home on the eighth floor," said Supt Kamalariffin. He added that police received a distress call reporting the incident from a woman at 8am. According to Supt Kamalariffin, the victim was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here for emergency treatment and pronounced dead during treatment. He said the post-mortem results indicated that the victim had suffered head injuries as a result of falling from a height. He also added that police opened an investigation under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which comes with a jail term of not more than 20 years and a fine not exceeding RM50,000. "The police are urging members of the public, with other information pertaining to this incident, to go to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang police at 03-33762222 to help with the investigations," he said.
