ACB nabs 2 RIs for demanding bribes
Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials caught a revenue inspector, Bhoopala Mahesh, working at the office of the tahsildar, Musheerabad mandal red-handed for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a complainant to issue a family member's certificate, an essential document for various official and legal processes. According to ACB, Mahesh initially demanded Rs 1 lakh. Following the complaint, ACB officials laid a trap and apprehended the RI while accepting Rs 25,000, a part of the demanded bribe.
Investigation is on. In another case, ACB nabbed an RI at the office of tahsildar at Ibrahimpatnam mandal, in Ranga Reddy district, G Krishna, for allegedly demanding Rs 12 lakh bribe from the complainant for processing adding of seven guntas in his father's pattadar passbook in survey number 355 at Adibatla village and to not only see that the file is processed at RDO office, but also influence higher up at MRO and RDO offices, said ACB officials.

7 Maoists surrender in Dantewada
Dantewada: Seven Maoists, two of them carrying cash rewards on their heads, surrendered in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, a police official said. The cadres turned themselves in before police and CRPF officials citing disappointment at the growing differences within the outlawed CPI (Maoist), the harsh forest life and the movement's hollow ideology, he said. The official identified the surrendered cadres as Juglu alias Sundum Kowasi (23), Dasha alias Burku Podiam (26), Bhoja Ram Madvi (48), Lakhma alias Suti (26), Ratu alias Othe Kowasi (25), Sukhram Podiyam (25) and Pandru Ram Podiyam (45). "Juglu and Dasha carried a bounty of Rs 50,000 each. The surrendered Naxalites were involved in incidents like damaging roads, cutting trees, putting up Naxalite banners, posters and pamphlets during 'bandh' called by Maoists.

Kota bank fraud: ICICI bank employee altered customer mobile numbers; stole Rs 4.58 crore over 3 years
ICICI employee swindles over 4.5cr from Kota city branch, arrested KOTA: In a major bank fraud, a relationship manager of ICICI Bank, Sakshi Gupta, has allegedly siphoned off Rs 4.58 crore from customer accounts in Kota city. The accused worked at Shriram Nagar branch of DCM area in Kota and committed the fraud during the 2020-23 period. She was arrested by the Udhyog Nagar police on May 31 following investigation. The crime first came to light on Feb 18, following which the branch manager lodged a complaint with the police. According to police, for around two-and-a-half years, Sakshi withdrew funds fraudulently from over 100 accounts of 41 customers. She purportedly invested the money in the stock market, but suffered heavy losses. To prevent customers from noticing, she changed the mobile numbers linked to several accounts to numbers belonging to her relatives, ensuring that transaction alerts and OTPs were not received by the real account holders. Bank manager Tarun Dadhich subsequently filed a complaint against her. According to Udhyog Nagar police station SI Ibrahim, the fraud was first reported on Feb 18. From 2020 to 2023, Sakshi had systematically transferred funds from various customer accounts, in some cases using an elderly woman's account, who was unaware of the activity, as a 'pool account'. She had transferred over Rs 3 crore into this account. In addition, a fraudulent personal loan for Rs 3.4 lakh was disbursed. Many transactions were conducted through insta kiosks and various digital banking platforms, with the accused using debit cards of four customers for ATM and internet banking activity. Funds from these frauds were also sent to Demat accounts as part of an attempted cover-up, police said. A statement issued by the ICICI Bank said, "The interest of our customers are of paramount importance to us. Immediately upon discovering the fraudulent activity, we filed an FIR with the police. We have a zero-tolerance policy against any fraudulent activity and thus suspended the employee involved. We would like to reassure that genuine claims of impacted customers have been settled." Body of second Maoist leader recovered from Bijapur site
Top Maoist leader Bhaskar was killed in an encounter with security forces in Indravati National Park area in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday and his body was recovered from the site of the operation on Friday, officials said. A statement from Bastar range inspector general of police Sunderraj P confirmed that the deceased was identified as Mailarapu Adelu who was popularly known by his alias Bhaskar, a top functionary of the CPI (Maoist)'s Telangana State Committee (TSC). Bhaskar also served as the secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem (MKB) division and held the rank of special committee member (SCM). The encounter was part of the same anti-Maoist operation underway since Wednesday by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) as well as the CRPF's specialised unit CoBRA, Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj said. 'After the exchange of fire stopped, the body of a Naxalite along with one AK-47 rifle and other explosives, weapons, and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. Preliminary identification suggests the body is of Bhaskar alias Mailarapu Adellu, a special zonal committee (SZC) member of the Telangana State Committee (TSC) of the outlawed Maoists,' he said. 'Bhaskar, a resident of Adilabad district in Telangana, was the secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem (MKB) division of the TSC of Maoists. He carried a reward of ₹25 lakhs in Chhattisgarh and 20 lakhs in Telangana,' the IG added. This is the third big success in the past fortnight for security forces pushing relentlessly against the Naxals with the aim of ending the menace by March 2026. On Thursday, senior Maoist leader Narasimha Chalam alias Sudhakar, who had a bounty of ₹40 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the same area, police said. On May 21, Communist Party of India (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70) was neutralised by security forces in Narayanpur in Bastar region. 'With the killing of both Bhaskar and Sudhakar in back-to-back operations, we believe it is a significant setback for the Maoist presence in the region. The search for other cadres is still underway,' the IG added. According to Chhattisgarh police records, Bhaskar, 53, hailed from Pochera village under Boath mandal in Telangana's Adilabad district and belonged to the Scheduled Caste (Madiga) community. He discontinued his intermediate studies and was earlier engaged in agriculture. Bhaskar was married to Kanthi Lingavva alias Anitha, who was a Divisional Committee Member (DCM) in the same division and was killed in an encounter on December 22, 2022. Records claimed that Bhaskar was fluent in Telugu, Hindi, Gondi, and GothiKoya and was known to carry an AK-47. Since January last year, more than 403 Maoist cadres have been neutralized so far in the Bastar division in separate encounters, according to government figures. Sundarraj reiterated the appeal to Maoist cadres to surrender. 'We are committed to restoring peace and development in the region,' he said.
