Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials caught a revenue inspector, Bhoopala Mahesh, working at the office of the tahsildar, Musheerabad mandal red-handed for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a complainant to issue a family member's certificate, an essential document for various official and legal processes. According to ACB, Mahesh initially demanded Rs 1 lakh. Following the complaint, ACB officials laid a trap and apprehended the RI while accepting Rs 25,000, a part of the demanded bribe. Investigation is on. In another case, ACB nabbed an RI at the office of tahsildar at Ibrahimpatnam mandal, in Ranga Reddy district, G Krishna, for allegedly demanding Rs 12 lakh bribe from the complainant for processing adding of seven guntas in his father's pattadar passbook in survey number 355 at Adibatla village and to not only see that the file is processed at RDO office, but also influence higher up at MRO and RDO offices, said ACB officials. The ACB advised the citizens to discourage bribery and contact toll free number 1064 for complaints. A Revenue Inspector (RI) in Hyderabad, Telangana, allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from an individual for issuing a family on the victim's complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted a raid and caught Bhoopala Mahesh, RI at the office of Tehsildar in Musheerabad, red-handed while accepting Rs 25,000 as part case is currently under investigation, and the accused is to appear before the Special Judge for Special Police Establishment (SPE) and ACB cases in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Sessions Courts located in Nampally, In a similar case on May 11, 2025, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Jeevan Lal Lavidiya, Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Hyderabad, and four others in a Rs 70 lakh bribery arrests followed a trap operation where a middleman was caught accepting the bribe on Lavidiya's behalf to settle a tax appeal. Simultaneous searches at 18 locations across Mumbai, Hyderabad, Khammam (in Telangana), Visakhapatnam (in Andhra Pradesh), and New Delhi led to the recovery of Rs 69 lakh in cash and incriminating such incident occurred on January 21, 2025, where a Hyderabad Police Inspector, L. Balu Chowhan, was arrested by the ACB for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh. Chowhan, who previously served as the Station House Officer at Shah Inayat Gunj Police Station, reportedly asked for the bribe to remove an individual's name as a suspect in a missing person's case and to prevent further harassment. The bribe was negotiated down to Rs 50, was discharged from his duties and arrested.
