Ricky Simon has a new opponent for Saturday's UFC on ESPN 69.
With Charles Jourdain unable to get medical clearance for an eye issue, Simon (21-6 MMA, 9-5 UFC) will now face Cameron Smotherman (12-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) on the preliminary card at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The bout will be contested at featherweight.
The promotion announced the change Tuesday after an initial report Monday by Eurosport NL.
"It is with deep sorrow that I announce my first withdrawal from my fight in 15 UFC appearances," Jourdain wrote on X. "Unfortunately, I was not medically cleared due to a condition requiring surgical intervention. I trust this is part of a greater plan, and I'm committed to returning stronger."
Smotherman, 27, made his UFC debut in October when he upset Jake Hadley by unanimous decision on short notice. He returned in May, but lost by unanimous decision to Serhiy Sidey.
Simon, 32, snapped a three-fight skid in February when he landed a first-round, performance bonus-earning bludgeoning punch on Javid Basharat.

ESPN NBA booth facing another potential shakeup with Doris Burke's spot in limbo
The 2025 NBA Finals could be the first and last for ESPN's current top broadcasting trio. The future of the booth featuring longtime play-by-play voice Mike Breen and analysts Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson is up in the air, as Burke's spot 'is not guaranteed for next season' and Jefferson is on an expiring contract, The Athletic's Andrew Marchand reported Wednesday. Advertisement Jefferson has drawn interest from Amazon, the report said, ahead of its first season airing NBA games starting in the fall, though ESPN 'intends' on bringing the former Nets star back.
