Shaun Wallace, fondly known as The Dark Destroyer on ITV's beloved quiz show The Chase, has become a familiar face in many homes.
He shares the spotlight with host Bradley Walsh and a squad of quiz whizzes.
The programme made its debut in June 2009, with Shaun and fellow star Mark Labbett being part of the original line-up.
They remain key figures on the show today, joined by Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis.
Prior to his rise to TV fame, Shaun was a practising criminal barrister, appearing in hearings at both the Old Bailey and numerous magistrates' courts across England, Wales and Scotland.
His life took an exciting twist in 2004 when he clinched victory in the BBC general knowledge quiz Mastermind, choosing FA Cup Finals as his specialist subject.
This triumph caught the eye of Bradley Walsh and his production crew, leading to Shaun being headhunted by ITV to become the inaugural chaser on The Chase.
His popularity on the show paved the way for a host of other opportunities, including hosting quizzes on cruise ships, writing his own autobiography Catching A Dream, and making countless other TV appearances, according to Bristol Live.
Despite his celebrity status, little is known about Shaun's personal life. Here, we delve into his life off-screen.
Seven-figure earnings

In a recent chat, Shaun unveiled his impressive dual income, revealing that he now commands a hefty six-figure salary for his work as a barrister and TV personality.
Mastermind champion Shaun has credited his victory on the popular quiz show for a significant boost in his bank balance.
In a chat with The Times about his financial situation, Shaun coyly hinted at his increased earnings with a playful comment: "A lot. That's all I'll say. How many zeros?"
He revealed that he is now: "Well into six-zero territory and my earnings have increased massively since I've started working in TV. I got paid well as a barrister but I'm now earning about ten times the amount I was before."
Despite his rise to TV fame, Shaun also mentioned maintaining his career in law: "I still practise, though, so I have a dual income. Probably 70 percent of my income comes from my TV work and 30 percent from the legal side. Everything changed when I won Mastermind in 2004. Not just my finances, my whole life."
Private romance

Regarding his private life, Shaun, who is better known as The Dark Destroyer on The Chase, tends to keep details of his romantic encounters under wraps.
During his candid chat with Loose Women's Kaye Adams on the How To Be 60 podcast, Shaun unexpectedly disclosed some personal updates about his romantic life.
Carefully playing his cards close to his chest, he quipped: "I suppose I'm married to my career. Put it that way. I like that. I prefer that and I'm happier."
When pressed about a significant other, Shaun simply stated: "Yes, I'm in a relationship."
Never raising children

The 64-year-old typically reticent about his private affairs, offered insights into his personal life during a recent appearance on a podcast, revealing information often shielded from the limelight.
Addressing the topic of fatherhood, Shaun admitted: "No, I have never had a child."
He attributed his decision not to start a family to the demands of his budding barrister career, indicating that climbing the legal ladder hardly seemed compatible with responsible parenting.
Shaun elaborated on his reasoning during the podcast, saying: "It was a conscious reason when I was a young struggling barrister. I didn't think it would be right to bring up a child when you're trying to climb to the top of that greasy pole."
While he has not had any children of his own, Shaun has assumed a nurturing role in the lives of many as a godfather, undertaking parental responsibilities multiple times over.
Shaun expressed unwavering satisfaction with his life decisions, declaring: "And I've never regretted that decision. I've got 15 godchildren. Two of them are called Shaun and I'm the best godfather in the world. I probably would have been a great dad but I've got no regrets in relation to that."
Moreover, the television presenter plays a significant part in his ex's child's life, seeing this bond as truly meaningful. Beaming with joy, he explained how she became akin to a daughter for him, with her even referring to him as dad.
With a tone of pure pride, Shaun remarked on witnessing her grow up: "I watched her grow into a lovely young lady. She got a first-class honours degree recently and she got her doctorate the other day and I was there."
Retirement plans
(Image: (Image: ITV))
The ITV star recently marked his 64th birthday, sparking queries from devotees about whether he envisaged hanging up his The Dark Destroyer persona on Bradley Walsh's smash-hit ITV programme, The Chase.
Having been an integral fixture of The Chase since its debut in June 2009, Shaun shows zero signs of wanting to bow out.
During a heart-to-heart with New Zealand Woman's Weekly, he voiced his plan to carry on in his vocation.
He confidently disclosed: "I'm celebrating 40 years in the job this year and I have no plans to retire at 65 - I love it. I love quizzing too, so I will be doing that for as long as I can."
Shaun recognised the transient world of television and maintained a grounded perspective on the longevity of the popular quiz show.
Sharing his thoughts, he said: "I never take being on The Chase for granted. I know it could all end tomorrow, and I still pinch myself that we are celebrating our 15th anniversary this year."
The Chase is available to watch on ITVX.

Queen Camilla has leading role in her favourite author's latest murder mystery
Both Queen Camilla and King Charles are featured in the new royal whodunnit, written by Peter James, whom Her Majesty has openly named as her favourite crime author Queen Camilla is to star in her favourite author's latest murder mystery - and has even helped with the plot. Her Majesty, 77, has a central role in The Hawk Is Dead: A Killer In The Palace, which sees a detective investigate a murder at Buckingham Palace. Camilla has openly named the author, Peter James, as her top crime writer and forged a friendship with him in the past 10 years. It is said Camilla is "thrilled" to have a leading role in the book, due for release in October, written some time after the Queen Consort had suggested her friend set his legendary Brighton-based detective's latest case in London. His books have been made into an ITV drama series Grace, staring John Simm as the eponymous detective superintendent. "Fortunately, no one is likely to be more thrilled to find themselves taking a leading role in their own royal whodunnit than Her Majesty," writes Daily Mail's royal editor, Rebecca English, in today's publication. King Charles also features in the book, which tells the tale of a detective exploring what they believe to be a assassination attempt at Buckingham Palace. Publishers Pan Macmillan said: "Opening with a cinematic derailment of the Royal Train, The Hawk Is Dead takes Roy Grace deep into the heart of Buckingham Palace, where he is called upon to solve a murder and what looks to be a royal assassination attempt." "Queen Camilla, a well-known book lover and reading champion through her charity The Queen's Reading Room, has always been one of the first people to receive each Grace novel and is excited to have a starring role, alongside King Charles, in Peter's latest thriller." Her Majesty has already had a sneak peakat the novel, it is understood. Peter, 76 and who has several Sunday Times No 1 bestsellers to his name, was "moved to tears" by Camilla's recent nomination of Grace as her favourite detective. Speaking in a recent interview, Peter, who was raised in East Sussex, said: "I came up with an idea, which I ran by Her Majesty and she loved it. Throughout writing, during which I've done extensive behind-the-scenes research at the Palace, I have received invaluable insights from the Royal Household, including Her Majesty." The pair have developed a firm but unlikely friendship and, in 2021, Her Majesty visited the set of Grace, the fifth series of which has just aired on ITV. A sixth series of the drama is already in production. Insiders told the Daily Mail "any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental" when asked about Peter's new book. Buckingham Palace declined to comment to the publication.

Scarlett Moffatt 'set to sign up for I'm A Celeb All Stars' as TV star prepares to head to South Africa 10 years after winning the show
Scarlett Moffatt is reportedly planning her return to TV and is in talks to join the All Stars version of I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here! The Gogglebox star, 34, was crowned Queen of the Jungle back in 2016, so her appearance on All Stars would mark her tenth anniversary of winning the show. Filming is set to start in South Africa later this year with a source telling The Sun: 'Scarlett won I'm A Celeb in 2016 and was hugely popular with viewers, so everyone's really excited she might be returning for the new All Stars series. 'She is so game for a laugh and knows what to expect in terms of the Bushtucker Trials, so she'll throw herself into every task. 'Scarlett is a mum now and she wants to do it to show her little boy how brave she can be.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. MailOnline have contacted Scarlett's representatives and ITV for comment. It was revealed in February that Ant and Dec would be returning to host another All Stars series. A source close to the production revealed: 'It did well last time and while they can't do it annually, they wanted to do another.' The first series featured a star-studded lineup of former contestants, including boxing champion Amir Khan, Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan, TV presenter Carol Vorderman and Olympic athlete Fatima Whitbread. Series six runner-up Myleene Klass was crowned the winner after defeating series 16 campmate Jordan Banjo in the final survival trial. A spin-off of the original I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, the special is filmed in Kruger National Park, South Africa, where celebrities take on various challenges in a basic, luxury-free camp. Unlike the original format, however, the all-star series does not allow viewers to vote for contestants to face Bushtucker Trials. Instead, the campmates battle it out for the title of 'Legend,' departing from the traditional crowning of a Jungle King or Queen. The I'm A Celebrity… South Africa special garnered strong viewership, with an average of 5.5 million viewers tuning in per episode. The news comes after Scarlett shared a powerful message on body confidence as she showcased her incredible dance skills during a ballroom competition at the weekend. The TV personality previously took to Instagram to share a video of herself dancing with a pal during the contest, in which she expressed how much fun she was having on the dancefloor. However, Scarlett then re-shared her video on Sunday where she encouraged others to not let their appearance or age stop them from doing what they love. Alongside the clip, which sees her beaming with joy while dazzling in a neon green gown, Scarlett penned: 'I've said it once I'll say it a million times. DO NOT let your shape, size or age stop you from doing something that brings you joy. 'Don't let that silly inner sabotage voice tell you ya won't be able to do it. Don't tell yourself I'll do it when I'm thinner, when I'm fitter or when a,b or c happens. Do it now!' The former Gogglebox favourite continued: 'I can't tell you how much joy dancing in two finals with my childhood friend has made me this weekend. I was thinking of nothing but the sheer joy that dance brings me, I hope I can encourage one more person to do the same.'
