Ranchi: Proving that determination, discipline and dreams can triumph over any circumstance, two inspiring young girls from poor financial backgrounds topped the Ranchi district in their respective streams in the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) Class XII results.
Jiya Srivastava, daughter of Gautam Kumar Srivastava, who works for a local tiffin service, grabbed the district topper position in the science stream, securing 94.6%. Her journey to the top rank was not easy. Her mother Mamta Srivastava said Jiya would often eat just one roti a day. "If I eat two, I'll feel sleepy," Mamta said quoting her daughter. She added that Jiya would often forget to eat or drink in her focused pursuit of academic excellence.
She maintained a rigorous schedule, studying six to hours hours daily, avoiding distractions like TV and mobile phones.
"I stayed away from junk food and anything that could disrupt my focus. The less I ate, the more I could concentrate," Jiya, who aspires to become an IAS officer, said. Drawing inspiration from Tina Dabi, who topped UPSC exam in 2015, Jiya said, "Her experience, personality, and knowledge encourage me. I want to serve the country like her."In commerce stream, Rekha Kumari, the daughter of daily wage labourer Mahadeo Oraon, secured the first position in district with a score of 93.6%.
Talking to TOI, Rekha credited her success to a consistent study routine, self-motivation and support from her family. "My father is a labourer while my mother is a homemaker. Despite financial woes, I stayed focused."

13 students from government-run free coaching centre clear IIT-JEE Advance in Jharkhand
RANCHI: As many as thirteen students from government schools getting free coaching at 'State Level Akansha Programme' in Ranchi, have cleared IIT-JEE Advance this year. After clearing JEE Advanced Examination, these students are now eligible for admission in prestigious IITs located across the country. Despite the challenging level of the question paper this year, the success of the students of the Aakanksha program is being seen as a landmark. 'It all became possible due to the regular classes being conducted at Akansha by the best faculty available here. Students here, are made to remain in full discipline as there is no scope for diverting from their goals or bunking their classes, as a close eye is kept on them by Administrator VK Singh,' said the District Education Officer Vinay Kumar. Only the students passing out their class 10 Board exam with Jharkhand Autonomous Council (JAC) are eligible to appear for its entrance test, he added. 'Since students are admitted here after going through a two-stage filter, firstly by the JAC and then during the entrance test conducted by Akansha, only serious students get this facility,' said the DEO. He, however, said that he was expecting better results this time, looking at the hard work these students had been doing during the last two years, he added. Notably, a selection test is organised by the department for the children studying in government schools in class XI across Jharkhand. Based on the selection test, 40 students are selected for both the Engineering and Medical streams.

Delhi HC Allows Open School Students For JAC Counselling Without Class 12 Results
Last Updated: The Delhi High Court allowed open school students to join JAC counselling for engineering and architecture courses despite Class 12 result delays. JAC Counselling 2025: In a major relief for open school students waiting for their Class 12 results, the Delhi High Court has allowed them to take part in the Joint Admission Committee (JAC) counselling for engineering and architecture courses offered by Delhi government-funded universities, as reported by ANI. JAC is a group of institutions that conduct admissions based on JEE (Main) scores. Normally, it schedules counselling after the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) releases Class 12 results. However, this year, JAC closed its registration process on June 2, before the NIOS results were announced. This left many deserving open school students unable to apply, despite having good JEE scores. According to ANI report, one of the students, Om Upadhyay, who comes from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), moved to the Delhi High Court on May 28. Om had scored an impressive 97.7 percentile in the JEE-Mains exam but was unable to register for counselling due to the delay in the result declaration. Other students facing the same issue joined him in the petition. They argued that students should not miss out on opportunities simply because of a delay in the board results and requested permission for provisional registration. On May 30, the Delhi High Court passed an order in their favour. The court directed JAC to allow these students to register physically on June 2 and to give them another chance for online registration on June 19, even if they don't have their Class 12 results yet. The court also asked NIOS to try and declare the Class 12 results by June 17, 2025, so that students can meet the admission timelines. In addition, JAC was told to inform other students in similar situations about this option so they can also register and participate in the counselling process. Following the count's order, JAC has released the revised schedule for JAC Counselling 2025 opening the registration window for a single day on June 19, 2025 before Round 2. According to the official schedule, those candidates who failed to register in the initial window will be able to register and complete the choice filling/editing process from 10 AM to 10.30 PM. Candidates must note that registration will not be allowed any further before any round throughout the JAC Delhi Admission Cycle. Applications received without a prescribed registration fee of Rs 1500 will not be considered. First Published: June 03, 2025, 10:44 IST
