Justin Barcia to return from knee injury in Southwick, Pro Motocross Round 5
Justin Barcia will return to racing this weekend for Round 5 of the 2025 Pro Motocross season at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts.
Barcia suffered a knee injury in Round 14 of the Monster Energy Supercross series, and since he did not require surgery, he initially hoped to return to action in the season opener in Pala, California.
Although that deadline has come and gone, Southwick is a good place for Barcia to begin his Pro Motocross season. In eight starts there, he stood on the podium four times — all with third-place overall finishes. The most recent of these came in 2021 when he finished second in Moto 1 to the eventual overall winner Dylan Ferrandis and was fourth in Moto 2.
Barcia finished 14th in Motocross points last year after making only five starts. Notably, his last start of the season came at Southwick, where he finished seventh overall with results of sixth and 11th in the two motos. Following that race, Barcia chose to rest his knee after attempting to ride with an injury he suffered at the end of the 2024 Supercross season. Barcia anticipated returning for the final rounds of Motocross, beginning with Unadilla, but did not remount his GasGas 450 until the start of the SMX Playoffs.
Barcia is currently 15th in combined SuperMotocross League standings, which will determine his seeding for the three-round playoffs beginning in September. He has an 88-point advantage over 21st-place Mitchell Harrison. The top 20 in combined Supercross and Motocross points earn an automatic invitation to the playoffs.

Motocross 2025 250 results, highlights, finish at Southwick: Haiden Deegan wins with best season performance
Haiden Deegan does not always get the greatest starts, but he's made a career out of riding through the pack. That changed Saturday at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, when he earned the holeshot in both motos and charged to a commanding lead. Deegan replicated the perfect race executed by Chance Hymas in Lakewood, Colorado, by topping both sessions of qualification, leading every lap of competition, and sweeping the motos. In Moto 1, Deegan dominated the pack to win by 25 seconds. In the second moto, he was truer to form. Deegan built a gap of 10 seconds and then maintained it, ultimately giving up a little at the end of the race to avoid any mistakes and winning by eight seconds. Deegan's 21st moto win moved him around Jett Lawrence and Jeff Ward on the all-time wins list to place him 14th. If he sweeps the motos of the RedBud Nationals, he will tie Eli Tomac and be within one win of 10th, currently held by Blake Baggett. Click here for a recap of Southwick Tom Vialle had an erratic weekend in Southwick. He got a strong start in Moto 1 but crashed while battling for second. Vialle remounted and charged to third in that race. He was third in the second moto also, which tied him in points with Levi Kitchen. He was scored second overall on the tiebreaker. Kitchen was a distant second to Deegan in the first moto, but considering how the championship leader has been racing this year, it was difficult for him to be overly upset with the outcome. Moto 2 did not go quite as well and he faded from second to third on Lap 5 and then lost another position the next time around. Kitchen finished fourth in the second race. If Deegan should stumble, Kitchen is position to capitalize. This was his fourth consecutive overall podium. Relive Moto 1 His comeback won't be complete until he stands on the podium, but Michael Mosiman earned his first top-five since returning from injury. In fact, if not for a mechanical issue on the final lap of Moto 1 that cost positions to the two riders ahead of him in the overall standings, he would have found that elusive spot on the box. Mosiman finished fifth in the second race and combined for fourth overall. Jo Shimoda was involved in a Turn 1 crash that dropped outside the points for several laps in the first moto. He lost too much time to challenge for a top five, but salvaged 10th in that race and was prepared to prove his mettle in Moto 2. Once he got into second in the final race, Shimoda managed to keep the gap to the leader steady and those runner-up points elevated him to fifth in the overall rundown. Motocross 2025 450 results, highlights, finish at Southwick: Jett Lawrence sweeps for third time
Jett Lawrence executed his third weekend sweep of 2025 at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, with what was his most dominant performance of the season. He finished 14 seconds ahead of the field in Moto 1 and bested them by 20 seconds in Moto 2. Jett's previous two sweeps came at Fox Raceway in the season opener and at Thunder Valley MX Park. In the other two rounds this season, he won one moto each time to score eight race wins in 10 starts. Jett now holds a 38-point advantage in the Pro Motocross Championship standings. Hunter Lawrence was best in class, finishing second in each of the motos, but was never truly in contention for the victory. Then again, he wasn't seriously challenged in either race as he rode to a comfortable spot on the podium. Click here for a recap of Southwick Eli Tomac finished third in both motos to secure third overall, but he had to overcome a poor start in the first race, completing Lap 1 in sixth position and failing to secure the podium spot until Lap 10 of 16. When asked about his performance, he admitted the Lawrence brothers were simply faster than him this week. Justin Cooper kept his streak of overall top-fives alive by finishing sixth in Moto 1 and fifth in Moto 2. He had an even bigger hill to climb in the second race than Tomac did in the first, completing Lap 1 in 12th. He climbed into the top five with four laps remaining. Without that pass, he would have been relegated outside the top five as he finished only one point better than the rider in seventh. Relive Moto 1 It took five rounds, but the reigning MXGP champion, Jorge Prado, finally scored his first overall top five in Pro Motocross after finishing fifth in the first moto and sixth in the second race. Prado challenged for podiums in both races before casual crashes pushed him further down the grid. Prado's previous best Motocross performance came in the season opener in Pala, California, when he was sixth overall on the strength of seventh and sixth place results. Aaron Plessinger failed to finish among the top five overall for the first time in 2025. He scored a solid fourth-place result in Moto 1, but faded in the second race and dropped to eighth, which put him only one point out of the coveted positions. RJ Hampshire ended the weekend with an identical number of points (32) as Plessinger, but was scored sixth with the tiebreaker. Rising motocross star Aidan Zingg dies at 16 from crash at Mammoth Lakes race
Aidan Zingg, a motocross prodigy who recently signed with Kawasaki's prestigious Team Green program, died Saturday at age 16 from injuries sustained during the Mammoth Mountain MX event in Mammoth Lakes. During a 250cc B class race, Zingg "went down in a corner," according to industry website and was run over by other bikes. Advertisement Zingg, who grew up in Hemet before his family moved to the state of Washington, won the American Motorcyclist Assn. 2024 Amateur National Championship in Supermini 2, held at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. He recently qualified for the championships for a seventh consecutive year. Aidan's sister Alex Zingg, 18, on Sunday posted a tribute to her brother. "It's been a day and I feel like it's been a lifetime," she wrote on Instagram. "My heart is completely broken. You used to joke that I was so old and that I'd die first, I would always joke that you were crazy and you'd be the first. Now I'm sitting here wishing with everything that I am that you were right so I'd never have to live a day without you." Zingg began racing in elementary school and soon dominated the 65cc, 85cc and Supermini classes. After signing with Kawasaki's Team Green, he showed immense promise at the 250cc class. His other sponsors included Oakley, Bell, and Renthal. Advertisement "It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Kawasaki Team Green rider Aidan Zingg," Kawasaki Racing posted on X. "Zingg's dedication and kind demeanor will forever be remembered." Motocross journalist Donn Maeda was among those to pay tribute to Zingg on social media, writing that he was "one of those kids that made an impression on you from the moment you met him. I interviewed him for our race series years ago when he was on a 65 and when I asked him how long it'd be until he beat his dad [former racer Robert Zingg]. He smirked and said, 'Soon, I'm sure.' "After that, he always went out of his way to say hello, even recently when he grew into a fast big bike rider…. you know; the age when teens get cocky and cool. Not Aidan." Zingg's last social media post came 10 days before his death. A joint Instagram post with of Zingg racing read: 'Remember the name… @aidanzingg.'
