Chase Sexton to miss 2025 Pro Motocross Round 2 with injury
Defending champion Chase Sexton will skip Round 2 of the 2025 Pro Motocross series to recover from an injury sustained last week at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. 'My apologies for being quiet on here and not providing an update first off, but I just wanted to come clear the air a bit,' Sexton said in a social media post on Thursday. 'As you know I had a big get off at last weekend for the kickoff to outdoors and am very sore and beat up but nothing broken so that's a positive. 'With that being said I will not be racing this weekend and am going to get back to 100% before returning. Thanks to the people in my corner and all the kind messages ❤️ Goodluck to my [KTM Factory Racing] teammates this weekend.' Sexton's complained of shoulder pain after crashing early in Moto 1 in Pala. He retired from that race and failed to mount up for Moto 2, which means that he failed to earn any points for the round. Neither Sexton nor Red Bull KTM has provided an update on when he will race next, and with a 298-point advantage over the 21st-place cutline in SuperMotocross League points, there is no rush to return. Sexton's odds of defending his Motocross championship will take a huge hit after failing to earn points in the first two rounds, however. Motocross 2025 450 results, highlights, finish at Fox Raceway in Pala: Jett Lawrence sweeps
Eli Tomac pressured the leader throughout Moto 2 at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, but ultimately the result was the same as the past two years: Jett Lawrence led every lap and swept the motos to remain perfect on this track. He has never lost a 450 moto or an overall in either class. With the 1-1 victory over Tomac, Jett has won 16 of 17 Pro Motocross races he's entered in the 450 class. It remains to be seen how soon it will be until someone challenges his dominance. Jett is 15th in the combined SuperMotocross League standings with a 259-point differential to the lead after missing much of the 2025 Supercross season to injury. Click here for a recap of Fox Raceway Tomac also returned from injury ahead of his second-place overall standing in the Fox Raceway Nationals. He had more time on the bike than Jett and fewer questions hovered over his head, but one is not entirely certain of one's strength until the race is run. Tomac finished fourth in the first race and was second in Moto. Tomac was the first rider since Chase Sexton in 2023 to pressure Lawrence deep into a Pala race. The series moves to Hangtown next week, one of Tomac's best courses. Hunter Lawrence carried the theme of dominating after returning from injury. He finished third in the first race and fourth in Moto 2, scoring two fewer points than Tomac. Early indications are that these will be the three riders to watch closest in the Pro Motocross season's first quarter. Hunter moved into the top 20 in combined SuperMotocross points, sitting 18th with a 35-point cushion over the bubble. Relive Moto 1 Many of Aaron Plessinger's best finishes in the first half of the SuperMotocross League season came after the three riders who finished ahead of him departed the Monster Energy Supercross series. The confidence earned in the second half of Supercross carried into Motocross. He nipped Hunter on the last lap to earn a podium in Moto 2. Along with his fourth-place finish in the first race, that put him fourth overall. Justin Cooper also gained a lot of confidence at the end of Supercross. He was on the podium in the first Fox Nationals race with a second-place finish, but failed to back it up. After finishing eighth in Moto 2, Cooper earned 36 points and was scored fifth overall. Just outside the top five, Jorge Prado [7-6] got a solid start in the Pro Motocross season. It is easy to imagine him standing on the podium sometime during the next 20 races. Dan Beaver, The top two Supercross finishers struggled in Pala. Cooper Webb's engine expired before the end of Moto 1, denying him any points. The team replaced virtually everything on the bike, and Webb finished seventh in Moto 2, but he starts the season with a 35-point gap on the leader in Motocross points. Webb maintains the lead in combined SuperMotocross League points by 17 over Chase Sexton. The news was even worse for Sexton. He took a rock to his goggles in Moto 1, discarded them, and eventually crashed with limited visibility from the dust the goggle were intended to block. He was too injured to mount up for Moto 2 and earned zero points for the round. Questions remain as to whether he will be healthy for Hangtown. Motocross betting odds set expectations for Pro Motocross championship
A new season brings fresh betting odds to one of the SuperMotocross League's championship battles, with wagering lines associated with more than a dozen riders. Returning from injury quicker than many athletes, Jett Lawrence returns to traders' attention and, unsurprisingly for a rider who recorded a perfect Pro Motocross season as a rookie, he is the overwhelming favorite with a minus line of -250. This expresses a difference of 581 points over the second-ranked rider, and the respect is well-earned, given that Lawrence has won overall victories in all but one of the 16 Pro Motocross rounds in which he's competed. By comparison, Cooper Webb ended the Supercross season with a nine-point advantage entering the finale and a differential of about 500 points over Chase Sexton. The primary consideration for bettors is whether this line will stabilize quickly or continue to be increasingly punitive. If Lawrence suffers from the lingering effects of his knee injury and fails to win either the season opener at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, this weekend or the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California, there is the potential for traders to amend the line closer toward even to get more juice. Interestingly, Eli Tomac is the second-favored rider in the field at +331. Tomac is also returning, but the nature of his injury is different. Isolating and stabilizing Tomac's broken fibula would presumably be easier than providing additional strength for Lawrence's knee. The real wager between these two is their relative health for the duration of the season. Also, one cannot overlook the head-to-head battle between Tomac and Lawrence in Round 2 of the Monster Energy Supercross season that saw Tomac extend his winning streak to 11 years. Last year's Motocross champion, Chase Sexton (+515), landed fourth on the opening odds chart. He took advantage of the departure of both Jett and Tomac from the lineup on his way to a 42-point victory over Hunter Lawrence. Bettors should not readily discount his odds, however, as Sexton showed greater maturity in 2025's Supercross title match and made far fewer mistakes under pressure than in previous seasons. Hunter (+994) is the only other rider under 10/1 entering Pala and should be considered since he pressured Sexton until the final round last year. The remainder of the field are dark horses with the 2025 Supercross champion launching with a line of 79/1. In his post-race news conference at Salt Lake City, Webb said he was not thinking about the outdoor season. Odds are favorable, he is taking it seriously now. As with Jett and Lawrence, he failed to mount up for all 11 Motocross rounds with an injured thumb. Jorge Prado (+8233) is another attractive dark horse worth some couch cushion money. Injury and an unfamiliarity with stadium dirt bike racing have denied the Spanish rider an opportunity to show his mettle in America. Still, one must not forget that he won the MXGP championships in 2023 and 2024. If he finishes in the top five in both motos in Pala, it is unlikely his odds will remain this attractive. Levi Kitchen, Pro Circuit extend contract though 2027
Levi Kitchen and Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki announced a two-year contract extension that will pair rider and team through the 2027 SuperMotocross League season. Kitchen joined the team in 2024 and finished second to RJ Hampshire in the 250 SX West division that year. Kitchen was one of 12 riders to win in the 250 class in 2025 when he scored the victory in Detroit. His season immediately took a turn the following week when he crashed in the Daytona Supercross race and broke his collarbone and suffered fractures in his upper back. Kitchen would not return to ride Supercross in 2025. Kitchen got back on the bike in early April to prepare for the Pro Motocross season opener next week at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. Last year, Kitchen finished second at Pala. He was second the following week in the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California, before hitting a dry spell in the next four rounds. He overcame that in Spring Creek, Minnesota, and won three of the last five races.
