Texas open Llangollen concert series with Mike Peters tribute
The concert, on June 26, marked the opening of the Pavilion's summer season of live music.
Before launching into one of the band's songs, Spiteri, lead singer and frontwoman of the Scottish rock band, paused to remember the Welsh rocker, who died from blood cancer aged 66 on April 29.
"Before we start this song, the last time I was here with my husband Bryn was with a very special couple and very special man, Mr Mike Peters," she said, prompting a round of applause from the audience.
She went on to say: "He was a true gentleman, a great musician, a great songwriter. He was one of the kindest, truest people that I have to say I've ever met.
"He always wore his heart on his sleeve and will be very sadly missed."
Spiteri, who has been awarded an honorary doctorate for her services to music, then dedicated a rendition of Suspicious Minds to his memory.
She said to the crowd: "If you don't know if the first two chords, go home! Because you need to love this."
Posting on Facebook after the concert, Jules, Mike's wife, said: "Today has been quite the day, topped off by the perfect Sharleen Spiteri tribute tonight to our darling Michael Peters
"Thank you Texas! You Rock!

Principality Stadium confirms roof decision for Oasis Live '25 gigs
Principality Stadium confirms roof decision for Oasis Live '25 gigs The Oasis reuinion gigs are in the Welsh capital on July 4 and 5 and the question of whether the roof will be open or closed has been answered Will it be open or closed? (Image: Huw Evans Picture Agency ) The biggest gig of 2025 is almost here - the opening night of Oasis Live '25 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on July 4. Many who've attended a concert in the Welsh capital, or been to one if it's many major sporting events, will know the beauty of the Principality is its retractable roof. The cauldron of Welsh rugby lends itself to closed-roof gigs, the sound bouncing off the sky-high metal, building up an atmosphere of feverish proportions and a cacophenous space filled with cheers and singing - then on the other hand, the open air option gives the tunes a sense of freedom, a summertime, festival quality - or, like Coldplay back in 2017, the option to put on some fireworks that could be seen beyond the stadium boundary. Oasis fans will be pleased to know that for their opening dates in Cardiff the roof will be closed, as per the fan guide sent out to Ticketmaster customers today (June 27). Earlier on Friday (June 27) the band shared a new clip marking one week to go until the Oasis Live '25 tour starts, showing the Welsh stadium in a state of major preparation. The soundtrack to the clip is the opening bars of Supersonic - Oasis' debut single released in 1994. Sending shivers down the spine of any true Oasis fan, the video shows low key prep is underway with mops and buckets and brushes waiting to be used, before showing rigging being moved around getting the staging area ready for Liam and Noel Gallager, plus rumoured band members, Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, and Joey Waronker. The video then focuses on a number seven seat before it fades to black with the statement "7 days to go." Lewis Capaldi's most memorable moments as star set to make huge comeback at Glastonbury
The Scots singer is rumoured to be taking part in a surprise Glastonbury set tonight so we take a look back on his most memorable appearances. Rumours have been swirling that Lewis Capaldi is set to play a surprise set tonight at Glastonbury which has got so many fans excited. The Scots singer has been taking a break from performing and writing since his last appearance at the festival. His Glastonbury 2023 performance saw him visibly struggling with his Tourette's Syndrome to the point fans had to finish his songs for him. After his set, the 28-year-old announced a break from music and cancelled all of his upcoming gigs to focus on his mental and physical health. Lewis is now rumoured to be making a major return to the Pyramid Stage today at 4.45pm and what better way to do it then to return to give the Glastonbury performance of his dreams that he sadly couldn't manage last time. We take a look back at his most memorable moments in the past that really put a smile on our faces... Mocking Noel Gallagher It all began in 2019 when Noel was being interviewed on Radio X and went on an expletive-filled rant about the state of modern music. During the interview he asked: "Who is this Capaldi fella? Who the f**k is that idiot?" Scottish radio show host Gordon Smart, from Edinburgh, comes to the Someone You Loved star's defence, telling Noel: "I'm going to stand up for him, I think he's funny as f**k. He's a good lad - you'd like him as well." Noel then controversially accused the host of only sticking up for the singer "because you're Scottish." He then goes on to say: "You f****n' Scottish. If they found out Hitler was Scottish they'd go 'aw the wee man was just a wee bit misunderstood'.' The feud between the pair then went on social media before Lewis took to the stage at Glastonbury Festival. Wearing a parka, bucket hat and stylish sunglasses, he swaggered onto the stage poking fun at Noel Gallagher to the sound of "here comes the money". He used the sound to Noel's 'who is this Capaldi fella' interview before strolling around stage dressed as Gallagher himself then stripping down to reveal a T-shirt with his face in a love heart, before launching into his much-anticipated Other Stage set with his hit Grace. And just hours after mocking Noel in front of thousands, Capaldi was pictured posing with Liam backstage. Buckfast moment At the 2020 BRIT Awards, Lewis scooped Best New Artist, the night's first award and left fans in stitches. Hilarious video footage shows the then 23-year-old sauntering up to the stage at London's O2 Arena to accept the gong with a bottle of Red Stripe beer in hand. After embracing BBC Radio 1 DJ, Clara Amfo and music industry pal Niall Horan, a dumbstruck Lewis pointed out to droves of cheering fans before having another gulp of beer. Lewis's chart-topper Someone You Loved then won Song of the Year and this time he took to the stage drinking from a bottle of Buckfast. This time his acceptance speech wasn't muted and he said: "Contrary to popular belief, a lot of people think this song is about my ex-girlfriend who you can now see every night on Love Island. "It was actually about my grandmother who has sadly passed away a few years ago. I hope to God that ITV don't contact her to be on a reality dating TV show." He added: "Thank you so much, this has been the best year of my life. Thanks to my mum and dad for, I don't know, making love, and thanks to my grandmother for eh, dying? I'll see you later." Chewbacca One month after his 2019 Glastonbury entrance which saw him take a swipe at Noel Gallagher, Lewis hilariously trolled Noel again by swaggering onto the stage at TRNSMT dressed as Chewbacca. In a second legendary festival entrance, the Bathgate singer used his slot to mock the Oasis star after he branded Capaldi "'f****** Chewbacca' and told him to 'enjoy his 15 minutes'. He strutted onto the stage draped in a Scotland flag wearing the Star Wars mask. In an explicit rant to Variety magazine, Noel said: " 'F****** Chewbacca should enjoy his 15 minutes. The greatest day of his life that I slagged him off or called him an idiot. 'It's the greatest day of his f***** life so far. He's just thinking, 'Wow!' Well, I know you're Scottish and all that, but f***** hell! It is like a third world country, but for f***'s sake, man, you must have had a better day than this. Surely!' Scottish Beyonce When he released his debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent in 2019, Lewis' billboard got everyone talking. The picture of the billboard, posted on his Instagram, features a picture of Lewis with a bath towel on his head while he wears red glasses and gives the peace sign. There is also a quote from Capaldi where brands himself the Scottish Beyonce. The quote says: "The Scottish Beyonce on a London Underground billboard. Finally famous." THAT tracksuit video One of our favourite Lewis Capaldi moments of all time is the video he shared in his new designer tracksuit Lewis explained on his Instagram that he was given the tracksuit at a recent video shoot and couldn't wait to get home and try it on. He then films himself in a mirror telling his fans how much he loves the 80s-style shell suit. The singer said: 'Spoiler alert: It looks f******* amazing. Send my regards to your genitals. I mean, I look f****** hard as f****** nails'. He adds that the teal, navy and white trackie flatters his midriff as he sticks his stomach out before telling fans what he plans to do with his newfound confidence. Lewis said he would step into the pub and go 'Hello ladies! Do you like pop music, do you? Do you like pop music?' He hilariously acts out a scene at a pub where he is noticed by a group of women before approaching them and asking: 'Ladies! How ye doin'? Can I buy you a drink please?'

Welsh Hollyoaks and Netflix star's lifesaving operation after migraine issue
Welsh Hollyoaks and Netflix star's lifesaving operation after migraine issue Craig Russell had started forgetting things and began suffering from terrible migraines before scans revealed he had a benign tumour in his brain which was the size of a lime and had been there for over a decade Craig Russell and his wife Kate who encouraged him to see a medical professional when he began forgetting things A Welsh actor said he nearly died after a large tumour grew undetected for more than a decade inside his brain. Craig Russell, known for his roles in TV shows such as Hollyoaks and Netflix's Queen Cleopatra, has shared his near-death experience which resulted in him having a deformed skull. Craig, 48, from Cwmtwrch in the Swansea Valleys and now living in Falmouth in Cornwall with his wife Kate, 40, and their two sons Teddy, 10 and Henry, seven, said he first noticed there might be a problem when he began forgetting things and then had migraines in September 2022. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . He then described a harrowing incident where a "whooshing" came from the back of his head when he gave a scream during filming for 2024 film Edge of Summer which he said "nearly caused me to collapse". By January 2023, grappling with deteriorating health, Craig admitted he was "all over the place" until Kate urged him to book an appointment with his GP. During the consultation he recalled how the doctor realised Craig was losing vision in his left eye and swiftly arranged a CT scan. Craig's head after surgery which removed the tumour which was the size of a compressed lime Article continues below Hours after the scan Craig's GP telephoned with unsettling news that they had "found something" within the imagery, prompting an urgent referral for additional MRI examinations towards the end of February 2023. The scans revealed he had a substantial benign tumour within his cranium comparable in dimensions to a compressed lime. Craig said: "It stopped me in my tracks. I never thought it would happen to me." Medics believed, given the size of the tumour, it had probably been developing inside his brain without him knowing for around 15 years. "The tumour got so big it pushed my skull up and out. It deformed the back of my head," he explained. Benign brain tumours can be dangerous even though they are not cancerous because they can still cause serious problems by pressing on and damaging the brain. So Craig underwent a risky operation in March 2023 to remove the mass which could have resulted in blindness or death. Part of his damaged skull was removed and rebuilt using a plastic-concrete mix held in place by bolts and staples in his scalp. Craig underwent a critical seven-hour surgery at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where surgeons removed a section of his skull affected by the tumour. Craig thanked his family for supporting him through a very difficult period in his life Craig recalled: "My surgeon explained my tumour had been growing there for about 15 years and it appeared to have enveloped all the important stuff I needed to survive. There was a very real chance I wouldn't survive the operation because one little mistake and that's it – or at best I could come out blind or have a stroke." Craig, who praised his family and particularly his wife for her "unwavering support", recovered successfully and has since become an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research and a patron for children's charity Joseph's Smile. His most recent film, Protein, which premiered on June 13 this year featuring him in the role of a serial killer with a penchant for cannibalism, was a decade-long project. At one point the actor said it seemed uncertain whether he would survive to witness its release. "Someone asked me if I thought I'd ever see the film finished, which was a sobering idea as I nearly died before it came out," he said. "I'm so glad I was there to see it – I don't know if you can watch movies from the afterlife so I just have a lot of pride for everyone involved. I feel lucky to have had a brain tumour in a way because I've learnt so much about life, people, and resilience." Despite facing post-operative challenges with swelling and fluid build-up around his brain Craig revealed he has fully recovered, attributing his improvement to weight-lifting which encouraged the drainage of fluid. "My head still hurts occasionally but I'm now back to full health," he said. Craig is now an ambassador for the Brain Tumour Charity and called for more funding for research when he appeared in parliament last year He has advocated for increased government funding towards brain tumour research and he has taken on the role of an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research. Advancements in treating meningiomas, the kind of brain tumour Craig endured, may be coming as researchers from the University of Plymouth have pinpointed a significant protein influencing their growth, reports Brain Tumour Research. By targeting the protein scientists managed to decelerate or stop the proliferation of tumour cells in lab environments – a development that Craig described as "a big step forward". Craig's recent film, Protein, which is showing in select cinemas, was particularly poignant for him given the uncertainty over whether he would live to see its premiere. "The fact all that work we did is now being recognised favourably, especially by Mark Kermode, makes me so proud, so happy, and so relieved," he added. "If I had truly listened to my body this would have all been done and dusted years ago – so if you think you've got something wrong please just go and see your doctor." Article continues below Protein is currently screening in select cinemas and is set for digital release on July 14.
