Ranking NFL's Top Offensive Triplets: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Ranking NFL's Top Offensive Triplets: Tampa Bay Buccaneers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In a recent ranking report, a national outlet took a deep dive into the top offensive triplet groups in the league. Advertisement The Tampa Bay Buccaneers come in as the highest-ranked team in the NFC South, and - surprise respect! - the 10th-overall ranked triplet group. Let's dig deeper in to the trio a bit closer … Quarterback Baker Mayfield is entering his third season with the Buccaneers as their starting quarterback. The former Heisman trophy winner, and number one pick in the 2018 NFL draft seems to have found a home in Tampa, and continues to impress. He has thrown for over 8,500 yards in two seasons, and has added 69 touchdowns to his career totals in those two years as well. Mayfield has always shown an aggressive nature when it comes to slinging the football. Former Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Buccaneers, Tom Brady, even said this about Baker Mayfield, Advertisement "Man, he can rip the ball,' Brady has said. Running Back The Buccaneers did not have their leading rusher for the team even slotted into the starting position. Former Oregon Duck running back Bucky Irving surpassed Rachaad White in his rookie season. He would finish tenth in the league, rushing for 1,122 yards, and would take on 8 touchdowns as well. He is definitely prime to have a big sophomore season, especially with all of the weapons that this offense has to spread the field. Wide Receiver Over the last 11 seasons, there have been few wide receivers who have been as productive or consistent in their production than Mike Evans. He posted his 11th consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season in dramatic fashion. Advertisement He is almost certain to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He should be poised for another big season this year with the return of Godwin, and the drafting of Emeka Egbuka. That should open up some windows for Evans to have another big year. A lot of eyes will be on these triplets going into this season to see if they can continue in their productive ways - 'productive' as in top-10 in the NFL. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Boast Crowded Wideout Room Ahead of Training Camp

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Boast Crowded Wideout Room Ahead of Training Camp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had another successful NFL Draft this year, spearheaded by their No. 1 pick, wideout Emeka Egbuka, and several defensive picks after. Advertisement But with the selection of the standout Ohio State wideout, the Buccaneers will have questions when it comes time to cut down to the final 53-man roster ahead of the regular season. senior writer Scott Smith offered his take on how the offseason could play out and who could be the odd man or men out. "This year, if there are no more additions between now and then, the Buccaneers will take 12 receivers into camp, and eight of them were on the 53-man roster at some point last season," Smith wrote. "I think it's pretty safe to pinpoint the four guys who are virtual locks to be on the active roster to start the season: Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan and first-round draft pick Emeka Egbuka. The Buccaneers also drafted Tez Johnson in April, and while seventh-round picks are generally not locks to make the 53-man roster right away, the general consensus is that Johnson may have been something of a steal at that point in the draft. "If he demonstrates the same innate ability to get open and make big plays that he did at Oregon, the team may be leery about exposing him to the waiver wire in order to get him onto the practice squad. Also, he has a very real shot at earning the punt return job, which would be another path to a spot on the 53-man roster." Advertisement Smith continued that while there were a couple of wideouts that impressed last season, it's going to be hard to decide who to add to the surefire four. Sterling Shepard, Kameron Johnson and Trey Palmer, assuming Palmer isn't traded before then, as rumors might indicate, and Ryan Miller and Rakim Jarrett will all be in the mix. Analyst Believes Baker Mayfield Is 'Underpaid' For Buccaneers

Analyst Believes Baker Mayfield Is 'Underpaid' For Buccaneers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Is Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield underpaid? That's the argument writer Tom Blair is making. Advertisement After bouncing around the league for a couple of seasons, the former top overall pick in 2018 found a home with the Buccaneers in 2023. After that first year, Mayfield signed a three-year, $100 million extension with the Buccaneers last offseason. His response? A 4,500-yard, 41-touchdown season that set career-highs in almost every single statistical category for a quarterback. That $100 million looks like a bargain now. And it's exactly why Blair believes Mayfield is one of the most underpaid players in the league. "He undoubtedly should make more than $33.33 million per year, which puts him below Sam Darnold, Geno Smith and Kirk Cousins on the contracts table. And, yes, that APY is roughly $20 million per year less than what Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff and Brock Purdy are receiving. " Blair wrote. Advertisement It's easy to see where Blair is coming from. Baker has more playoff wins as a starter in Tampa than Sam Darnold, Geno Smith, and Kirk Cousins have combined. The fact that Tampa Bay has him under this contract for another two years is a steal for the team. That isn't what the former Browns star is thinking about, though. Following two division titles, Mayfield has established himself as the top quarterback in his division, and one of the best in the conference. Anything less than a Super Bowl title should satisfy him. The money, in this case, is just an added bonus.
