‘Missing' Jay Slater witness Lucy Law, 20, is on holiday in Tenerife where teen died, family reveals after inquest farce

The Sun22-05-2025
"MISSING" Jay Slater witness Lucy Law has finally been tracked down - as her family revealed she is currently on holiday in Tenerife.
The 20-year-old witness was one of the last people to see Jay before he disappeared - and she is now on holiday in the very same place her pal died last summer.

It comes after an inquest into the teen's death was dramatically paused after cops said they were unable to locate Law and other important witnesses.
Apprentice bricklayer Jay travelled to the Spanish island in June to attend the NRG music festival in Playa de las Americas with two friends, Lucy Law and Brad Hargreaves.
The teen travelled to an Airbnb apartment in Masca with two men - including convicted drug dealer Ayub Qassim - in the early hours of June 17, before leaving at around 8am.
Jay, of Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, made a heartbreaking final call to his friend Law saying he had cut his leg, was lost, dehydrated and had just one per cent battery on his phone after he left the Airbnb.
At the opening of the inquest Senior Coroner Dr James Adeley said that Law is among those who could not be tracked down to give evidence.
The inquest was suddenly adjourned before Jay's desperate mum Debbie pleaded for the coroner to do more to summon witnesses including Qassim and the other man Jay went to the Airbnb with, Steven Roccas.
She said: "I know you tried to locate them but how can we ever get any understanding?
"We know he died, we know he had an accident, but from him leaving that holiday resort to going up there.
She desperately pleaded: "We read the statements. There are things that we want to question. We want these people in front of us.
"My son went on holiday and didn't come back so there are questions we need to ask. Please."
Drug dealer Jay Slater stayed with at Airbnb reveals final time he saw teen before he plunged to death in Tenerife
But on Wednesday night, Law's family revealed she was simply on holiday on the very same island where Jay died.
They claimed she was also unaware that she had been called to give evidence at the inquest.
Speaking at the family home in Burnley, Lucy's stepfather Andy Davis said: "We had no idea Jay's inquest was even being held today.
"The police have only just been round today to say that she was due to give evidence. But it's the first time we knew of it."
He added: "They asked if Lucy was home and I said she was abroad and they asked me if I was aware that she should have been in court, and I said I wasn't."
"The police said they had sent Lucy paperwork with the dates on it, but the first I knew about it was when the police turned up earlier today."
Sources in the Slater family later said they were aware where the other missing witnesses were, and had also been able to find them easily, according to the MailOnline.
The family source said: "Lucy is in Tenerife. Another supposedly untraceable witness is on holiday in Greece.

"If we can find this out so quickly why can't the police?"
The court also heard a suggestion that witnesses may be reluctant to appear because drugs may have been involved.
After Jay's body was found, officials said there were traces of cocaine, ecstasy and ketamine in his body.
Dr Adeley said: "When drugs are involved in a death, the witnesses are less than forthcoming and do not wish to speak to the authorities."
Jay 's disappearance and death remain largely cloaked in mystery and it is hoped that glaring gaps in his final movements will be filled after the inquest.
Qassim was previously jailed for nine years in 2015 as the ringleader of a London -based gang dealing heroin and crack cocaine in Cardiff.
He and another Brit previously known only as "Rocky" had rented the Airbnb in the remote Tenerife mountains that they took Jay back to after the festival.
Jay posted a final Snapchat picture of himself smoking on the doorstep of the apartment at 7.30am on June 17 before leaving shortly after.
The inquest heard from three construction workers who said, via video link, they saw Jay on the main road through the remote village of Masca and he asked them about bus times.
He was attempting the treacherous 10-hour walk back to his apartment in Los Cristianos when he called Lucy to say he was lost.
DCI Rachel Higson, head of digital media investigations at Lancashire Police, told the hearing today that Jay's phone recorded "a lot of steps and inclines" between 7.59am and 8.49am.
His mobile last pinged in the mountainous Rural de Teno Park after Jay walked the wrong way from the Airbnb, and DCI Higson said there was "no data recorded" after 8.49:51am.
After a month-long search, Jay's body was found in a ravine on July 15 last year - near to where his phone last pinged.
A post-mortem examination concluded he died of traumatic head injuries, consistent with a fall from height.
Home Office pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd today told the inquest Jay suffered a "heavy fall from height" and the "devastating" effects would have been "immediate".

Thomas Partey on verge of joining Villarreal despite rape charges

Thomas Partey, who is due in court this week to face rape charges, is close to signing for Villarreal. The Spanish club hope to announce a deal, believed to be for one year with the option of a further 12 months, in the next few days. Villarreal will face Partey 's former club Arsenal in a friendly at the Emirates this week. Partey has already passed a medical at the La Liga side with terms being agreed. The 32-year-old is due in court on Tuesday, the day before Arsenal host Villarreal, after being charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Partey was charged on July 4, four days after his contract with Arsenal expired, although the alleged offences took place while he was playing for them. The Ghana international had been the subject of an investigation that started in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape. He will make an initial appearance at Westminster Magistrates Court and denies the charges against him, which relate to three women who reported incidents between 2021 and 2022. Arsenal were in talks to extend the midfielder's career at the club, having joined in 2020 from Atletico Madrid for €50m (£45.4m). Partey went on to make 167 appearances for Arsenal with manager Mikel Arteta suggesting they offered him a new contract because he is a 'really important player for us'. However, no agreement could be reached and Partey left as a free agent, allowing him to join another club without a fee being paid. During Arsenal's recent tour to the Far East and following Partey being charged, Arteta said he was '100 per cent' comfortable with the way that the club handled the case. On the day the charges were announced, they released a statement which noted Partey's contract with them had ended and that, because of 'ongoing legal proceedings', they were 'unable to comment on the case'. Speaking publicly about the matter for the first time, Arteta said on Monday: 'I think the club was very clear in its statement. There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.' It was then put to him: 'A lot of fans have questions over the way in which the matter was handled by the club. Do you feel confident and comfortable that the club followed all the right processes in that?' Arteta answered: '100 per cent, yes.' Villarreal, who played Leeds United last Saturday as they prepare for the new season with a tour of England, have qualified for the Champions League which has clearly been a factor in Partey agreeing to join them who also wanted to return to Spanish football.

Border security loophole allowed Tommy Robinson to leave UK after ‘assault'

Tommy Robinson was able to leave the UK despite being 'wanted' because of a border security loophole, it has emerged. The far-Right activist, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, allegedly assaulted a man at St Pancras station in London last week. Viral footage circulating online depicted the apparent victim lying unresponsive on the floor. Following the incident, the British Transport Police (BTP) said they were making 'arrest inquiries' before later saying a suspect wanted for questioning in connection with the alleged attack had boarded a flight and was no longer in the UK. Robinson, 42, caught a flight from London Stansted to the Spanish island of Tenerife despite being flagged as 'wanted' by police almost five hours earlier. The Sunday Times reported that the far-Right activist was waived through the Ryanair departure gate because the police alert was raised only after he had booked the flight and checked in online – the point at which passenger details are normally run past security watch lists. UK airline officials are not obliged to check whether a traveller is wanted for suspected criminality immediately before embarkation. Footage that went viral in the aftermath of the alleged attack showed Robinson looking agitated, while a man appeared to lie unconscious on the ground at St Pancras, saying: 'He f-----g come at me. He come at me bruv.' As two members of station staff attended to the man, Robinson approached an apparent witness and added: 'He come at me bruv, you saw that.' Last Monday, Robinson had been in the area to hand out leaflets to promote a 'free speech' rally he is planning to host in central London on Sept 13. The alleged assault occurred near a Thameslink platform which runs to Luton, where Robinson has a family home. It has been reported that Robinson's supporters claim that he had planned a trip abroad well in advance of the alleged assault at St Pancras. The Sunday Times said he was due to travel to Tenerife last Wednesday morning, but he moved the flight forward by 24 hours. A BTP spokesman said: 'Following a report of an assault at St Pancras station on July 28, officers have confirmed that the suspect, a 42-year-old man from Bedfordshire, boarded a flight out of the country in the early hours of the morning. 'Detectives are continuing to work closely to progress the investigation and bring him into custody for questioning.'

Dele Alli looking for new club after being told he is not in Como's plans

Dele Alli has been told he no longer features in the plans of Serie A side Como and is looking for a new club. The 29-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder did not travel with his team-mates to Marbella, Spain for a pre-season camp and has reportedly been training instead at Como's base in Mozzate, northern Italy, with other players who have been advised their futures lie elsewhere. Reports in Italy suggesting that he is considering retirement are understood to be wide of the mark, with Dele keen to continue rebuilding his career at a new team. Dele joined Como, who are coached by the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, in January on an 18-month contract after his release by Everton. He has struggled with fitness issues but returned as a substitute in March, during an away game at AC Milan, after more than two years without a competitive appearance. However, he was sent off ten minutes into his return for a challenge on his former England team-mate, Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Dele initially received a yellow card which was upgraded to a red after a VAR review. When the referee, Matteo Marchetti, eventually showed Dele the red card, Milan's Kyle Walker, who played with Dele for both England and Tottenham, pleaded with the official not to send him off. That match has proven to be Dele's one and only appearance for Como. Dele's previous competitive appearance came for Besiktas in February 2023. He had moved to the Turkish club on loan from Everton, but the deal was impacted by injury. That summer, he checked into a rehabilitation centre in the United States, in an effort to overcome an addiction to sleeping pills. JONATHAN MOSCROP/GETTY IMAGES In July 2023, he spoke bravely about the childhood traumas that had later impacted his career and his life in a raw interview with The Overlap. He revealed that, as a child, he had been sexually abused and that at the age of eight, he had been dealing drugs. Dele expressed his ambition to return to playing and confirmed he was receiving off-field support. He spent six weeks in the United States and returned to Everton, where he continued his rehabilitation from a groin injury. His contract expired in July 2024, although he continued to train with the club as he worked his way back to full fitness. Dele began his career at MK Dons and then spent seven years at Tottenham, where he made 269 appearances and scored 67 goals. He has been capped 37 times by England, scoring three goals.
