Brian Austin Green Says Dating Megan Fox After Ex Vanessa Marcil Was 'a Breath of Fresh Air Coming Out of Vietnam'
Brian Austin Green shared that he and ex Vanessa Marcil didn't have 'a loving, caring relationship."
The actor said meeting Megan Fox was 'a breath of fresh air' after 'coming out of what felt like Vietnam to me,' referring to his time with Marcil.
The 'Beverly Hills, 90210' also addressed claims that he "groomed" Fox after the two began dating when she was 18 and he was 31.
Brian Austin Green is diving deep into his relationship history — and why his romance with ex Vanessa Marcil didn't end up working out.
During the May 5 episode of his Oldish podcast with fiancée Sharna Burgess and Randy Spelling, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum, 51, shared how his mother's tendency of "smothering him" affected his romantic relationships as an adult.
"If I'm looking for a woman, I want the complete opposite of that," he explained. "I had some major missteps because of that. I mean, the relationship that I had with Vanessa was very toxic in that way. Like, it wasn't a loving, caring relationship."
Though he recognizes how much his mother "loved me," Green noted that his mother's love was given to him at "a fault."

"Just everything was about me," he said. "And then with Vanessa, it was not that at all, but it was masked in. This is a relationship where that absolutely exists. So you start thinking like, 'Oh, it's just kind of a new version. Like, oh, she loves me, but this is her way of loving me.'"
At first, Green claimed that he believed Mercil was "trying to help me and fix me and get me through things," but "after two years or so, you're kinda looking at yourself in the mirror and you're like, 'Who am I at this point?'"
Eventually, he couldn't recognize himself. Green claimed that his relationships with everyone in his life had changed.
"So that relationship ended up not working out. Then Megan [Fox], she was a breath of fresh air, coming out of what felt like Vietnam to me," he said of the beginning of his relationship with his ex- wife.

PEOPLE has reached out to Marcil's reps for comment.
Green and Marcil first started dating in the late 1990s after meeting on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210, and got engaged in the summer of 2001. They welcomed son Kassius on March 30, 2002, though they split not long after, in 2003.
The next year, Green met Fox while filming ABC's Hope & Faith, at the time, he was 31 when she was 18 years old. They began dating shortly after and later got married in 2010, eventually welcoming three children: sons Noah Shannon, Bodhi Ransom and Journey River.
Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Green also addressed claims that he "groomed" Fox early in their relationship because of their near 13-year age gap. Before explaining how the two met, the actor revealed that Fox was the on who "courted" him and spend lots of time trying to convince him she was "mature enough" to be in a relationship.

"When I met her, she was not even 18 yet. So it was just like, this isn't even a conversation to have," he recalled. "She was really, really persistent. She had turned 18. She decided they'd finished doing Hope and Faith, so she moved back to Los Angeles. And she would not take no for an answer."
Green added that Fox's insistence is a part of "who she is," revealing how there's "not stopping her" once she gets her mind on something. At one point, he shared that Fox was at her wits end and "seemed like she had given up" on trying to pursue him.

"Like now, looking back on it, I think it was part of the tactic because she's so incredibly smart," he joked. "But she got to a place where she was like, 'Okay, well, I'm just gonna like move on then, and I'm gonna start dating other people.' And I was like, 'Woah.'"
Green recalled, "So that was when I was like, 'Oh no, okay, let's just kinda see what this is.' And we got along great. Like, it was really, again, it was a breath of fresh air for me."

How 'Will Trent' star Ramón Rodriguez became an industry game-changer
ABC's "Will Trent" is no ordinary police procedural. "There's a thousand cop shows," said Ramón Rodriguez, who portrays the show's main character, Will Trent. "How do you make this one stand out?" The broadcast drama series, which also airs on Hulu, centers special agent Trent: a dapper investigator whose instinctual crime-solving skills render him essential to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. But beneath the three-piece suit, there's a more complex side to Trent, who navigates the residual trauma from being abandoned at birth and growing up in the Atlanta foster care system. He is also dyslexic. "One of the exciting things when I came onto the show was not knowing where this character was from," said Rodriguez, 45. "Trent was very much [written as] a colorless character." Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Rodriguez greeted me on a Zoom call from his present home in Southern California, while wearing a New York Knicks cap. Before "Will Trent," he previously played the first main Hispanic character on the HBO series "The Wire," and appeared in films such as 2009's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "G20," a thriller featuring Viola Davis, which premiered April 10 on Amazon Prime Video. Since the 2023 premiere of "Will Trent," Rodriguez has molded his beloved character in many ways; he's a hard-nosed detective with a mushy side, which is most evident in scenes with his pocket-sized chihuahua named Betty. Based on Karin Slaughter's New York Times-bestselling novel series "Will Trent," showrunners Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen organically tailored the titular role to reflect Rodriguez's real-life Puerto Rican identity. It's a major win for Latinos in an industry that otherwise lacks Latino-led programming. "Once we run out of feeling fresh, creative, excited and inspired, then I think we start phoning it in," said Rodriguez. "But that's something I'm not interested in and I know my partners aren't either." Rodriguez has taken on roles behind the camera as well. He directed "I'm a Guest Here," the first episode of Season 3, which wrapped earlier this month; he was also named an executive producer. "I really wanted to be a part of the creative collaboration of creating this character in this show," said Rodriguez. When Season 3 dropped a bombshell regarding Trent's biological father, it paved the way for a nail-biting Season 4, which was confirmed earlier this year. This interview has been edited and shortened for clarity. It also reveals Season 3 spoilers. In the books, Will Trent isn't Puerto Rican, but this series is peeking into your own Puerto Rican identity. What are your thoughts on that? It was a topic that they were curious about exploring. Where does Will come from as an orphan who grew up in the foster care system? Identity becomes a focal point for someone like that. Again [him being Puerto Rican] isn't in the books, which is kind of exciting. We've been able to separate and say that the books are the books. It wasn't something that we were trying to sort of check a box and say, "Great, Will's heritage is Puerto Rican." It was a very organic explanation of this character discovering who he is. When you were cast for the lead, did you ever picture the show as what it is today? You never know what's gonna work and why it's gonna work. You don't have control of a lot of things in this business. The one thing I do have control over is my work, what I can bring to it, what I try to do. This is the first time I've been on a show that's gone on for this long from the pilot. If you would've asked me that, is this gonna be the show that goes past one season? I probably would've said, "I don't think so." And it's nothing against the show, you just don't know. It took a minute for me to be fully convinced, but I'm so grateful that they were willing to continue having conversations with me and that they were really willing to have me on as a partner because that was important to me. It doesn't feel like the show hinges on those elements of identity. Why is it important to keep that balance in this procedural show? [Solving cases is] another aspect of the show that I know audiences love. I just think the things that tend to pull our hearts to the things that are emotional and personal things, what someone's struggling with or how are they overcoming it. In Season 3, we have a really pivotal moment where Will accidentally shoots a bad guy, but ends up killing a young boy by accident. That case ended up changing the rest of the season — he was not able to recover from that event of having the boy die in his arms. That was Episode 11 and that will likely go into Season 4. Your dog Betty also shines in Season 3. We get to hear her voice for the first time which happens during a fun hallucination scene. What was it like to film that episode? That was two episodes after this tragic episode I just described, which is crazy, right? We wanted to mix levity and humor with our heavy drama and emotional stuff. So as Will was entering this case that involved a cult, he gets caught undercover and in that process he gets drugged. Liz Heldens, one of our showrunners, had been dying to find a way to get me to dance on this show, and I was like "Listen: Will Trent is an awkward individual, he's not someone that's out here dancing." She was like, "Well, what if that's a hallucination?" I was like, "That's brilliant!" Anything can happen while he's tripping. I remember I was walking on set and one of our production assistants, Tim, had read the script and said, "What if Betty talks?" So I pitched that to Liz and she topped it and went, "Well, what if Betty's British?" You made your directorial debut in Season 3. How was that experience for you? I felt like a kid in a candy store. By Season 3, I really understood the character and what works with our show, where our strengths are. I just got to be me in certain scenes, because at the start of the [third] season Will has left the [Georgia Bureau of Investigation], he's got a beard and he's in a T-shirt, jeans and curly hair. It was also fun to direct new cast members. We introduced Gina Rodriguez, who played Marion Alba, and Antwayn Hopper, who played Rafel Wexford. Which was really fun. I'd be like: "No notes." [Laughs.] Will you be directing in Season 4? I will definitely be directing at least one episode next season. It makes the most sense for me to direct the premiere as I did this past season. I love that pressure of having to set the bar for a season. What can audiences expect for the upcoming season? We're about to begin these serious conversations. There were some pretty serious cliffhangers at the end of Season 3, where we find out Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen) is pregnant, and Will is definitely not the father, so that's gonna be something to explore. Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn), who is a maternal figure for Will, is in the hospital bed. We just discovered his dad, [Sheriff Caleb Roussard], which we don't know too much about, so I'd want to know more about the character and what happened with the mom. There's just so many questions that we will get to explore — I mean, is there new love in Will's life? Get our Latinx Files newsletter for stories that capture the complexity of our communities. Did Prince William Just Hint at His Rift with Prince Harry in Rare Family Comment?
Prince William weighed in on the complications of family dynamics at his latest royal engagement The Prince of Wales spoke about how family can be a "mixed bag" while meeting soldiers in his role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps William made the quip amid a deep rift with his brother Prince Harry, as royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith tells PEOPLE in this week's issue that "the underlying issue is trust" Prince William may have subtly acknowledged his strained relationship with his brother, Prince Harry, during a recent royal outing. On June 4, the Prince of Wales opened up about how family can be a "mixed bag" while visiting the Army Air Corps in Wattisham, Suffolk. Prince William, 42, toured the regiments for the first time as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, a high-profile role previously believed to have been earmarked for Prince Harry before he stepped back from his royal role in 2020. During a conversation with soldiers on a water break from combat training, William brought up the topic of family in a moment that some royal watchers saw as pointed. According to the Daily Mail, the heir to the throne asked: "'Is the pace of life good at the moment [?]" After one man replied that it was "a mixed bag," William said, "Families okay? See you enough? Some of them might not want to see you that much. It's a mixed bag sometimes." However lighthearted or serious William's quip may have been, he offered the comment at an interesting time. The Prince of Wales' visit to the Army Air Corps was meaningful as his first visit to the regiments as honorary colonel, a position King Charles held for 32 years and appointed William to in August 2023 in a reshuffling of royal roles following his accession to the throne. The move made waves as William became the leader of his estranged brother Harry's former regiment. Prince Harry, 40, trained as an Army Air Corps pilot in 2009 and served with the combat aviation arm of the British Army during his second tour in Afghanistan from 2012 to 2013. It was widely thought that Harry would take over the prestigious role of Colonel-in-Chief one day, but the Duke of Sussex was forced to relinquish his military appointments when he and Meghan Markle departed their royal roles a few years ago. A distance continues between King Charles' sons amid an ongoing rift that first became public when Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Their relationship further fractured as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spoke out in several interviews and released their Netflix docuseries, while a bombshell of Prince Harry's memoir Spare alleged a physical altercation with William. While Prince William remains estranged from his brother and sister-in-law, some royal observers say that the King, 76, should make the first move to help heal the broken bonds — though hesitation reigns behind closed doors. "The underlying issue is trust," royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith tells PEOPLE in this week's exclusive cover story. "The King and William don't trust Harry and Meghan with any kind of confidential conversation." Prince William and Prince Harry last appeared in public together with their wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan, to greet mourners who gathered at Windsor Castle following Queen Elizabeth's death in September 2022. Can't get enough of PEOPLE's Royals coverage? to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more! The brothers kept their distance at the King's coronation in May 2023, where William prominently paid homage to his father and Harry immediately left after the ceremony to return to California for his son Prince Archie's 4th birthday. Prince William and Prince Harry were most recently in the same place at the same time for the memorial service honoring their late uncle Robert Fellowes in Norfolk in August, but reportedly didn't cross paths. 'William and Harry were both there, but we never saw them speak to each other, and they were keeping their distance," an attendee told The Sun. Meanwhile, the Duke of Sussex recently told the BBC he "can't see a world" where he would bring Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the U.K. after losing a legal appeal to restore the state-funded police protection he lost after departing royal duties in 2020. Olivia Munn Reveals She Had To Take a ‘Scary' Risk in Order To Try for a Baby Girl
Having another baby is always a big choice, but for Olivia Munn, it came with a medical risk as well. She just revealed that she wanted a baby girl so much that she had to take a 'scary' risk to get her — and her husband John Mulaney was fully supportive. In a cover interview with PEOPLE, the Your Friends & Neighbors star opened up about her decision to expand her family after going through a breast cancer diagnosis in April 2023 and having multiple surgeries. Because her aggressive breast cancer was influenced by hormones, she worried that pregnancy, or even egg retrieval, would increase her chance of a recurrence. More from SheKnows Meghan Markle Shares Rare New Photos of Princess Lilibet - & She Is Dad Prince Harry's Mini-Me 'What happens if I can't carry?' Munn recalled thinking before welcoming daughter Méi, 8 months, via surrogate. 'There were all these unknowns, but I knew where I wanted to go: alive on the other side, healthy, energetic, with a baby on the way.' In between a double mastectomy and having her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries removed, Munn had 'a window' to do an egg retrieval to try for a baby via surrogate. 'It was important to do it at that moment, but it was also scary because my type of cancer feeds on hormones, and there are a lot of hormone injections with IVF,' she told the outlet. Regardless, she decided to go for it. Munn went through a special IVF protocol for cancer patients, and doctors were able to retrieve seven eggs. Two were 'strong enough to be tested for abnormalities and the gender,' Munn explained. Still, she said she wanted a baby girl so badly that she was willing to go through it all again, despite the risk. 'I remember I was on a walk with John, and I said, 'I really don't think that I'll be okay unless we get two girl embryos. I know this puts me at risk, but I just need you to support me,'' Munn, who also shares 3-year-old son Malcolm with Mulaney, recalled. 'He said, 'Whatever you need.'' We love that Mulaney was super supportive of this move! Later that day, the doctors revealed that they had two healthy female embryos. 'That was a sign for me everything was going to be okay,' Munn said. Now, she is at peace. 'I'm so grateful to be on the other side. Everything feels easy in a way,' the Hit-Monkey star added. 'I feel so at peace. If I can stay happy and healthy, then I just want to sail into the rest of my life.' In Oct. 2024, Munn shared a heartfelt post reflected on her life now. 'This time last year I was recovering from my fourth surgery and now I'm hanging with my baby girl. 🥹💕,' Munn captioned a photo of her and her daughter. Munn's motherhood journey has been tougher than most so far, and we are so happy for her that she finally gets to heal and enjoy her wonderful babies. She's a true testament to the strength of moms!
