Cause of death revealed for fertility clinic bombing suspect

Daily Mail18 hours ago

The man who supplied the Palm Springs fertility clinic bomber with the ammunition used in the attack reportedly died after jumping from an upper level of the prison. Daniel Park, 32, was found unresponsive inside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles about 7.30am Tuesday morning.
According to TMZ, he stepped up onto a table on an upper tier of the detention center and jumped off the balcony, plummeting to the ground floor. It is unclear how many stories he fell. Prison authorities attempted to save his life and he was rushed to hospital, where he was later declared dead.
Park (pictured), of Seattle, Washington, was accused of supplying 180lbs of explosives to Guy Edward Bartkus, the bomber who died in the May 17 explosion at the American Reproductive Centers. Park was taken into custody at New York's JFK Airport by the FBI and Port Authority Police on June 3 following the explosion. He had been deported back to the US from Warsaw, Poland. He was a US citizen, though it is unclear if he has any connections to Poland, US District Attorney Bilal A Essayli said.
Bartkus (pictured), the primary suspect and man accused of setting off the bomb , was killed in the explosion after a silver Ford Fusion sedan erupted. Earlier this month, FBI director Akil Davis said the agency discovered that Park shipped six packages of ammonium nitrate - a chemical compound found in bombs - from Washington State to Bartkus in California. Park was also 'in possession of a similar recipe' that was used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, Davis said.
Davis described both Park and Bartkus as members of the anti-natalist movement, a group that 'don't believe people should exist' and people should not continue to procreate. The FBI believes the two were conducting experiments in a garage in Twentynine Palms - a large US Marine Corps base that Bartkus lived in. At least five others were injured in the incident, which authorities called an 'intentional act of terrorism.'
The bomb recipe that Park was in possession of was similar to that of the Oklahoma City bombing - where Timothy McVeigh, a former Army soldier and security guard, set off a powerful bomb inside a rented truck in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City. A total of 168 people were killed, including 19 children. Several hundred more injured. In his writings, IVF clinic bomber Bartkus allegedly said he was 'pro-mortalist', something he described as someone who intends to bring on their own death as soon as possible 'to prevent your future suffering, and, more importantly, the suffering your existence will cause to all the other sentient beings.'
He also recorded a 30-minute-long audio clip explaining why he 'decided to bomb an IVF building, or clinic.' 'I figured I would just make a recording explaining why I've decided to bomb an IVF building, or clinic. Basically, it just comes down to I'm angry that I exist and that, you know, nobody got my consent to bring me here,' he said. Bartkus also said he was 'angry' that IVF clinics exist, adding: 'These are people who are having kids after they've sat there and thought about it. How much more stupid can it get?' He is suspected of setting off a large vehicle-borne improvised explosive device outside of the clinic, which performs IVF treatments, egg collections and other procedures, according to his website.
Authorities found an AK-47 and an AR-Style rifle, as well as ammunition next to the burnt vehicle, the LA Times reported. He allegedly tried to film the terror attack by setting up a tripod with a camera beforehand, but the file failed to upload to his website, according to BNO News. On the day of the attack, FBI officials raided his home and evacuated the neighborhood over fears it was a 'blast zone.' At the time, Davis said the agency was running the investigation, but did not specify if the raid was connected to the fatal explosion.
Following the powerful explosion, Davis confirmed it was a terror attack. 'Make no mistake: This is an intentional act of terrorism,' Davis said during an evening news conference. Multiple witnesses reported hearing a loud boom, and dramatic videos shared on social media show the explosion shattered windows of a nearby liquor store. Dr. Maher Abdallah, who operates the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic, confirmed to The Associated Press that his facility was among the properties damaged in the blast. He said all staff members were safe and accounted for. The explosion impacted the office area used for patient consultations but did not harm the IVF laboratory or any of the stored embryos.

Shock as fans find 'photo' circulating of Guy Sebastian with a black eye after being 'arrested'

A fake photo of Guy Sebastian with a black eye went viral on social media on Monday. The Australian singer, 43, was seen with a swollen and bruised eye in an image that was either Photoshopped or generated using AI technology. While the picture was clearly fake, many Reddit users questioned why they were seeing the image online. 'Anyone else getting spammed with weird fake Guy Sebastian news story ads?' one person asked. 'I wonder how they choose what celeb to target. Someone enough people know to maybe be interested, but not know well enough to know it's bullsh*t,' another wrote. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'He's in a legal battle with his former manager. So I think a PR campaign against him would check out,' another person joked. It comes after Guy recently recalled the time he was held at gunpoint by multiple police officers in Los Angeles for suspicion of grand theft auto. The Australian singer said a knee was placed on his body while a gun pressed his face into 'wet concrete'. During an interview on Nova's Smallzy's Surgery with Kent 'Smallzy' Small in April, Guy recounted his terrifying ordeal. The incident, which occurred in 2011 when Guy was living and working in the United States at age 29, was confirmed by his management to Sydney Morning Herald at the time. 'I was living at Ian Thorpe's house in LA. I was just renting it for a while,' the singer began. 'I parked my car there, literally in the driveway, and I came back and it was gone.' Guy told radio host Smallzy his car - 'bought on eBay' - was illegally towed by a dodgy company and taken to an undisclosed location without telling him. The company was attempting to exploit a loophole in the law, which allowed them to sell impounded cars if they were not claimed by the owner within three months. 'Police told me the car had been taken by a tow company. So I'm going from tow company to tow company, over three or four weeks,' Guy said. 'Eventually I went to the police for the third time, after I'd been to 20 or 30 tow companies. I said it's a needle in a haystack. So they marked it as stolen which alerted the tow company. 'I go to pick it up and they charge me $4,000USD. It's a scam that they do.' Guy had been renting the Australian Olympic swimmer's two-bedroom hideaway in the Hollywood Hills, located behind West Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard. Upon picking up his car from the impound lot, Guy called police to notify them that the car was no longer missing or stolen. After 45 minutes of being left on hold, Guy decided to drive to a local car wash while he waited to speak to police. 'I pick up this car. It's all damaged from the tow thing. I'm livid. I hop in this car and head down to the car wash because the sheriff is up the road,' he continued. 'I thought, "Bugger it, I'll go there after I wash this car". Didn't think anything of it. One police car pulls up in the next wash bay. 'I'm still on the phone to the sheriff and I see another one pulls up. Next minute there's eight or nine cops with their guns drawn, screaming: "SHUT UP AND GET ON THE GROUND!"' The car was still showing in the police system as stolen, as Guy had yet to get through to change that status. 'I'm on Bluetooth in my car and one cop pulls the phone out and throws the phone, smashing it. It was like a movie,' Guy said, able to laugh about the incident now. Guy attempted to notify officers that it was a misunderstanding and that he had the correct paperwork on the front seat and was on hold to police, but they refused to let him talk. 'He actually had the gun pressed into my forehead. It was full on. I could feel the metal of the gun,' Guy said, as another officer apparently told him to 'relax'. 'I was telling them it's my car. They wouldn't hear it. They put me in cuffs, pushing my face into this wet concrete.' Guy said he was eventually let go after his paperwork was checked and cleared, and said he understood why the police needed to act the way they did.

Idaho shooting latest: Two dead after sniper opens fire on firefighters and police during wildfire emergency

Two people have been fatally shot while responding to a brush fire in a mountain community near Coeur d'Alene, in the western US state of Idaho. Officials say the victims were likely firefighters ambushed as they tackled the blaze on Canfield Mountain. The assailants, possibly using high-powered rifles, remain hidden in dense brush and continue firing from multiple positions, law enforcement officials said. Idaho governor, Brad Little, said 'multiple heroic firefighters' were attacked while responding to the fire. 'This is a heinous direct assault on our brave firefighters,' he wrote on Facebook. 'I ask all Idahoans to pray for them and their families as we wait to learn more.' Authorities say it's still unclear how many shooters were involved, but they are believed to be firing from multiple hidden positions in dense brush. Firefighting efforts have, meanwhile, stalled due to the ongoing threat, and authorities have issued a shelter-in-place order for the residents. Local, state, and federal agencies, including the FBI, are responding to the fire.

Two dead as firefighters ambushed in 'heinous' sniper attack

At least two people have died after firefighters were ambushed in a "heinous" sniper attack during a job. The victims, thought both to be fire service personnel, were attacked at Canfield Mountain just north of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, as assailants hid in rugged terrain. Police dashed to the scene and were instructed to fire back at the thugs, who were using high-powered rifles in ugly scenes, for which a motive has not yet been identified. Idaho's Governor Brad Little said: "This is a heinous direct assault on our brave firefighters. I ask all Idahoans to pray for them and their families as we wait to learn more." Armed police and other highly trained units have arrived on scene in Idaho. The FBI and US Forest Service are also actively involved in the response. #BREAKING: Heavily armored and highly trained police units have arrived on scene in Idaho. The FBI, DHS, and U.S. Forest Service are also actively involved in the response. Firefighters were ambushed by sniper fire while responding to a blaze in a northern Idaho mountain community Sunday, killing at least two people. The horror unleashed barrages of gunfire over several hours in an attack the governor called a "heinous" assault. The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said crews responded to a fire at Canfield Mountain just north of Coeur d'Alene around 1:30 p.m., and gunshots were reported about a half hour later. Sheriff Bob Norris said officials believe the two people killed were fire personnel. He didn't know if anyone else was shot. 'We don't know how many suspects are up there, and we don't know how many casualties there are," Norris told reporters at a news conference. "We are actively taking sniper fire as we speak."
