Ohio State basketball announces complete nonconference schedule
Ohio State breaks the seal on the season at home against IU Indy on Nov. 3 and has two more home games on Nov. 7 (Purdue Fort Wayne) and Nov. 11 (Appalachian State) before welcoming Notre Dame to Value City Arena on Nov. 16 as a part of a home-and-home. All told, the Buckeyes play five Power Five opponents, with the games at home against the Fighting Irish, and contests away from the Schottenstein Center against Pitt on the road and at neutral sites against West Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia.
It's a daunting nonconference slate, one the Buckeyes hope will prepare them to be battle tested for a postseason run in March.
Here's a look at the complete nonconference schedule for the Ohio State men's basketball team for the 2025-2026 season.
The Big Ten schedule will be announced at a later date, but the conference has already unveiled the opponents Ohio State will play in conference. The Buckeyes will play Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin in a home-and-home, and all other teams just once.

Kalen DeBoer updates status of two injured Alabama starting linemen
According to head coach Kalen DeBoer, a pair of starting Alabama Crimson Tide linemen have missed the program's second consecutive scrimmage of fall camp. Those players are offensive guard Jaeden Roberts and defensive tackle James Smith, both of which are dealing with injuries leading up to Alabama's season opener at Florida State on Saturday, Aug. 30, according to DeBoer. DeBoer also recently gave an update on the status of both following the Crimson Tide's scrimmage Saturday, saying of the duo: "Two guys that didn't scrimmage today, Jaeden and James, same as last week," DeBoer said. "James has been working through and building up. Feel good about the progress he's had in the week of practice and with it being live. Needed to hold back there, but he's getting closer by the day." "Jaeden has a concussion, just to tell you what it is, and he's going through the protocol of that and hasn't done anything from a team standpoint. Starting to work back into that protocol, which included being out there today, but not to participate in the scrimmage." A storyline to monitor leading up to Week 1, if Roberts is unavailable for the season opener, then Geno VanDeMark would likely step into the starting role at right guard. If Smith is unavailable, then names such as Jeremiah Beaman and Edric Hill could see increased snaps at defensive tackle. Alabama will open the 2025 season Saturday, Aug. 30 on the road at Florida State. 2025 Big Ten football favorite is not clear or unanimous
The Big Ten has in recent years been the best conference in college football. Ohio State enters this season with loads of NFL talent including safety Caleb Downs and arguably the best player in college football, receiver Jeremiah Smith. The drawback with Ohio State is the uncertainty at the quarterback position; the USC Trojans might have them beat in that category. Penn State enters this season with a fierce defense, a dominant run game, and a top quarterback in college football with Drew Allar. Penn State has the more well-rounded team, but Ohio State's talent and coach Ryan Day make the Buckeyes a tough matchup for any team they could face. With Ohio State coming off a national championship victory and Penn State being more improved, the Big Ten football season is extremely hard to predict for experts. Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports analyzes the uncertainty surrounding who will be the Big Ten champion in a recent feature. "One notable swap from the Coaches Poll finds a change atop the Big Ten. Coaches went with Ohio State, the defending national champions, at No. 2 behind the Longhorns; the media went with Penn State, believing in the Nittany Lions' clearer situation on offense and greater degree of carryover from last season. The Nittany Lions received 23 first-place votes in the AP poll - just two behind Texas. Another advantage for PSU is the addition of former OSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. Clearly, coaches and the media believe both teams are good enough to win the Big Ten and deliver the league's third national championship in a row." Both teams have what it takes to win the Big Ten crown. It is easy to assume that both teams will make the College Football Playoff. With the Trojans' luck, they do not have to face either team. Uncertainty at the top of the Big Ten could bode well for the Trojans; they are coming into this season with a lot of doubts about how successful they will be. If the Trojans can take care of business in conference play and beat rival Oregon -- their toughest Big Ten matchup on the schedule -- they could earn a bid to face one of the Big Ten juggernauts in the Big Ten title game. USC could also solidify itself as a playoff team. There is no doubt the USC Trojans have a lot of talent on the roster this season, but there is just as much uncertainty regarding where they finish.

Nebraska football in the mix for four-star defensive lineman Jamar Thompson
Nebraska football is making a firm push for class of 2027 four-star defensive lineman Jamar Thompson. This was reported by Rivals' Marcus Benjamin on Friday. Thompson is the No. 101 overall player in the 2027 class, the seventh overall defensive lineman in the class, and the ninth overall player from the state of Florida in his class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, and Syracuse are the schools that are standing out most in his recruitment. The Huskers have been in communication with Thompson quite a bit lately. Defensive line coach Terry Bradden has been the primary point of contact for the Huskers. Thompson had 66 tackles and four sacks in 15 games last season, per statistics from The Huskers could benefit from more talented defensive linemen, and Thompson certainly brings a strong skill set. Playing under Bradden could only help him further enhance his game. The program will have to work cut out for them in this recruitment.
