Authorities in San Bernardino County announced that a man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred while he was under the influence.
A San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department media release states that the crash occurred just before 1 a.m. on April 19.
When first responders got to the location, Bear Valley Road west of Mesa View Drive, they found a deceased man.
He was identified as 32-year-old Wilian Castro Vargas of Victorville.
'It was determined [Vargas] was struck by an unknown vehicle,' SBSD said. 'It was learned the suspect vehicle drove west on Bear Valley Road [and] the front-end of the vehicle struck the pedestrian as they crossed the roadway.'
Further investigation into the hit-and-run led to the identification of a suspect: David Shynovick, 59, of Phelan.
Shynovick was arrested after the Victorville Police Department and SBSD served a warrant at his home.
'Following an extensive investigation, investigators learned David Shynovick drove a 2013 Chevy Impala when he hit and killed Wilian Castro Vargas,' officials said. 'Investigators collected evidence indicating Shynovick was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage at the time of the crash.'
He was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for murder and felony hit-and-run, according to SBSD.
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Deputy J. Tomasello or Deptuy R. Anselm at the Victorville Police Station, 760-241-2911. 3 killed in crash involving motorcyclist fleeing Southern California police

Three people in San Bernardino County, including two uninvolved people, were killed in a crash involving a motorcyclist reportedly attempting to flee sheriff's deputies, authorities confirmed to KTLA. The tragic incident unfolded at around 10:30 a.m. when deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcyclist for reckless driving in Redlands. 'The driver of the motorcycle did not yield and fled from the deputies,' SBSD Public Information Officer Mara Rodriguez said in a statement to KTLA. 'The motorcycle driver collided [with] a vehicle on Redlands Boulevard near Tennessee Street.' All three individuals involved in the crash were declared deceased. In footage of the crash aftermath, what appears to be a black Toyota Prius is seen overturned in the street with a large number of deputies and medical personnel from the fire department at the scene. Debris from the crash littered the street and it appeared that items from inside the Toyota Prius had spilled out of the vehicle, either as a result of the impact or when crews extracted the victims. While the intersection was cordoned off as investigators worked at the scene, it's unclear where the motorcycle came to a stop after the high-speed crash. SBSD officials did not say whether deputies initiated a pursuit of the motorcycle driver, only that they attempted a traffic stop. Additionally, no information was provided on the ages or genders of those killed in the violent collision. PIO Rodriguez said that investigators with the California Highway Patrol are conducting an investigation into the incident. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 35-year-old arrested in early morning crime spree including stolen bus

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls man was arrested after a spree of crimes were reported throughout the city Friday. Kenneth Holland, 35, was arrested on many charges, including escape and fleeing police. The crimes occurred throughout Sioux Falls, according to Sioux Falls Police Department spokesman Sam Clemens. Kalen DeBoer to talk youth sports at Sanford Sports Night Clemens said police responded to the 3900 block of South Terry Avenue early Friday morning, around 5:15 a.m., for a report of an attempt to steal a car. Upon arrival to the scene, police found keys to a car on the ground. Police found the owner of the keys and they told police the keys were inside the apartment and the apartment was left unlocked. Later on Friday, a car was found on fire near the 1600 block of South Cleveland Avenue. The same car that left the apartment complex earlier was on fire, Clemens said. At a nearby convenience store, another report came of a stolen vehicle, a Chevy Impala. That same vehicle was seen in multiple locations in central Sioux Falls. The driver of the stolen Impala was last seen with the car running at another convenience store on South Minnesota Avenue. Nearby, a Sioux Area Metro bus was running. The driver of the stolen car then got on the bus and stole the bus. The bus driver reported the theft immediately. Police and SAM were able to track the bus, where the suspect came to a stop near Career Avenue. Police believe the suspect was under the influence of drugs. The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation and upon leaving, he attempted to flee officers. Holland faces a long list of charges that range from fleeing from police and grand theft. 'We have a whole host of charges,' Clemens said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
