Victorville woman struck and killed by alleged DUI driver identified
Authorities have released the identity of a Victorville woman was struck and killed by an allegedly intoxicated driver earlier this week. Shareece Jones, 49, died at a hospital shortly after Tuesday's collision, which took place about 9 p.m. at Reno Loop Road and Sorrel Way, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's officials. She was on foot when she was hit by a Chevrolet Suburban being driven by a 50-year-old Barstow man, sheriff's officials said. The circumstances of the collision were not available. Paramedics took Jones to Victor Valley Global Medical Center in Victorville, where she succumbed to her injuries. Deputies determined the SUV driver, identified as George Batiste Thenarse, was intoxicated and arrested him on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Potential criminal charges were pending. SoCal man arrested for allegedly stealing car from Facebook Marketplace seller
A San Bernardino County man was arrested for allegedly stealing a car from a seller on Facebook Marketplace. The victim posted her 2015 Toyota Scion for sale and was contacted by the suspect, Joseph Gomez, 26, of Victorville. Gomez inquired about the vehicle and planned to meet the woman on May 13 at a residence on the 16000 block of Lariat Road to inspect the car, authorities said. During the inspection, Gomez stepped into the vehicle and drove away with the car. The victim contacted law enforcement, who began investigating. At 1:42 p.m., deputies spotted the stolen car near Roy Rogers Drive and the 15 Freeway. 'Deputies conducted a high-risk traffic stop and contacted the driver,' the sheriff's department said. Gomez was arrested for vehicle theft and the possession of a stolen vehicle. He was booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto. 'The Victorville Police Department would like to remind the public to be safe when conducting in-person purchases or sales through online marketplaces, authorities said. 'Meet in a public place and during daylight hours. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash with you and make someone aware of your meeting plans.' No further details were released. Man charged with murder after fatal DUI crash in San Bernardino County
Authorities in San Bernardino County announced that a man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred while he was under the influence. A San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department media release states that the crash occurred just before 1 a.m. on April 19. When first responders got to the location, Bear Valley Road west of Mesa View Drive, they found a deceased man. He was identified as 32-year-old Wilian Castro Vargas of Victorville. 'It was determined [Vargas] was struck by an unknown vehicle,' SBSD said. 'It was learned the suspect vehicle drove west on Bear Valley Road [and] the front-end of the vehicle struck the pedestrian as they crossed the roadway.' Further investigation into the hit-and-run led to the identification of a suspect: David Shynovick, 59, of Phelan. Shynovick was arrested after the Victorville Police Department and SBSD served a warrant at his home. 'Following an extensive investigation, investigators learned David Shynovick drove a 2013 Chevy Impala when he hit and killed Wilian Castro Vargas,' officials said. 'Investigators collected evidence indicating Shynovick was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage at the time of the crash.' He was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for murder and felony hit-and-run, according to SBSD. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Deputy J. Man fatally struck by car along Amargosa Road in Victorville
A man died after being struck by a car along Amargosa Road in Victorville on Monday evening, authorities said. The collision took place about 7:45 p.m. at Amargosa and Gabriel roads, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. "Through investigation, it was determined a grey Honda Sedan struck a pedestrian in the roadway," the sheriff's department said in a written statement. "The male victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene." His identity was not released pending notification of family by coroner's officials. Officials said the involved driver remained at the scene. Amargosa Road was shut down for about four hours to accommodate the investigation. No further details were available..
