has caused quite the kerfuffle among fans with her take on a massive hit from the '80s, and now, the voice behind that famous track is seemingly getting involved.
"Bette Davis Eyes" was penned by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon and released by DeShannon in 1974, but it was Kim Carnes' version in 1981 that spent nine weeks total at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned both Song and Record of the Year at the Grammys.
Most recently, the Dance Moms alum brought the track back into the forefront of the cultural zeitgeist, first by changing the lyrics of the track during a live performance that served as an official hard launch with her Big Brother beau and more recently sparking massive amounts of criticism with teases for her studio version, which was released on Friday, July 11.
In a since-deleted TikTok, as recounted by E! News, the singer behind the smash hit posted a snippet of her own music video on the social media platform. While she didn't address Siwa directly, the timing and the cryptic words she posted with it are suspect: "There is a difference between singing a song.... And embodying it.... I've always believed authenticity is what makes music timeless."
She concluded, "I'm forever grateful to be the voice behind this one..... Bette Davis Eyes."Voice Behind Massive '80s Hit Breaks Silence Over Controversial Singer's Cover first appeared on Parade on Jul 12, 2025

The atomic bomb's first victims deserve to be remembered

Eric S. Singer is a cultural historian and author of 'Oppenheimer and the Atomic Bomb,' a young readers edition of Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin's 'American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. At 5:30 a.m. on that date in 1945, 12 young girls attending a summer camp in Ruidoso, New Mexico, were jolted out of their bunks by a thunderous noise.
