Anupam Kher lives in rented home to avoid future family property disputes: 'I've heard harrowing stories of sons throwing out fathers'

Time of India26-07-2025
Anupam Kher, despite a successful 40-year career, chooses to live in a rented apartment to avoid family disputes over inherited property after his death. He believes distributing money causes less conflict. Kher prefers giving to charity and maintains a simple lifestyle, valuing peace and harmony over owning property.
Anupam Kher
has been a prominent figure in Bollywood for more than forty years, yet he continues to live in a rented apartment. His choice stems from a desire to ensure that his family enjoys a life of peace and unity after him, free from disputes that could arise from inherited property.
Preventing Family Conflicts Over Property
Anupam recently appeared on The Powerful Humans podcast and shared why he chooses to live in a rented home, even though he can afford to own multiple properties. He explained that this choice stems from his wish to prevent family disputes over inherited assets after he is gone. He said, 'Once a person is gone, or has passed away, there is a chance that some disputes might arise regarding the property he has left behind.
There is less conflict involved with distributing money.
I have seen and talked to aged people, and their stories are harrowing. Someone has been thrown out by their son; someone is being coerced to sign over their property. These kinds of things and conversations don't happen in my house.'
Thoughts on Fatherhood and Parenting
The actor also reflected on his role as a stepfather to Sikandar, confessing that he chooses not to interfere excessively in his life.

He added, 'Sikandar is my stepson. Kids of today don't ask their fathers for permission before doing anything. I don't play the role of a father in my real life; that's fine for the movies. I don't go up to Sikandar and tell him how he should handle his business. Kids don't learn in this manner, and my father never told me what to do.
Parents should give their kids a certain amount of freedom so that they learn from their own mistakes.'
Marriage and Family Formation
In 1985, Kher and
Kirron Kher
got married. At that time, Kirron was dealing with a challenging separation from her then-husband, Gautam Berry, while Anupam was recovering from his own breakup. Anupam has mentioned that Sikander, Kirron's son, was four years old when he joined their family.

Not LeBron James: Kyrie Irving Drops a Bombshell on His Greatest Teammate Ever

Kyrie Irving and LeBron James (Image via Getty) Kyrie Irving 's career has been defined by partnerships with some of basketball's biggest names. He shared the court with LeBron James , leading Cleveland to an unforgettable 2016 NBA title, and now runs the offense alongside Luka Doncic in Dallas. But when asked to name the greatest teammate he's ever had, Irving surprised many by bypassing both of those superstars. Kyrie's Pick: Kevin Durant During a recent Twitch live stream, Irving was asked to reflect on his most remarkable on-court partnership. Instead of choosing one of his championship or current teammates, he singled out Kevin Durant , his former Brooklyn Nets co-star. 'The 7/11 duo of me & KD will never be topped in terms of just being on the court with somebody that special. I played with a lot of great players, but playing with KD was OD (overdose),' Irving said. Why Durant Stands Out for Kyrie Irving Kyrie Irving 's time with LeBron James was historic, particularly the 2016 Finals Game 7, where his clutch three-pointer helped clinch Cleveland's first NBA championship. Yet, their partnership came with challenges, including contrasting leadership approaches and the weight of championship expectations. Luka Doncic, Irving's current running mate, has dazzled fans with his skill and vision, but their time together is still in its early stages. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo In contrast, Irving says the chemistry with Durant felt unmatched, even though their run was shorter than expected. The 7/11 Connection Formed in Brooklyn, the '7/11' duo showcased a fluid, high-powered style of basketball that mesmerized fans. Injuries, off-court issues, and roster changes limited them to just 74 combined games in the regular season and playoffs. Still, Irving describes those moments as special—filled with freedom, creativity, and an unspoken understanding on the court. Kyrie Irving's Star-Studded Teammate List • LeBron James – Four-time MVP and one of the game's all-time greats. • Luka Doncic – Rising superstar and perennial All-NBA talent. • Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown – Core of Boston's championship pursuits. • James Harden – Former MVP and elite offensive force. Despite this elite company, Irving says Durant set the standard for what it feels like to truly click with a teammate. Ajay Devgn 's 'Son of Sardaar 2' has wrapped up two weeks at the box office with an estimated Rs 45.16 crore India net collection. The film, which opened on a high note with Rs 7.25 crore on its first Friday, gained momentum over its debut weekend, peaking at Rs 9.25 crore on Sunday. As reported by the Sacnilk website, the collections saw a steep drop on Monday, dipping to Rs 2.35 crore. However, steady weekday earnings ensured a strong first-week total of Rs 33 crore. Second week shows strength with weekend push The second Friday brought in Rs 1.25 crore. It was the Saturday jump to Rs 4 crore that signaled the film's staying power. Sunday followed closely at Rs 3.75 crore, aided by strong family turnout and positive word-of-mouth. While weekdays in week two slowed to under Rs 1.3 crore per day, the film maintained enough traction to keep audiences trickling in. The Day 14 collection is expected to add modestly to the tally, bringing the film tantalizingly close to the Rs 46 crore mark. Our verdict - An Overstuffed Sequel That Delivers Laughs In Parts ETimes gave the film a rating of 3 stars out of 5 and an excerpt from our review reads, "Ajay Devgn is convincing as the endearing and guileless Sardar, shining in both comedy and emotional scenes. Mrunal Thakur , as the fiery and outgoing Rabia, holds her own. Ravi Kishan delivers a knockout performance as the businessman-turned-gangster who is exasperated with his father Ranjeet Singh's ( Sharat Saxena ) colourful ways. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo Mukul Dev and Vindu Dara Singh deserve special mention for their strong onscreen chemistry and impeccable comic timing together.
