Interior Minister: 'Together, We Will Keep Bahrain Peaceful and Safe'
TDT | Manama Interior Minister General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa met with leaders of Husseini processions and matams (religious community centers) across Bahrain as the country prepares for the upcoming Ashura season. During the meeting, the minister shared greetings from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, highlighting their strong support for unity, peace, and respect among all citizens. The minister spoke about the current situation in the region, saying it's a sensitive time that requires everyone to be more careful and aware. He stressed that keeping public order and community discipline is a shared responsibility, especially during important religious events like Ashura. 'This is a time to stay united,' he said. 'We should not give space to anyone trying to create division. I trust in your loyalty and national spirit to stand together against any attempts to stir trouble.' He also reminded everyone that Bahrain is a country of peaceful coexistence, where people live together with respect under wise leadership. He encouraged matam leaders to make this Ashura season a chance to show discipline and responsibility. Sheikh Rashid added that matams have been part of Bahrain's culture for hundreds of years, even before they existed in other countries. He called on everyone to focus on the religious meaning of Ashura and not let processions turn into political events. He ended the meeting by confirming the strong cooperation between the Interior Ministry and matam organizers. 'We all want a safe and peaceful Ashura. We're with you. But if anyone breaks the rules, we will act firmly and together.'
