The Kolkata-based warship maker has built eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water crafts for the Indian Navy, a GRSE official said.
These ships are versatile platforms and can participate in a variety of operations, he said.
The GRSE official also said these ships are designed and built with low draughts and are thus capable of coastal operations, he said.
Live Events
They are equally capable of low-intensity maritime operations and laying mines, he said.
"These 77.6-metre-long and 10.5-metre-wide warships are also capable of full-scale sub-surface surveillance in coastal waters and can carry out operations against surface platforms as well," he said.
They can carry out coordinated anti-submarine operations with aircraft.
These warships pack a lethal anti-submarine suite comprising lightweight torpedoes, ASW rockets and mines, the official added.

Exporters urged to build brandsas a way around Trump tariffs
New Delhi: The government is pushing exporters to build and promote homegrown brands to cope with the 25% tariff imposed by the US. It has also sought industry inputs on an employment-linked scheme for certain exports such as marine goods which now faces threat from Ecuador due to the higher tariffs. "It is important for Indian exporters to do brand building and promotion to come out of the clutches of any subsidies amid the US tariffs," said an official, adding that the brand promotion exercise can be jointly done by export promotion councils and the India Brand Equity Foundation. Washington has imposed an across-the-board 25% tariff on all Indian-origin goods, effective August 7, along with an unspecified penalty. India's competitors including Pakistan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Turkey are in the 15-20% range. Live Events The steep duty could hurt nearly half of India's exports of more than $85 billion to the US. Textiles could be one of the worst-hit with $4 billion of business such as t-shirts and home textiles bearing the brunt, especially due to lower tariffs imposed on India's rivals. The commerce and industry ministry has also asked sectors such as marine food products to suggest if any scheme based on incremental hiring can be worked out as Ecuador, a major shrimp producer, would face a comparatively lower 15% tariff. "While India has a 25% tariff and a penalty, there is a feeling that many countries may not be able to create capacities soon. Even clients will not shift to Ecuador overnight," said a representative of an export promotion body, adding that the tariffs have lowered the possibility of the India-US bilateral trade pact negotiations ending any time soon. The government is also considering a proposal to reintroduce interest subsidy on credit to MSME exporters under the proposed Export Promotion Mission. "If some exporter wants wheat or rice as an intermediate product, the ministry has proposed that the Food Corporation of India can offer these at a fixed price," said an exporter of food products.

Dabur, Nestle, Emami shelve brands, prune staff & stall launches amid slow demand & D2C pressure
Packaged goods companies are either discontinuing non-performing brands, shelving expansion plans in slow-moving categories, or pruning manpower costs, amid challenging demand conditions, and in expectation of demand revival in core businesses over the next two quarters. Nestle India has phased out select variants of Maggi noodles such as Maggi chatpata and teekha, while homegrown Dabur India said last week it has exited diaper, tea, and health drink businesses as part of a portfolio rationalisation and to sharpen focus on core categories. "We are rationalising manpower costs. Sales of large packs declined due to unseasonal rains, since there were less outdoor events and functions," said Varun Jaipuria, executive vice-chairman, VBL, on a quarterly earnings call last week. "We also couldn't add temporary shops particularly in rural markets in summer, which we do otherwise." ET Bureau Almost all makers of summer-centric products such as soft drinks, cold juices, and ice-creams, who tend to set up temporary small shops, especially in small towns and rural markets to cater to seasonal demand, had to abort their plans this year following unseasonal and consistent rains since March. The weather office predicted that India is likely to receive above-normal rainfall in the second half of the monsoon season during August and September. The first half saw above-normal rainfall, with some regions like Himachal Pradesh reporting flash floods and landslides. Distributors noted that previously companies would test market products for at least 12-15 months before discontinuing them if sales lag expectations, which has since narrowed to only a few months. "At least two dozen low-performing sub-brands are going off shelves across tea, Ayurvedic creams and oral care, toothpaste, and soap, owned by large-listed companies, something that's unprecedented within a short phase. These companies have told us that after the present stocks are exhausted, there will be no future replenishment," said an executive at a prominent distributor of FMCG products in New Delhi. "Taking up shelf space, transportation of such packs all add to costs," he said, asking not to be named, citing confidentiality clauses. Emami 's hair oil business led by the Kesh King brand declined 5% year-on-year, particularly impacted by direct-to-consumer (D2C) or online-only brands, while male grooming fell 9% year-on-year. The company is currently revamping these businesses with "strategic transformations". Emami, which also makes BoroPlus cream and Dermicool talc, said it will relaunch the Kesh King hair oil franchise in the current quarter to improve brand relevance and future growth. "The Man Company is undergoing a brand revamp with a sharper positioning," Emami said in the management commentary of its June quarter results. It highlighted the emergence of D2C competitors "as a significant challenge, particularly in the male grooming category." Most listed FMCG companies have provided guidance of high single-digit growth for FY26, on the back of sequential demand recovery, aided by a better-than-expected monsoon, easing food inflation, rural momentum and green shoots of urban revival. Research firm Numerator, formerly Kantar, said in a report last week that demand for groceries, and household and personal care, slowed to 3.9% by volume year-on-year in the June quarter, impacted by unseasonal rains.

Video: Built at Rs 422 crore, Patna's new double-deck flyover sinks just 2 months after inauguration
A portion of a newly inaugurated double-deck flyover in Patna has sunk following days of heavy rain in the city, causing concern about the quality of construction and the city's overall drainage system. The flyover, built at a cost of Rs 422 crore, was inaugurated on 11 June. Barely two months later, part of it has visibly dipped, reportedly due to incessant rain since Saturday night, as per TOI. The sunken section has triggered a flurry of complaints from residents and civic bodies have begun damage assessment. Drain water overflowed into residential areas, halting daily life and affecting traffic. Several roads, including Boring Road, Bailey Road, Khazanchi Road, and Exhibition Road, are under ankle- to waist-deep water. Tree branches fell, vehicles broke down on flooded roads, and traffic congestion worsened across the city. Civic workers are reportedly struggling to manage the drainage load. Live Events 'Drain Water Entered Our Homes,' Say Angry Residents In Ramnagri More, Vyas Nagar, locals are upset with the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC). Rohit Kumar, a resident, told TOI, 'Water entered most homes here. We complained to the PMC , but nothing has been done. Some of our things are already ruined.' Several areas including Pataliputra Colony, Kankarbagh, and Rajendra Nagar saw repeated complaints about drainage failure. According to TOI, water even flooded hospitals, schools, shops, and car showrooms. One resident, Sunny Shah, alleged that car dealers on Exhibition Road were blocking drains with plastic waste. 'It's affecting all of Ward 37,' he told TOI. Ministers and Officials Rush for Damage Control As per TOI, road construction minister Nitin Nabin and municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar visited flooded areas on Sunday. Nabin instructed officers to work in 'alert mode' and fix all mechanical or electric faults in drainage systems quickly. 'With Ganga water rising, draining rainwater has become more difficult,' he said. He also ordered BUIDCo and civic teams to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply at sump houses. Commissioner Parashar told TOI that 19 quick response teams are monitoring flood-prone zones across Patna. 'Drainage is being carried out promptly despite heavy rain,' he said. Highway Blocked, Power Supply Hit In Khusrupur block, a large tree fell on the Patna–Bakhtiyarpur State Highway-106, blocking traffic for over two hours. The incident also disrupted electricity in nearby areas, adding to the city's misery. While the rain has exposed gaps in infrastructure, the sinking of a major flyover just weeks after its inauguration has left citizens demanding answers, and accountability. Inputs from TOI
