Gorakhpur: Authorities have prohibited the weekly fair at the 105-year-old Fagu Baba's shrine in Badliya village under the Itwa police station following objections raised by former BJP MLA Raghvendra Pratap Singh.

The move came after Singh claimed that the site is not a Sufi dargah but the samadhi (tomb) of a Hindu man named Fagu Prasad. The former MLA alleged that occult practices and monetary exploitation were taking place at the shrine where women from outside the region would stay for extended periods. "We had informed the administration. They took the right steps and we are satisfied," Singh said, adding that they had planned to recite the Hanuman Chalisa at the site on Thursday.
However, after the announcement of recital of the Hanuman Chalisa by Singh, heavy police force was deployed at the spot on Thursday morning.
SDM, Dumariyaganj, Sanjeev Dixit imposed
to prevent gatherings. "Based on police and CO Itwa's reports, it was found that exorcism-like activities were being conducted regularly. The land also falls under charagah (pasture) category and legal action will be taken," Dixit stated.
Meanwhile, sitting MLA Saiyada Khatoon strongly objected to the curb orders imposed by the administration. She said: "The shrine is a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. I will collect all legal documents related to the dargah and move court if required. People's faith is attached to the place, especially women, who gather here every Thursday. I will fight for their belief."

ACB files FIR against Bharadwaj and Jain in hospital ‘scam'
The Delhi Government's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Thursday registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party leaders and former Health Ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Satyendra Jain in connection with alleged corruption in the implementation of health infrastructure projects during the tenure of the AAP government, an official said. The leaders, along with unknown government officials and private contractors, were booked under section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, along with Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonesty), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. AAP hits back In response, AAP questioned why the FIR had not been made public yet. 'Is the FIR so baseless that the BJP fears it will become a national joke if released publicly?' the party said in a statement, adding that the case is a 'blatant misuse of agencies' to defame its leaders. The FIR has been filed in connection with an August 2024 complaint made by BJP leader and then Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta, highlighting 'grave irregularities and suspected corruption in health infrastructure projects including systematic manipulation of project budgets, misuse of public funds and collusion with private contractors'. According to a senior ACB official, the complainant alleged that during 2018-19, 24 hospital projects worth ₹5,590 crores were sanctioned. However, these projects remained largely incomplete, with substantial and unexplained cost escalations. Similarly, the ₹1,125 crore ICU Hospital Project, covering 7 pre-engineered facilities with a total of 6,800 beds, remains only 50% complete after nearly three years and expenditure of ₹800 crores, despite an initial six-month completion timeline, the official added. 'Approvals not taken' 'Verification of the complaint revealed unauthorised additional construction at government hospitals in Jwalapuri and Madipur carried out without approval from competent authorities. Notably, the Madipur hospital project was to be completed by November 2022, but remains abandoned and far from completion. Further, it was revealed that the 7 ICU hospitals have witnessed cost escalations exceeding 100%, with construction still incomplete well beyond the deadline of February 2022,' said the official. Further, he added that verification also found that the New Block at LNJP Hospital saw project costs escalate from ₹488 crores to ₹1,135 crores over four years, with the structure still incomplete beyond its January 2023 deadline. During the investigation, the officials also found that the Polyclinic Project also indicated misuse of funds where only 52 out of 94 planned clinics were constructed, while the cost rose from ₹168 crores to ₹220 crores. Many of these polyclinics remain non-functional. 'Despite a public announcement in 2016–17, the Health Information Management System (HIMS), a crucial tool for ensuring financial transparency in the health department, remained unimplemented and a free, cost-effective solution from NIC (e-Hospital) was deliberately rejected without justification,' he added. 'Tender rules violated' The ACB also found serious violations of rules, tender conditions, and financial protocols during scrutiny, revealing deliberate delays, inflated project costs, rejection of viable alternatives, and the creation of idle assets - collectively leading to massive losses to the public exchequer.

Maha DGP puts police on high alert ahead of Muharram & Devshayani Ekadashi amid Iran-Israel tension
Nagpur: Maharashtra's director general of police (DGP), Rashmi Shukla, has placed the state's police force, including Nagpur, on high alert ahead of Muharram and Devshayani Ekadashi, both coinciding on July 6. The directive, issued via statewide video conferencing on Wednesday, is in response to escalating geopolitical tensions due to the Iran-Israel conflict, which could disrupt communal harmony during these significant religious observances. In Nagpur, where the Shia population is relatively small, city police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure peace and security. Muharram, a solemn period marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, involves mourning rituals and processions, particularly among Shia Muslims in pockets of Nagpur like Mominpura, Hasanbagh and Kamptee. Simultaneously, Devshayani Ekadashi, a major Hindu festival, draws thousands to temples like the Koradi Mahalaxmi Temple for fasting and prayers. The convergence of these events demands meticulous planning to maintain law and order. Following the March 17 riots in central Nagpur, city police intensified proactive measures. "We are enhancing intelligence gathering and closely monitoring community activities to pre-empt untoward incidents," said a senior police official. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? Police are also engaging with community leaders from both Hindu and Muslim communities to foster cooperation and peace. DGP Shukla emphasised vigilance, urging officers to promptly report suspicious activities. In Nagpur, additional checkpoints and quick-response teams would be deployed to monitor processions and gatherings. "Our priority is to create a safe environment for all communities to observe their rituals," the official added. Police are also leveraging technology, including CCTV surveillance, to keep a close watch on potential flashpoints.

Maharashtra BJP MLA sparks row over 'Govt gives everything' remark
Mumbai: BJP MLA Babanrao Lonikar has come under fire from across the political spectrum - including his own party - for saying that people should not criticise the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Maharashtra, as they receive "everything from clothes, shoes, mobile phones to money" from the government. "There are some useless people whose mother's salary was fixed because of Babanrao Lonikar. Their father's pension was done through Babanrao Lonikar. Narendra Modi has given your father ₹6,000 for cultivation. Under the Ladki Bahin scheme, your mother, sister, and wife have been receiving money," Lonikar said on Wednesday. The comments triggered sharp criticism. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve said, "You've become an MLA because of the people. Your clothes, shoes, air tickets, the diesel in your car - all are because of the people. With local body elections approaching, people should remember these words."
