'More Kerstin Casparij and less JK Rowling,' soccer fans react to this trans ally moment
The UK Supreme Court ruling against trans rights last week may have allowed bigots like J.K. Rowling to celebrate, but it also gave an opportunity for allies like Manchester City player Kerstin Casparij to make a stand.
For those unfamiliar, the court declared that the legal definition of 'sex' in the 2010 Equality Act refers strictly to biological sex, not gender identity. This allowed yet another wave of anti-trans hatred, including Rowling, who posted a photo of herself smoking a cigar and drinking an Old Fashioned, captioned, 'I love it when a plan comes together.'
Casparij, who is in a relationship with a woman named Ruth Brown, took a moment to address the ruling and her stance on trans rights at the end of a game against Everton. After scoring a goal, she kissed her trans flag-colored wristband and then explained why on her Instagram afterward.
'Sometimes there are bigger, more important things than football,' she captioned her post. 'My goal today was dedicated to all my trans siblings, who've had an incredibly tough & heartbreaking week. You have all been on my mind and in my heart, you deserve so much more than what this government & society is giving you.'

She continued, 'I'm so incredibly proud of the trans existence within the queer community, and I'm proud of all trans women — you are women no matter what anyone says.'
Her message was well-received online, with a fan named Jade even recounting a personal conversation between the two, thanking Casparij for doing what she did in front of so many people, to which she responded, 'Thank you so much for your kind message. Big hug from me, my gf & our boys! We're with you all the way.'

Even though our trans friends have certainly seen an uptick in hatred recently (largely due to the Trump administration), there's one part of Casparij's message we also want to reiterate: We're with you all the way.

Zinchenko scores off the bench to help Ukraine defeat New Zealand at Canadian Shield
TORONTO - Substitute Oleksandr Zinchenko scored in the 75th minute to lift Ukraine to a 2-1 win over New Zealand on Tuesday at the Canadian Shield Tournament. The Arsenal fullback/midfielder had been on the pitch less than a minute when he acrobatically swept Oleksandr Martyniuk's cross past New Zealand goalkeeper Max Crocombe. Zinchenko, Ukraine's Footballer of the Year in 2019, joined Arsenal from Manchester City in July 2022 in a 30-million-pound ($55.4-million) transfer. The 28-year-old has been linked to a move to AC Milan in recent days. Oleksiy Hutsuliak also scored for Ukraine. Marko Stamenic replied for New Zealand in a game that saw tempers flare as the clock wound down. New Zealand, ranked 86th in the world, upset No. 41 Ivory Coast 1-0 on Saturday. No. 25 Ukraine lost 4-2 to No. 30 Canada. The Canadians faced Ivory Coast in the late game at BMO Field. Ukraine had more of the ball but failed to take advantage Tuesday. That changed in the 54th minute when Hutsuliak, from the edge of the penalty box, beat Crocombe with a left-footed shot that went through a New Zealand defender's legs. Marko Stamenic replied in the 59th minute off a New Zealand corner. The ball came to defender Michael Boxall who headed it in front of goal to Stamenic, whose header beat Ukraine goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, Thibaut Courtois' backup at Real Madrid. Ukraine began to threaten with crosses in the first half. And the six-foot-four Crocombe, who plays in England's third tier for Burton Albion, had to make a spectacular reflex save to deny Hutsuliak's header in the 15th minute. Crocombe had to be agile again in the 31st minute, stopping Oleksandr Pikhalonok from a tight angle. And the All Whites 'keeper was up to the task again in the 49th minute, blocking a shot after a pinball-like sequence following a Ukraine free kick. New Zealand brought on star forward Chris Wood, who has scored 89 goals for England's Nottingham Forest, in the 80th minute. The Toronto tournament is the first action for New Zealand since punching its ticket to the World Cup with a 3-0 win over No. 151 New Caledonia in the Oceania Football Confederation qualifying final in March at Auckland's Eden Park. New Zealand previously took part in the 1982 and 2010 World Cups, failing to get out of the group stage on both occasions. The famous win over New Caledonia came some 33 months after New Zealand lost 1-0 to Costa Rica in an intercontinental playoff in Doha, Qatar, for the final berth at the 2022 World Cup. Ukraine coach Serhiy Rebrov made nine changes to the starting lineup that lost to Canada. New Zealand made three changes with Boxall among those slotting in. As they did Saturday, the Ukrainian players came out with the Ukraine flag draped over their shoulders. Many of their supporters also brought flags. The Ukraine players, who have not played an international match at home since Russia invaded in February 2022, did a lap around the stadium after the final whistle to applaud their fans. 'Last night, Kyiv endured one of the most brutal attacks since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In just a few days between two matches, Ukraine was hit 1,088 times by airstrikes,' the Ukrainian Association of Football said in a social media post during the first half. This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 10, 2025.

Billy Ray Cyrus' son Trace attacks his ‘washed–up' and ‘evil' dad for skipping grandma's funeral
Talk about an achy breaky heart. Billy Ray Cyrus' son, Trace Cyrus, attacked his country music star father in several scathing posts shared to Instagram on Tuesday. Trace, 36, slammed Billy Ray as 'washed-up' and 'pathetic' in the blistering online rant. He also denounced the 63-year-old musician for not attending his grandmother's funeral back in 2020. 8 Trace Cyrus attacked Billy Ray Cyrus in a scathing social media post shared to Instagram on Tuesday. Instagram / @tracecyrus 'This man is so hungry for fame it's pathetic,' Billy Ray's son began. 'He really flew to Italy for a fashion show but wouldn't come to LA for Mammie's funeral while he was still married to my mom,' Trace, who is also a musician, alleged. 'Even after his daughter got him a 60k private jet like he demanded then he still didn't come even after the plane was paid for.' Loretta Finley, Tish Cyrus' mother, passed away roughly two years before Tish and Billy Ray divorced in April 2022. Trace's tirade against his father didn't end there. 'You're the lamest man to ever walk planet earth,' Miley Cyrus' brother continued. 'Honestly embarrassed to ever have considered you my idol.' 8 Trace also denounced Billy Ray for not attending his grandmother's funeral back in 2020. Instagram/tracecyrus 8 Trace also made fun of his father's hair in a post shared to his Instagram Stories. Instagram/@tracecyrus 'The best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode,' he added. 'I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I'm old like you.' Trace ended his diatribe by telling Billy Ray to 'get right with God.' 'Christ is King. Get right with God,' he concluded the post. 'You need it.' 8 Trace returned to his Instagram Stories once again after someone commented that his post 'seems like a cry for help.' Instagram/tracecyrus Trace targeted the 'Busy Man' singer further in his Instagram Stories. 'Also why does he think that homeless hairstyle looks good?' he wrote. 'So weird.' Trace continued to diss his dad after someone commented that his post 'seems like a cry for help from a son that desperately needs attention from his father.' 8 Billy Ray adopted Trace and Trace's sister, Brandi, when he married their mother in 1993. WireImage 'No I'm past the point of even caring if I ever speak to him again,' the former Metro Station guitarist responded. 'I've surpassed him in every metric as a man on this planet.' 'There's nothing left to learn from him except his mistakes,' Trace concluded. 'I had hope at one point but I'm convinced he's finally a lost cause.' Billy Ray adopted Trace and Brandi, 38, when he married Tish in 1993. The former couple welcomed Miley, 32, in 1992, followed by the 'Wrecking Ball' superstar's siblings: Braison, 31, and Noah, 25. 8 Miley Cyrus opened up about her and her dad's relationship in a rare statement about her family last month. Billy Ray Cyrus/Instagram 8 Billy Ray and his new girlfriend, Elizabeth Hurley, made their red carpet debut in Rome last month. @elizabethhurley1/Instagram Trace previously lashed out at his famous father in January after Billy Ray performed at President Donald Trump's second inauguration. 'It seems this world has beaten you down and it's become obvious to everyone but you,' he wrote on Instagram at the time. 'Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years, but you've pushed all of us away.' Trace's siblings have since reunited with Billy Ray, and Miley even opened up about her relationship with her dad in a rare statement last month. 8 The country music star and Hurley were first romantically linked in April. Elizabeth Hurley/Instagram Billy Ray has not responded to his son's attack as he's celebrating his new girlfriend, Elizabeth Hurley's 60th birthday. Posting a tribute via Instagram on Tuesday, June 10, the star called Hurley the 'love of my life.' The Post reached out to Billy Ray for comment.

Popular TikTok star leaves US after being detained
LAS VEGAS -- LAS VEGAS (AP) — Khaby Lame, the world's most popular TikTok personality with millions of followers, has left the U.S. after being detained by immigration agents in Las Vegas for allegedly overstaying his visa. The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was detained Friday at Harry Reid International Airport but was allowed to leave the country without a deportation order, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed in a statement. Lame arrived in the U.S. on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' the ICE spokesperson said. The Associated Press sent a message seeking comment Tuesday to the email address listed on Lame's Instagram account. He has not publicly commented on his detainment. His detainment and voluntary departure from the U.S. comes amid President Donald Trump's escalating crackdown on immigration, including raids in Los Angeles that sparked days of protests against ICE, as the president tests the bounds of his executive authority. A voluntary departure — which was granted to Lame — allows those facing removal from the U.S. to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record, which could prevent them from being allowed back into the U.S. for up to a decade. The 25-year-old rose to international fame during the pandemic without ever saying a word in his videos, which would show him reacting to absurdly complicated 'life hacks." He has over 162 million followers on TikTok alone. The Senegal-born influencer moved to Italy when he was an infant with his working class parents and has Italian citizenship. His internet fame quickly evolved. He signed a multi-year partnership with designer brand Hugo Boss in 2022. In January, he was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
