US SEC has not yet served summons on Gautam Adani, nephew Sagar Adani in India; here's why
The American regulatory body had initiated legal proceedings against the industrialists and their organisation a few months ago. (AP file photo) The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has not yet delivered legal summons to Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani, his nephew. The American regulatory body had initiated legal proceedings against the industrialists and their organisation a few months ago. The SEC submitted its third status update on August 11, 2025, to the Eastern District Court of New York's Magistrate Judge James R. Cho. The report indicated that the defendants are based in India, and the SEC continues its attempts to serve them, including seeking assistance from Indian officials under the Hague Service Convention for Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents in Civil or Commercial Matters, according to an ET report. ET has examined the SEC's submission to the magistrate. On November 20, 2024, the SEC lodged its complaint, stating that the accused had breached federal securities regulations by presenting inaccurate and deceptive information about Adani Green Energy Ltd. regarding a debt offering in September 2021. The legal document noted that since the accused reside in India, service must comply with Rule 4(f) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, permitting the SEC to deliver notices through internationally recognised methods, including the Hague Service Convention. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Find your car's value online in minutes. The document further noted that the organisation "has also sent Notices of Lawsuit and Requests for Waiver of Service of Summons, including copies of the Complaint, directly to Defendants and their counsel, and the SEC has communicated with the India MoLJ." Nevertheless, the SEC acknowledges "that those authorities have not yet effected service." The Securities and Exchange Commission informed the court: "The SEC intends to continue communicating with the India MoLJ and pursue service of the Defendants via the Hague Service Convention, and will keep the Court apprised of its efforts." This civil litigation forms part of a larger series of legal proceedings in US courts involving Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Adani Green Energy Ltd. The SEC's investigation focuses on CDPQ executives Cyril Cabanes, Saurabh Agarwal, and Deepak Malhotra regarding allegations of evidence destruction and information concealment in a bribery investigation. According to documents examined by ET, the regulatory body has been working to serve the defendant under Rule 4(f) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure in Singapore. Local legal representatives have been actively searching for Cabanes. The SEC noted that they received information suggesting Cabanes has likely left Singapore, and they continue their efforts to locate him across different jurisdictions. 'Can't depend on dollar': Brazil President Lula says 'Brics should test a new currency' amid trade tensions with US
Synopsis Amid escalating trade tensions with the U.S., Brazilian President Lula da Silva champions a BRICS trade currency to reduce reliance on the dollar. Despite Trump's tariff threats and refusal to engage directly, Lula seeks support from leaders like Xi Jinping and Modi. Brazil plans WTO action against U.S. tariffs while remaining open to diplomatic resolutions, emphasizing dialogue over economic retaliation. BRICS leaders with inset of commemorative currency note President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has reiterated his support for a BRICS trade currency, saying Brazil "cannot depend on the dollar" and must remain open to testing alternatives for trade among member nations. In social media videos circulating widely, Lula clarified, 'We do not want to mess with the dollar, it's an important currency. But we can have a currency for trade in BRICS — it's an idea we have to test.' He added, 'Not seeking to undermine the dollar, [we] recognize it as an important currency,' while maintaining that BRICS should be open to 'testing a common trade currency.'Amid Trump's tariff war, the Brazilian president has again brought up the issue of BRICS countries having their own currency. Lula has also proposed that BRICS nations begin discussions on creating such a shared trade currency, arguing it would reduce global dependence on the U.S. dollar. 'We need to test it,' Lula said. 'If it fails, then I was wrong — but someone would have to convince me that I was wrong.' His remarks come amid escalating trade tensions with the United States. The United States has imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, adding to an existing 10%, prompting Lula to announce that Brazil will seek recourse through the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other formal diplomatic channels. He also confirmed he will not engage directly with U.S. President Donald Trump in light of the January 2025, Trump publicly threatened a 100% tariff on BRICS countries if they pursued the creation of a shared currency. There will be no exceptions to this policy.' Lula emphasized Brazil's broader aim of reducing its dependency on the dollar. 'We want independence in our policies, we want freer trade, and things are progressing wonderfully. We are even discussing the possibility of creating our own currency, or perhaps using each country's national currency for trade, without relying on the dollar,' he a televised interview with Jornal da Record TV, Lula said Trump's actions reflect discontent over BRICS' rising global influence. 'I am not obliged to purchase dollars to trade with countries like Venezuela, Bolivia, Chile, Sweden, the European Union, or China. We can use our own currencies. Why should I be tied to the dollar, a currency I do not control? It's the United States that prints dollars, not us.'Rejecting Trump's earlier offer to speak 'anytime,' Lula said, 'He does not want to talk.' Instead, the Brazilian president stated, 'I will call Xi Jinping, I will call Prime Minister Modi, I won't call Putin, because he can't travel now, but I will call many Presidents.'Despite ongoing tensions, Lula confirmed that Trump will still receive an invitation to COP30, the United Nations climate summit set to take place in Belém, Pará this 50% tariff affects a wide range of Brazilian exports, though exemptions include civil aircraft and parts, aluminum, tin, wood pulp, energy products, and fertilizers. Donald Trump attacks Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan and then calls his career an "amazing story": A look at Lip-Bu Tan's life and career
Credit: Instagram Lip-Bu Tan, a Taiwanese-American business leader and veteran tech executive, became CEO of Intel with a concise and urgent mantra: "bureaucracy kills innovation." The veteran leader, who led the turnaround of Cadence Design Systems and other tech startups, brought to Intel not only decades of experience in the industry but also a newfound sense of urgency to destroy the thickets of red tape that he believes have dampened the creativity and quick response of the company. The problem: Bureaucracy stifles innovation S peed and innovation are critical in the high-stakes semiconductor business. But Intel had become entrapped in complicated procedures and a bureaucratic hierarchy that clogged the decision-making process and stifled the creative impulse. In his (Lip-Bu-Tan) first earnings call as CEO, he openly admitted that these self-inflicted inefficiencies were "suffocating the innovation and agility we need to win. " He pointed out how long decision cycles and multiple management layers had stalled engineers and product teams from rapidly converting ideas into competitive products, they cannot because that is how they think businesses work. This bureaucratic drag that Tan explained has been one of the central reasons for Intel's recent execution and marketplace woes. Donald Trump calls out and then backtracks Credit: Instagram/@realdonaldtrump Only a couple of days after seeking a public resignation from Intel's CEO, Donald Trump backtracked again and actually called Lip-Bu Tan's career an "amazing story". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Best Method for a Flat Stomach After 50 (It's Genius!) Lulutox Undo The turnaround comes after Trump's initial attack last week sent Intel shares sliding. The stock bounced back on Tuesday, rising before the market opened. Who is Lip-Bu Tan : A look at his journey Raised in Taiwan, Lip-Bu Tan relocated to the United States to attend university and begin a career in technology. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Chicago and, over time, has become known as a turnaround expert. Before working at Intel, Tan was chairman and CEO of Cadence Design Systems, where he had succeeded in reducing operations and driving innovation. His international outlook and pragmatic leadership approach paint him exceptionally well to guide Intel through the current troubles, especially in restoring the company's engineering superiority and execution velocity. Tan's strategy to eliminate bureaucracy is multi-pronged. One of his initial moves was to streamline Intel's organizational hierarchy by consolidating core operations like product development, manufacturing, and administrative functions. These operations now report directly to him, bypassing levels of management and bringing leadership closer to the frontline engineering teams. He also reinstated the mandatory four-day-a-week office comeback policy, hoping to entrench the spontaneity of face-to-face collaboration. Tan is convinced that frankness and one-on-one interaction are important in promoting innovation, which bureaucratic trends and remote work movements have watered down. What new did he add? In addition to structural shifts, Tan urges a cultural shift that restores Intel's "Day One startup" spirit. This entails empowering small groups of people to act rapidly, think creatively, and test without bureaucratic approvals and slow processes. Citing his background at Cadence Design Systems, Tan highlighted how lowly manned teams can beat the incumbents with fast innovation. "I see small, tightly focused teams move extremely fast and innovate, and take incumbents head-on. And we are going to do that in Intel," he stated. The approach is designed to bring back Intel's pioneering spirit and competitiveness. Building trust and productivity by being transparent Tan knows that words are not sufficient. To restore trust among customers, employees, and investors, he has pledged to streamline operations, dismantle silos, and increase transparency and accountability at Intel. He also has asked for candid criticism from the Intel community, promoting a culture of humility and candor as critical to ongoing improvement. The road ahead for Intel Intel has serious problems, ranging from intense international competition to winning back lost market share from competitors. Tan's assessment that bureaucracy has choked innovation and his remedy, flattening the company, empowering teams, and encouraging direct collaboration, are bold but needed measures. As this mastermind closes his chapter at Intel, he is not simply stepping away from his duties; rather he is sending a clear message for the next gen of leaders: Simplify, empower and innovate. It serves as both, a caution and a command for who will follow his footsteps next in line. Vision Opening Keynote | Lip-Bu Tan | Intel Business
