Path cleared for block education officers' hiring
Prayagraj: The path for recruitment of block education officers (BEO) in basic education department was cleared following the governor's approval of amendments to the Uttar Pradesh Educational (General Education Cadre) Services Revised Rules, 1992. The significant change includes the removal of the term "equivalent" from the educational qualification criteria. Earlier, candidates possessing a postgraduate degree or an equivalent recognised qualification from a university were eligible to apply. The revised rules now clearly state that only those with a postgraduate degree from a university, deemed university, or institution will be considered eligible. This amendment is expected to eliminate legal hurdles that previously arose due to the ambiguity of "equivalent" qualifications, often leading to ineligible candidates applying and subsequent litigation. According to education department sources, a requisition for 134 vacant BEO posts was already sent to the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). With the revised rules now formalised, the updated requisition will be forwarded, and an official recruitment advertisement is anticipated soon. The last recruitment for BEO posts was conducted in 2019, when 309 positions were filled. Another key change is the removal of the LT Diploma from the list of preferred qualifications. Previously, candidates with LT Diploma, BTC, BEd, or an equivalent qualification were eligible for preference. Now, preference will be given only to those holding a BEd degree from an NCTE-recognised institution. Meanwhile, Rajarshi Tandon Open University in Uttar Pradesh has invited applications for 35 contractual assistant professor positions. The appointments will be temporary, with a maximum tenure of six months and a fixed monthly honorarium of Rs 38,000. Applications must be submitted via registered post by 5pm on Aug 18. Qualifications for these posts must comply with UGC, NCTE, AICTE, RCI, and university regulations. Interview details will be communicated exclusively via email, and no changes in the scheduled date or time will be entertained.
