Prayagraj: The festival of Rakshabandhan was celebrated in city with fervour on Saturday. While sisters tied the pious thread on the wrists of their brothers, city temples also turned into hubs of devotion as devotees tied rakhis to deities to celebrate Rakshabandhan.
Prominent temples witnessed heavy footfall, with worshippers arriving in large numbers to seek blessings.
Across Sangam City, the prime markets bustled with festive energy. Women thronged stalls selling rakhis priced between Rs 10 and Rs 500, along with sweets and coconuts, while many women got mehndi applied, adding to the celebratory spirit. The majority of shops were decked up with rakhi-themed decorations, attracting steady footfall.
The festival rush also extended beyond markets to transport hubs. Both railway stations and bus stands were packed and saw a surge in women passengers on Roadways buses.
Special Rakshabandhan buses were operated by Roadways.
From defence personnel and policemen to the common man, all celebrated the festival with fun and frolic, promoting the festival's message of love and protection. Sisters also visited district and central jails to tie rakhis on the wrists of their brothers. The jail administration provided roli, haldi, etc.

Odisha gears up to take part in second phase of Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari campaign
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Odisha is gearing up to take part in the second phase of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) campaign of the ministry of jal shakti to ensure water security by creating more artificial and natural recharge structures in urban and rural areas. In a letter to district collectors and municipal administrations, Anu Garg, additional chief secretary in the water resources department, stated that to promote community-driven water conservation efforts, the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari 2.0 has been launched. Garg said that in the previous phase, the state successfully created 1.5 lakh recharge structures, securing sixth position in the country. "This phase aims to sustain the momentum generated so far and deepen local engagement in groundwater recharge," she added. Sharing the guidelines with the officials, Garg said the approach this time will be guided by the 3Cs: CSR, community, and cost, maximising the impact through convergence. "The focus is low-cost and scientific structures providing hyper-local solutions for groundwater recharge and storage," the letter reads. As per the guidelines, the recharge structures have been divided into two categories. The state was then tasked to calculate the capacity of the recharge pits and design the catchment area based on average rainfall. The state successfully took part in the first phase of the national campaign and created the recharge pits by using corrosion-resistant materials such as PVC and galvanised iron for gutters and downpipes. "People's participation is the key in such water conservation initiatives. The campaign aptly realised the need and is bringing the people to the core. Odisha is not a water-scarce state, but we need to be future-ready," a water resource department official said. Environmentalists also welcomed the implementation of the initiative. "This is a great idea. The awareness among public is getting higher and this is a positive sign in water conservation," environmentalist Sailabala Padhi said.
