Sift Samra Looks Forward To New Shooting League: 'Perfect For A Revolution...'

Indian shooter Sift Kaur Samra, who won bronze at the ISSF World Cup, supports the new Shooting League of India, calling it a "game-changer."
Indian star shooter Sift Kaur Samra, who secured a bronze medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions women's event at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Munich, has come forward, voicing strong support for the upcoming Shooting League of India (SLI), describing it as a 'game-changer for the sport in the country."
The 23-year-old from Punjab, who made history with a world record score of 469.6 in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions final at the 2022 Asian Games, believes that India's first-ever shooting league will open new horizons for shooters and aspiring talent alike.
'This is the first time something like this is happening in Indian shooting, and I think it's a huge step forward. People still do not know much about shooting as a sport. A league format brings it closer to audiences and gives us shooters a whole new platform to grow—both competitively and personally," said Sift.
Having already showcased her prowess on the international stage with multiple medals, including Asian Games gold and silver, and a previous ISSF World Cup bronze, Sift is particularly excited about the league's format. This new setup will see India's top shooters compete against each other in team-based rivalries.
'We are used to competing individually or as national teams internationally. But in the league, we will be playing against each other—possibly alongside international shooters too. That is new, that is exciting, and it will definitely be fun. It is a format where you win or lose in a single shot—there is no safety net of world rankings or qualification points. It is pure sport, and people will love watching that," she said.
Sift also pointed out the league's potential to inspire the next generation of shooters, comparing its potential impact to the IPL in cricket. 'I have had people call my parents asking how to get into shooting. If a league like this can be seen on TV or social media, it will create a lot of awareness. Just like the IPL brought visibility to cricket's domestic talent, the Shooting League can do the same for us."
She also wants to connect with junior shooters and international athletes through the league. 'There are juniors I have never interacted with because we are in different categories. This league will bridge that gap. We will learn from each other—and that is how the sport grows."
Reflecting on the cultural impact of a league, she said, 'People see us winning medals at the World Cup or Asian Games or maybe recognise us from an appearance on TV. But they do not really see the sport. A league will change that—it is fast-paced, it is dramatic, and it will show that shooting is more than just a serious Olympic discipline. It is also a lot of fun."
Sift expressed her excitement for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to begin in November of this year. 'We are all curious—who will be in which team, who will be rivals, how will it be structured? None of us have experienced this before. But one thing is for sure—the time is perfect for a shooting revolution, and I cannot wait to be part of it," she concluded.

Latest NBA Trade Proposal pairs $194 million Phoenix Suns superstar with Minnesota Timberwolves giant Anthony Edwards

The NBA offseason is heating up, and one of the biggest storylines is Kevin Durant's future. After a disappointing playoff run with the Phoenix Suns, trade rumors are swirling, and the Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as a potential landing spot. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to ESPN Front Office Insider Bobby Marks, a blockbuster trade could send Durant to Minnesota, pairing him with rising star Anthony Edwards. The proposed deal would shake up both teams' rosters and give the Timberwolves a legitimate championship contender. Proposed Trade Details The hypothetical trade outlined by Marks would involve multiple players and picks: Timberwolves receive: - Kevin Durant Suns receive: - Rudy Gobert - Donte DiVincenzo - Mike Conley - 2025 1st-round pick (17th overall) This trade would address key needs for both teams. The Suns, struggling to find a long-term solution at center, would get Gobert—a four-time Defensive Player of the Year. DiVincenzo adds depth as a reliable two-way player, while Conley's expiring contract helps Phoenix clear future cap space. For Minnesota, acquiring Durant would be a franchise-altering move. How the Minnesota Timberwolves' Lineup Would Look Former NBA player hints at Kevin Durant's next stop amidst ongoing trade rumors (Image Credit: Getty Images) If the trade goes through, Minnesota's starting five could look like this: Position Player PG Terrance Shannon Jr. SG Anthony Edwards SF Kevin Durant PF Julius Randle C Naz Reid This lineup assumes Randle and Reid return (both have player options). The combination of Edwards and Durant would create one of the most dynamic scoring duos in the league. - Anthony Edwards – A rising superstar with elite scoring and athleticism. - Kevin Durant – A proven champion and one of the greatest scorers in NBA history. - Julius Randle & Naz Reid – Versatile big men who can stretch the floor. - Terrance Shannon Jr. – A promising young guard who showed flashes as a rookie. The Timberwolves would have elite scoring at every position, along with improved floor spacing and pick-and-roll versatility. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Mutual Respect Between Durant and Edwards The chemistry between Durant and Edwards is already strong. Edwards has openly admired Durant, calling him his favorite player. "Who I look to for advice? Of course KD, that's my favorite player of all time, anything I wanna ask I go straight to him," Edwards said last year when the two were teammates on the Olympic squad. This existing relationship could make the transition seamless, giving Minnesota a lethal offensive duo. Challenges and Cap Considerations While the trade is enticing, the Timberwolves face financial hurdles: - They are a first-apron team, limiting their flexibility. - Player options for Randle and Reid could impact cap space. - Integrating Durant while maintaining depth won't be easy. Still, if Minnesota is serious about contending, this move could push them into title contention. The Timberwolves have a real shot at landing Kevin Durant. Pairing him with Anthony Edwards would instantly make them a top-tier team in the West. While the trade would cost them key pieces like Gobert and a first-round pick, the payoff could be worth it. BCCI requests ECB to name award for individual performance in India vs England Tests after Pataudi

The England and Wales Cricket (ECB) board's decision to retire Pataudi Trophy and rename the forthcoming England vs India five-match Test match series as 'Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy' has received a mixed response worldwide. However, to keep the legacy of former India captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi alive, it is learnt that the Indian board has now requested the ECB to name one of their awards for individual performance on Pataudi in the forthcoming Test match series. The ECB had decided to retire Pataudi Trophy from this year onwards and has instead introduced 'Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy' in line with the modern trend of naming series after former players. In recent times, the ECB in association with Cricket West Indies renamed the Wisden Trophy established in 1963 and played between the two teams as Richards-Botham Trophy from 2020 in mark of respect to the two greats Viv Richards and Ian Botham. Similarly, the bilateral series between England and New Zealand takes place for Crowe-Thorpe Trophy which is named after Martin Crowe and Graham Thorpe. And since 1996, India have been playing the Test series against Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which has now gained iconic status. And the decision to rename the Pataudi Trophy seem to be done on similar lines. 'It's the ECB who decides on whom they want to name their series. The BCCI has no role in it as it's their home series. We have requested them to name one of the post match Trophy on Pataudi and they will revert to us,' a BCCI official told The Indian Express. The ECB had decided to move on from Pataudi's name earlier this year without giving any official reason. However, they had informed Pataudi's son, a well known actor Saif Ali Khan about it in April this year. India will be playing a five-match Test series against England which is scheduled to start from June 20th at Headingley, Leeds. The Pataudi Trophy came into existence in 2007 to celebrate India's 75th anniversary of their first Test in 1932. At 21, Pataudi had become the youngest Indian Test captain. His father Iftikar Ali Khan played for both England and India. Though ECB is yet to make their series name official, it is learnt that they have informed Anderson and Tendulkar about it and the duo is set to unveil the trophy before the first Test. The English pacer Anderson retired from all forms of game in July 2024 where he took 704 wickets in 188 Tests. Tendulkar played 200 Tests and scored 15921 runs in a long illustrious career. Talking to Zoom, Pataudi's daughter, Soha said, 'For us, it is disappointing that they are considering or have chosen to retire the Pataudi Trophy because I think that my father's contribution to Indian cricket has been immense and in some form, I feel that it is important to recognise the contribution of the people in early years, especially somebody like him, who really inculcated the sense of Indian-ness and oneness and a sense of pride, winning the first overseas Test and things like that.' She added, 'I think he should be remembered in some form, in some way and hopefully the BCCI will consider some other way of doing that, if not this.'
