Golf: Ryan Fox misses rich Tour Championship
New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox. Photo: Matthew Maxey/Icon Sportswire / PHOTOSPORT Auckland golfer Ryan Fox has missed out on a maiden appearance in the lucrative PGA Tour Championship. Fox finished 43rd in the second FedEx Cup play-off tournament, the BMW Championship in Maryland. He finished with his best round of the week, a one-under par 69, which left him 12-over for the tournament and 27 shots from the winner. World number one Scottie Scheffler reeled in overnight leader Robert MacIntyre of Scotland to win. Scheffler began the final day four shots behind, but was in front by the seventh hole and finished two clear. It was Scheffler's 18th Tour win and fifth of the season (becoming the first player since Tiger Woods in 2006 and 2007 to record five or more wins in consecutive years). Fox started the tournament needing a top finish to make the exclusive 30-player field for the $68 million Tour Championship this week. He was ranked 34th, but his projected standing is now 43rd. Fox has had an impressive season with two victories, while his place in the BMW Championship for the top 50 players ensures he can play every PGA tournament next year. The 38-year-old won the Myrtle Beach Classic and the Canadian Open in 2025.
