State Trooper shoots ex and her new boyfriend dead before turning weapon on himself

Daily Mail2 days ago
A New Jersey State Police sergeant fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in a chilling act of domestic violence before killing himself with the same weapon.
Sergeant First Class Ricardo Santos, once assigned to protect the state's governors, stalked 33-year-old veterinarian Dr. Lauren Semanchik and her boyfriend, 29-year-old firefighter Tyler Webb, at her home in Franklin Township on Friday evening.
Semanchik's body was found on Saturday. She had been shot in the back as she tried to flee. Webb lay nearby, also fatally wounded.
Santos' body was discovered hours later inside a white Mercedes SUV nearly 50 miles away in Piscataway, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A semiautomatic handgun was recovered from his vehicle.
'She was running away. She was shot in the back,' said Deanna Semanchik, Lauren's devastated sister. 'She gave so much of her life to other people and she deserved so much better.'
The killing has gripped New Jersey not only for its brutality but for the damning revelations now emerging that Semanchik had tried for months to escape Santos' obsessive control - and that multiple institutions, including law enforcement, failed to act.
Dr. Semanchik, 33, and Santos had only dated for three months in 2024 before she ended the relationship in September.
But what followed, according to her family and police records, was a year-long campaign of stalking, sabotage, and harassment.
'He showed up at her work. That's where the car was keyed. He put recording devices in her home, water in her gas tank. He harassed her left and right,' her sister told CBS News.
Lauren Semanchik had tried to block his calls but her ex used restricted numbers. She then tried to get restraining orders according to her mother, Jeannine Semanchik.
'A lot of agencies failed her. She tried to get restraining orders. Nobody called her back.'
One of Santos' own colleagues was reportedly contacted by Semanchik for help. Yet the abuse continued.
Santos' calculated final move was captured in haunting detail on security footage from a camera Semanchik had installed in her car - yet another precaution in the face of relentless stalking.
On Friday, August 1, the footage shows her car leaving Long Valley Animal Hospital, where she worked, around 5:25pm.
A white 2008 Mercedes SUV, later confirmed to be Santos', pulls out right behind her, tailing her for 30 miles to her home.
At 6:11pm, a figure can be seen creeping through the woods along her driveway.
At 6:45pm, Tyler Webb arriver at the home. Minutes later, neighbors heard screaming and gunshots, but when Franklin Township police responded to those 911 calls, they couldn't locate the source and left.
The next day, Lauren's father made the gruesome discovery.
His daughter and her boyfriend lay dead inside the home. Both had been shot.
Santos was found later that day, alone in his SUV in Johnson Park, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered in the vehicle.
Lauren Semanchik was a beloved veterinarian at Long Valley Animal Hospital.
In a GoFundMe page her colleagues described her as a kind-hearted, fiercely intelligent professional who poured herself into her work and treated animals and their grieving owners with grace and compassion.
'Not only was Lauren a phenomenal veterinarian, she was one of the kindest souls you could ever encounter and a friend to us all,' the hospital wrote in a public tribute.
'She was gentle, never judgmental, and gave hugs and hand-holding to families that needed support the most during their most difficult moments.'
Her team described her death plainly and forcefully. 'This is not a case of Not One More Vet (NOMV) or suicide; this was a double homicide.'
Dr. Semanchik's legacy is one of compassion and advocacy. She earned both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Wisconsin and volunteered with Lap of Love, a group offering end-of-life care for pets.
Her colleagues and friends described her as irreplaceable.
'Her attacker did not want to let her shine, but Lauren Semanchik is a light that will never dim,' wrote her clinic's practice manager.
The GoFundMe launched by Long Valley Animal Hospital is raising funds for funeral expenses and to honor her memory through charitable donations.
In their grief, her family has become adamant that Lauren's story not be reduced to another tragedy swept under the rug.
'She was deeply and unequivocally loved… She loved life, and she loved helping others. Her spirit, her love, and her light will forever shine bright in our hearts,' wrote her colleagues.
Tyler Webb, 29, was a member of the Pinewald Pioneer Volunteer Fire Company. His fellow firefighters called his death a heartbreaking loss for their community.
'Tyler served our department with dedication and honor… His contributions to our company and community will never be forgotten,' the fire company said in a statement.
The Semanchik family has expressed their rage and heartbreak, knowing that Santos evaded justice by taking his own life.
'He needs to have accountability. He took the cowardly way out,' said her sister.
Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée Robeson confirmed the case was being investigated as an act of domestic violence and a targeted double homicide.
'This senseless and devastating loss has deeply affected our entire community,' she said. 'While justice in the legal sense may not proceed, our commitment to supporting survivors and preventing future tragedies remains unwavering.'
Governor Murphy's office, where Santos once served in an elite security role, also issued a statement.
'We are shocked and devastated by this horrific tragedy.'

Woman beaten to a pulp in Cincinnati brawl says city's police chief and mayor have ignored her

A working-class woman who was severely battered in a wild street brawl in Cincinnati has claimed the city's police chief and mayor have not acknowledged her at all. The victim, only identified as Holly, was attacked in the downtown area of the Ohio city on July 26 around 3am alongside an unknown man. The violent encounter was captured on camera by several bystanders as Holly, who said she tried to step in to help the man, got beaten to a pulp and was left with brain trauma. In her first sit-down interview with political commentator Benny Johnson on Tuesday, Holly revealed she has been ignored by Mayor Aftab Pureval and Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge, who, according to Johnson, are 'implicated in this.' Johnson asked her: 'Has the mayor of Cincinnati or police chief been in contact with you?' 'No,' Holly replied, shaking her head as bruises covered her face. 'That's astonishing Holly, that the mayor of the city, who's implicated in this, and the police chief, who's implicated in this, have not even contacted you for the attempted murder that happened in their street live on camera,' Johnson continued as Holly agreed. Holly also said that police 'acted nonchalant' when they arrived at the scene and did not call for backup or an ambulance. 'They were less than helpful is all I can say. So, I wound up getting in my Uber when it showed up and went home and tried to sleep off the concussion,' Holly explained. 'They didn't even get a statement. No, the police were very, opposite of helpful.. They made me feel so uncomfortable. 'They don't even get my name. They don't even care enough to get my name.' She went on to defend her actions that night, noting that she was the only person who decided to jump in to help the man because it was 'the right thing to do.' 'There were 100 people there that night and I jumped in, I was the only one who jumped in, to try and save him because that was the right thing to do. 'And, yeah, unfortunately they attacked me as well for trying to do the right thing,' Holly added. Holly, who's described herself as a single working-class mother, said out of the large crowd of people, the only person who called 911 was another victim. 'So not one person decided to call 911 and then film these heinous crimes and attempted murder, because that is what it is no matter what they label it. 'It was attempted murder,' Holly said, adding that those who watched on should feel 'shame' for their actions Days after the video of the vicious fight went viral, Chief Theetge said the outrage surrounding it lacked 'context.' Chief Theetge also took aim at the media for only showing 'one version' of what occurred - without giving any more context about the fight herself. 'Social media and journalism and the role it plays in this incident, the posts that we have seen does not depict the entire incident,' she said. 'That is one version of what occurred. At times social media and mainstream media and their commentaries are a misrepresentation of the circumstances surrounding any given event. 'That causes us some difficulties in thoroughly investigating the activity and enforcing the law. Social media posts and your coverage of it distort the context of what actually happened, and that makes it more difficult.' Five suspects were arrested following the brawl - Jermaine Matthews, 39, Montianez Merriweather, 34, and Dominique Kittle, 37, and Patrick Rosemond, 38. Rosemond was arrested in Georgia on Monday and has been charged with two counts of felonious assault and aggravated riot, as well as one count of fugitive from justice for a fingerprintable charge. Police are still searching for a sixth suspect. Matthews and Merriweather were initially charged with aggravated riot and assault over the brawl. Jermaine Matthews, left, and Dominique Kittle are both facing charges in connection with the brawl Matthews, however, was hit with three more charges on Thursday - two felonious assault and one misdemeanor assault charge. It is alleged that Merriweather was the 'catalyst' for what detectives have described as a 'coordinated attack'. Kittle, who was taken into police custody on Friday night, was charged with felonious assault and aggravated riot. His bond was set at $150,000. An online fundraiser has since been created to help Holly get back on her feet following the fight. As of Wednesday morning, more than $530,000 was raised to help her out.

MTG urges Trump to pardon George Santos

Advertisement Marjorie Taylor Greene penned a letter urging Donald Trump to pardon disgraced former Congressman George Santos following the release of his emotional letter from behind bars demanding clemency. Santos was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud and identity theft and reported to jail less than two weeks ago. He was found guilty of fabricating thousands of dollars in campaign finance records during his successful 2022 congressional campaign. Prior to his conviction, a 2023 House Ethics Committee report found that he spent donors' money on Botox treatments, trips to casinos and at high-end luxury retailers. In an emotional letter penned from prison on Monday, Santos said he's facing harsh bathroom conditions in the medium security prison in New Jersey . Santos, 37, claimed that he started to cry after putting on a 'fluorescent yellow jumpsuit that made me feel like a caution sign in human form.' 'The tears came faster than I could stop them,' Santos wrote. 'I didn't care who saw. That reflection, in that moment, made the weight of my decisions, my mistakes, and the road that led me there all too real.' 'The bathroom, though, deserves its own horror novel,' he continued. 'The closest thing I can compare it to is an abandoned gym locker room from a forgotten high school - grim, damp, smelling of mildew and regret.' In a letter to the Justice Department on Monday, Greene urged the administration to ask the president for clemency consideration for Santos. The conservative firebrand claimed in her letter that Santos' sentence 'extends far beyond what is warranted.' She called his seven-year sentence 'excessive' and noted that other lawmakers who have 'done far worse still walk free.' 'George Santos has taken responsibility. He's shown remorse. It's time to correct this injustice. We must demand equal justice under the law!' But it's curious timing as Greene has fallen out of Trump's tight inner circle and GOP leadership. Earlier this week, the Georgia lawmaker told the Daily Mail that she believes the GOP is abandoning the 'America first' principles of the MAGA base. 'I think the Republican Party has turned its back on America First and the workers and just regular Americans,' she said. Although Greene did reiterate her loyalty to Trump, she has split with the administration's stance on Gaza by calling Israel's actions a 'genocide.' MTG also recently demanded the DOJ release all files relating to Jeffrey Epstein. Greene's letter also comes after Trump declined to rule out pardoning Santos during an interview with Newsmax last week. However, the president noted that Santos did 'lie like hell' during his Congressional tenure. Trump went on to praise Santos because his 'vote was solid' for Republicans, while adding, 'And I didn't know him, but he was 100 percent for Trump.' The president concluded that no one has approached him about pardoning the former GOP lawmaker. Santos has previously stated that he asked the White House for clemency consideration. In the past, Trump has provided sweeping pardons and clemency to individuals who have proven to be loyal supporters of his administration. Upon assuming office for his second term, Trump issued pardons for all individuals imprisoned for the Capitol riot on January 6th, 2021. Santos became embroiled in numerous scandals for lying about his education, employment history and personal wealth. After a scathing Ethics Committee report on his campaign's financial abuses, Santos was expelled from Congress in December 2023.

Self-confessed ‘psycho' hounded ex-lover with calls and texts & isolated him from pals in ‘campaign of fear and abuse'

A SELF-confessed "psycho" bombarded her ex-lover with calls and texts in a relentless "campaign of fear and abuse". Charmaine Bradbury also isolated Mark Price from his friends and family after leaving him terrified to leave his home. The 36-year-old hounded her ex with 94 calls in 24 hours on one occasion and bombarded him with dozens of texts. Bradbury even tried to pin the blame on Mark - claiming that he brought her "no joy" in put-down messages. She pleaded guilty to harassment but avoided jail and was instead slapped with a five-year restraining order. Crewe Magistrates' Court heard the couple had been in a relationship in January 2024 but broke up last June. Niamh Philips, prosecuting, said: "The parties had a conversation over WhatsApp and Mr Price blocked the defendant. However, whilst blocked, Miss Bradbury sent two unwanted text messages to Mr Price. ''The following day Mr Price received 74 missed calls from a private number to his work phone, from 8.25am to 3.35pm. Miss Bradbury left two voice mails from those calls. The same day there were 20 missed calls from Miss Bradbury's number to Mr Price's work phone. ''Again 28 text messages that same day from Miss Bradbury's number to the defendant's work phone. The messages ranged from being nice to vile resulting in her being arrested.'' The court heard Bradbury, who lists her Facebook status as "sweet but psycho", left Mark with nightmares and cold sweats. In degrading messages, she told him: "We both agree we do not want to be with each other. Just please leave asap. I am on the phone more than ever because you are not doing anything for me anymore. ''And I have genuinely gone off on us. You bring me no joy in my life at all any more. You depress me." Another putdown read: "I have never needed you and it is only the past couple of weeks that I have become more distant with you as this relationship is dead." Dad-of-two Mark told police how he lost his job as a result of the abuse. He added: "Charmaine isolated me from seeing my family and friends. "She continued to hold on to personal possessions including items of deep sentimental value. She refused to return them. That prolonged this trauma making it hard to move forward. "The impact on the children has been devastating due to the chaos caused by her actions. Important bonds have suffered and nightmares, cold sweats and severe anxiety became part of my life,. "I have been told that it will take time, possibly a long time to recover. I am determined to recover. "This is not just a case of harassment, Charmaine has conducted a campaign of control, fear and abuse which has affected me emotionally, physically, professionally and personally." As well as a restraining order, Bradbury was handed an 18-month community order. She must attend a Building Better Choices rehabilitation program and undergo 12 months of alcohol treatment. Bradbury was also ordered to pay Mark £250 in compensation. JP Alan Eyres said: "I've got to say this harassment is as bad as any I have seen for this kind of case. "There will be compensation to Mark Price for pain, suffering and mental health anguish. I appreciate that £250 goes nowhere near the kind of suffering but we have to be mindful of your means and income." 4 4 4
