Grimsby boss David Artell says win over Crawley is just the start
He said: 'I'm never satisfied, but we would've taken three goals from three different scorers with a clean sheet as well.
'It's just a start, and we should've scored more; we should've been a lot more ruthless.
'I don't want to sound like Scrooge at Christmas, but it's my job to keep raising standards and making sure that the players keep getting better.
'They deserve a huge amount of credit today, of course, but we'll keep coaching to get more out of them and make them better.
'We were dominant in all areas of the pitch, you don't have 41 touches in the opposition box otherwise.'
It was the dream start for Irish forward Kabia – signed from Truro City – and scoring early on in his EFL debut.
'He's a pest,' added Artell on debutant scorer Kabia.
'It's why we brought him to the football club. I ask myself with strikers whether I would've wanted to play against them, and I certainly wouldn't have with him.
'Dion Conroy is no mug, but I thought he got the better of him on numerous occasions, and he deserved his goal, which you want for your forwards early in the season.'
It was not the ideal start for Crawley, returning to League Two following relegation from the third tier last term, and head coach Scott Lindsey did not hold back in his assessment.
He said: 'We were rubbish, that's the truth of the matter, we didn't have a shot on goal until the 57th minute.
'We were clearly off it today; they won every single second ball in the middle of the park.
'They wanted it more than we did, which is not a reflection of me or what I want.
'We were miles off it, and we deserved what we got, which was nothing. The good news is that it won't reflect anything that we do this season.
'We got beaten 6-0 away at Swindon early on in the season, we got promoted, so it can happen.
'I didn't want that, but we will learn loads from it, and we obviously have to improve massively from it.
'We can have games where we don't play well, and we can accept that, but when they don't put the effort in, I can't accept that, and there will be some very frank discussions to make sure that isn't an issue.'

Naturally, the decision to not play the match against Burnley has led to concerns as to what action the players could take as the league season gets underway, with the Owls set to face Leicester City in their first match of the new Championship season. But the players explained that they 'want to reassure fans that there has not been, and will not be, any 'downing of tools' by any of us on the training ground, and we are all working as hard as we can'. 'However, we, like you, want our focus to be fully on what happens on the pitch and the new season ahead. This is proving to be really challenging and we have made it clear to the club that we want this situation to be addressed as soon as possible so decisions taken like the one not to play at Burnley are avoided in the future. We can then all move forward together as a club,' it added. The Owls's pre-season preparations have been thrown into chaos with the transfer embargo, the departure of Danny Rohl and the closure of the North Stand at Hillsborough, and there are doubts over whether they will be able to fulfil their first game of the season. That match comes against Leicester on Sunday, 10 August, with fans planning a protest against owner Dejphon Chansiri, who is under mounting pressure to sell the club.

The Instonians left-arm seamer had the excellent figures of 5 for 14, while CSNI's Emily Carville took three wickets as the Dutch were dismissed for 83 – Manouk Bruijn top-scoring with 28. Ireland's batters were soon in trouble in the chase, slumping to 24 for six with Mia Van Egdom taking three wickets. They were rescued though thanks to an unbroken seventh wicket partnership of 60 between Merrion's Aisling Lawlor, who made an unbeaten 28, and Clontarf's Genevieve Morrissey who scored 25 not out in the four-wicket win. Earlier, Ireland had won the morning game by 33 runs in another low scoring contest. Irish senior international Alice Tector top-scored with 24, and Bready's Millie Spence hit three boundaries in a quickfire unbeaten 21 as the Girls In Green made 118 for 8. CSNI opening bowler Vanessa Minford took three wickets in the Dutch reply as they were bowled out for 85 – skipper Lara Leemhuis making 20. There were also wickets for Erin Bond, Emily Carville, Anna Ellerby, and Millie Spence in a fine bowling effort. Ireland are back in action when they play Scotland on Tuesday afternoon, whom they also meet on Thursday morning.

Howd'yadoit proves a pleasant surprise for Lyons in Naas feature
Howd'yadoit left Ger Lyons 'gobsmacked', as Colin Keane timed it to perfection in landing the richly-endowed Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes at Naas. Completing a treble on the day, Keane got up close home on the 13-2 chance – who had shed his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking at Down Royal last month – to hold off Unbreakable Duke by a nose. Unbreakable Duke was subsequently demoted to third, with Summer Is Tomorrow promoted to second, following a stewards' inquiry into interference. British raider Jel Pepper (6-4 favourite) was fourth for Paul and Oliver Cole, while Prix Robert Papin winner Green Sense was withdrawn by Joseph O'Brien due to unsuitable ground. Lyons – who teamed up with Keane to land this race with Sacred Bridge in 2021 – admitted: 'I'm gobsmacked, as I didn't think he'd be good enough. 'What an honest horse, he's been doing it well. We wanted to win a maiden en route to winning a nursery, but he (handicapper) hit him with a mark that I thought was ridiculous for what I felt was a poor maiden. 'We came here because it was a good pot, and I said any bit of the prize-money is grand. Never in my wildest dreams did I think he'd win.' He added: 'I'm delighted as Sean's (Jones, owner) horses are now bought for and named by his sons Eddie and James to keep them interested and they are here today.
