The best Nintendo Switch 2 accessories for 2025
Sam Rutherford for Engadget
Now that the Switch 2 is finally here, you may be equally as excited to kit out your new console with the right accessories as you are to dive into Mario Kart World . Not only can the right accessories make it easier and more fun to play all of the games you love, but they can also make your gaming experience better in different environments, be it on the couch, in an airplane or in the car. We're excited to get our hands on some of the newest Switch 2 accessories (more on those below), but plenty of our favorite classics are compatible with the Switch 2 as well as older versions of the console. These are our current favorite Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, and we'll add to this list over time as we test out new gear.
Though we absolutely adore 8BitDo's PlayStation-styled Pro 2 gamepad for its versatility and design (so much so that we featured it in our Switch OLED accessories guide), for many the ideal controller style is that of the Xbox, with its thicker middle and centrally-placed left analog stick. Fortunately 8BitDo has released an update to its Ultimate controller, one with faster buttons and sensitive but also more durable thumb sticks. It's a luxury gamepad experience for a rather reasonable price. — Kris Naudus, Former Commerce Writer $60 at Amazon
It can always feel a bit weird to play your Switch in tabletop mode, hunched over a desk or table with the controller clutched in both hands. The Lite SE is made for gamers with limited mobility, but everyone can benefit from this controller that puts the shoulder buttons on the front and has a grippy back so you can just lay it flat on the table for a more arcade-like experience. It's also great if you just want to play it one-handed when you're busy with a drink or a needy pet. — K.N. $21 at Amazon
Our top pick for the best gaming headset, the Turtle Beach Atlas Air is a good place to start if you want a dedicated pair of cans to use with the Switch 2. These wireless headphones have an open-back design, which do let some ambient noise in but also create the sense that the game you're playing is happening around you rather than just inside your head. While the design isn't anything to write home about in terms of aesthetics, it's comfortable and lightweight at only 0.66 pounds, and its detachable boom mic will come in handy when playing online with friends. — Valentina Palladino, Deputy Editor $147 at Amazon Explore More Buying Options $180 at Best Buy
If you want most of the advantages of a gaming headset without all the bulk, the Tusq is a great mobile solution you can tuck into your bag. Like many earbuds made for mobile, the Tusq has a built-in mic. But, unlike most, it also has a detachable boom mic that'll ensure your voice comes in crystal clear when you need it the most. The headset uses a standard 3.5mm plug so it'll play nice with the headphone jack on your Switch, too. — K.N. $42 at Amazon Explore More Buying Options $58 at Walmart
One of our top picks for the best power banks, this Anker brick might be called a laptop power bank, but it can power up much more than just notebooks. Its 100W power delivery should be plenty of give your Switch 2 some extra juice while you're traveling, and you won't even have to remember to bring a USB-C cable with you since the brick has two built in. It performed well in our testing and we like its built-in display that shows the amount of power left in the bank itself, as well as the wattage funneling to each device you have connected to it. — V.P. $135 at Amazon
We're mentioning the SanDisk microSD Express Card in this guide for now since it's the only microSD Express Card we've been able to fully test at this point. In our testing, we found SanDisk's card to be super fast, with impressive sequential read and write speeds. At its best, it's roughly twice as fast as the best UHS-I models we've tested. It's on the expensive side, though, starting at $54 for 128GB, and currently its only other configuration is 256GB.
Ultimately, we recommend waiting for more microSD Express cards to become available so you have more options to choose from before buying. But if you simply must kick off your Switch 2 experience with expanded storage ad are willing to pay the price, this is a good option. — V.P. $54 at Adorama Explore More Buying Options $54 at Amazon$60 at Best Buy

I thought $149 was too cheap for a good espresso machine, but De'Longhi proved me wrong
Getting into coffee feels like learning a new language — and that's coming from someone who literally has a professional background in it. Don't even get me started on the specialist equipment that looks like medieval torture devices. While it's definitely worth getting one of the best coffee grinders and best coffee scales, all this equipment can be really daunting at the start. So I'll help you out by recommending the De'Longhi Stilosa. The best espresso machines are often around the $1,000 mark, especially big names like Breville. The De'Longhi Stilosa is one of the best beginner-friendly budget-friendly espresso machines. Although it needs some practice and finesse to get café-quality shots, I'll teach you exactly how to achieve that right now. I discuss everything in 2,000-word detail in my 4-star De'Longhi Stilosa review, but here's the TLDR: the Stilosa is a remarkable machine considering its price. It makes technically wonderful espresso, heats up quickly, and has a very powerful steam wand capable of aerating velvety milk. More often than not, when you try and snag a cheap espresso machine, you're left with watery, weak espresso that takes nothing like the cafe down the road, or even the Starbucks across town. Not the De'Longhi Stilosa, though. As promised, I'll teach you exactly how to turn this $149 gadget into an almost-Breville coffeemaking machine. Don't get me wrong, right out of the box, the Stilosa is great. It's capable of reaching 15-bar pressure and comes with single-walled portafilter baskets for 'proper' espresso. But for just $149, some sacrifices will have been made, and that comes in the form of accessories. First, I'd recommend repurposing the tamper that comes with the Stilosa and getting a cheap metal tamper. As the Stilosa has a 51mm portafilter basket (where the coffee goes, as you can see in the picture below), you'll need one of the same size. You can get a budget one for $6-9 on Amazon or a spring-loaded one for $42 on Amazon. Next, you'll need either an accurate kitchen scale, or one of the best coffee scales. This is to ensure you've got your ratios right. You should be aiming for around a 1:2 coffee to espresso ratio. For a double shot, I always dose 18g of finely-ground coffee for 36g of espresso. With my Wacaco Exagram Pro scale, this is very easy to achieve. Last, but very much not least, you'll need to check out the best coffee grinders. For my testing, I used the Eureka Mignon Specialita and the Comandante C40 MK4, but the Baratza Encore ESP is much more affordable and will be more than enough. With just the $199 Baratza grinder and the $49 Wacaco scale, you're well on your way to cafe-quality coffee with this $149 De'Longhi machine. You should also know that if you don't have a proper grinder, you will never achieve perfect espresso. Even if you have a $2,000 Breville Dual Boiler machine, your espresso will not be right. A good grinder is more important than the espresso machine itself — and the De'Longhi Stilosa is case in point. With a good grinder and professional technique, you can achieve technically perfect espresso with just a $149 machine. For more thorough info, I've already written about tips for making perfect coffee at home. Although I have a background in professional coffeemaking (barista-ing doesn't really have the same ring to it), it's very possible to get these results without fancy, professional equipment. The Baratza grinder and Wacaco scale I recommended above are both very reasonably priced for what they are, and can help you achieve results like this. The steam wand on the De'Longhi Stilosa is very powerful — at first, I thought perhaps even too powerful. However, with a little practice, I was able to get deliciously velvety microfoam. To do this, I just had to control my steaming angle. I held the milk jug at about a 45° angle and put the tip of the steam wand halfway in the milk. After tweaking a little to create a vortex, I aerated the milk and was able to pour the gorgeous latte art you can see above. The Stilosa's steam wand performs like a $500 espresso machine's, and I was incredibly impressed by it. This is truly a latte-art lover's dream. Don't get me wrong — I know the Stilosa doesn't look great. With a plasticky finish and an almost flimsy weight of just 2 pounds, it looks like it costs $149. Even so, I didn't find that this design impacted performance. Actually, the compact size of just 8 x 11 x 12 inches could actually be a plus for people with small kitchens. Although the Stilosa is very plasticky, you can't really ask for everything for something so affordable. It's just $149 (the U.K. version is £104), and some sacrifices will have been made to get achieve this super-low price. Function is, of course, more important than appearance, so I think it's reasonable to look past this plasticky aesthetic. However, it could raise some questions about longevity. As I'm often reviewing espresso machines simultaneously and in quick succession, I haven't had a chance to put the Stilosa to the long-term test yet. Sometimes plastic drip trays can erode and get a little flaky after long-term use, and sometimes plastic attachments can break off. However, De'Longhi offers a minimum warranty of one year, and my parents' De'Longhi Icona Vintage (£126, not available in the U.S. anymore) is still clinging onto life at nine years old. So, I'd have some faith in the cheap and cheerful Stilosa. In terms of cheap espresso machines, there's really no competition. No other budget machines I've used can rival the Stilosa. Let me know what you think in the comments. Do you think that the Stilosa worth $149/£104? Do you think it could go head-to-head with a pricier espresso machine?

I've played 8 Nintendo Switch 2 launch games — here's the 3 I'd buy first (Mario Kart World isn't one of them)
The Nintendo Switch 2 is out in the wild, and the first question most early adopters will be asking themselves is 'Which launch games should I buy first?' The obvious answer is Mario Kart World, but I'm going to be controversial here and say that Mario's latest karting adventure isn't the most essential title on the Switch 2 at launch. Don't get me wrong, it's plenty of fun, but I'm not convinced some of its changes are for the better, and I currently prefer the familiar comforts of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. During my first 24 hours with Nintendo Switch 2, I have played more than half a dozen titles that have convinced me this hybrid system already has a pretty healthy library right out of the gate. From Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition to the surprisingly enjoyable console showcase Nintendo Switch Welcome Tour, there are plenty of great games on Switch 2. After testing eight different games on my first day with the Nintendo Switch 2, here are the three that I recommend you pick up first if you've just secured the hybrid console for yourself. And if you're struggling to score one, check out our Nintendo Switch 2 restocks live blog for the latest stock update. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition was already a phenomenal game on platforms like PS5 and PC, so it's hardly a surprise that it's fantastic on Nintendo Switch 2. The open-world RPG from The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red sees you play a mercenary named V in the dark sci-fi megalopolis Night City and is packed with intense missions to complete and memorable characters to meet. It's pretty widely considered one of the best RPGs of recent times for a reason. What makes it such a standout in the Switch 2's launch library is that it's a pretty demanding title. It infamously ran atrociously on PS4 and Xbox One at launch in 2020. The fact that it's running, and running seriously well on the Nintendo Switch 2 — even better than on the Steam Deck — is the first sign that Nintendo's new hardware has some serious horsepower under the hood. Yes, it's not as visually lush as on a top-end gaming PC, or a PS5 Pro, and you won't get a 60 fps framerate, but the graphical compromises on Switch 2 are surprisingly slight, and having such a vast experience on a handheld is still awesome even in an era of gaming where powerful portables are becoming pretty standard. Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 is the definitive way to enjoy CDPR's critically acclaimed first-person open-world RPG on the go. You play a mercenary named V, completing missions in the dark city of the future, Night City, though your main aim is surviving the chaos that surrounds you. This Ultimate Edition also includes the essential Phantom Liberty DLC expansion, which opens up a new area of the map, the ruthless Dogtown. Am I cheating here by listing both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as a single list entry? You bet I am, but it's my list, I make the rules. Okay, if pushed for a single choice, I'd opt for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but the games are so closely linked that I think you can make the case for them being included in a single entry. Plus, Nintendo has been grouping them together in marketing materials, so don't @ me! Regardless of your first pick, these are two of the best games of all time, Breath of the Wild was my first ever Zelda game back in 2017 on the original Nintendo Switch and it's focus on largely unguided exploration, coupled with ingenious puzzles and surprisingly tricky combat resulted in an experience that very few titles since have managed to match in the past almost decades. Meanwhile, Tears of the Kingdom builds upon Breath of the Wild in seriously interesting ways by expanding your arsenal of abilities, and includes some of the most satisfying head-scratchers I've ever encountered in a video game. Just being able to manipulate objects and stick them together to create all sorts of inventions is pure Nintendo brilliance. The problem with these games was always the hardware they were confined to. The original Switch just wasn't powerful enough for such vast games, with so many physics-driven systems at its core. Blurry textures and framerate drops were an all too common problem. But thanks to their Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades, both games now play with a near-perfect framerate and look better than ever. Frankly, Tears of the Kingdom is so good on Switch 2, I'm tempted to return to my 4.5 out of 5 review from 2023 and now bump it up to a perfect score. The original Switch's definitive launch game has returned for the Switch 2, and now it's been enhanced for Nintendo's new hardware. It's the masterpiece you (probably) know, but looking and running better than ever. If you've never played Breath of the Wild, there really isn't a better time to jump into Hyrule than via this Switch 2 Edition. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the incredible direct follow-up to Breath of the Wild, and sees Link once again exploring a vast open Hyrule, as he hunts for answers regarding the mysterious gloom infecting the lands. whereabouts. This Nintendo Switch 2 Edition boosts both image clarity and framerate, making it the definitive way to enjoy one of the best games of recent years. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour took a lot of punches when it was revealed during the Nintendo Direct event. This collection of tech demos and micro-games is designed to showcase the unique features of the Switch 2, like the Mouse Mode and Joy-Con 2 controllers' HD rumble 2. The internet (and to be honest, myself as well at the time) declared that it should have been a free pack-in title ala Astro's Playroom on PS5 or Wii Sports on the Nintendo Wii. I do still think Nintendo probably should have given this game away for free with each Switch 2 console. However, after playing it myself, I'm pleasantly surprised. Is it worth the $10 cost? I think so (just). The whole experience is set within a giant Nintendo Switch 2, which has been retrofitted to be a museum-like hub. You pick a basic avatar and then run around collecting stamps and medals by completing mini-games and acing quizzes that test you on a series of fact files you just read. Granted, the latter activity does feel quite a lot like completing a training module at work! One micro-game, which casts you as a mini UFO trying to avoid falling objects using the Joy-Con 2 Mouse Mode, had me hooked for a good 15 minutes, as I was eager to beat the preset high score. Yes, it's a simple experience, but the clean art style is appealing, and it's very novel in concept. I've also already found Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour to be a great game to pick up if you want to showcase the console to your non-gamer friends and family, as it can be picked up and enjoyed with basically zero familiarity with gaming and controller experience. The $10 price point also makes it appealing if you're looking for an extra launch game that won't cost you a full $60-70. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour serves as a fantastic way to get familiar with the brand-new console. Set within a giant Switch 2, you walk around a Museum-like setting and complete micro-games and tech demos that showcase the console's new features, and also learn more about the technology that powers the Switch 2.
