With the Oscars right around the corner, fans may want to start the day with a breakfast treat.
McDonald's is offering Egg McMuffins and Sausage McMuffins with Egg for just $1 on Sunday, when ordered through the McDonald's app. Deemed Egg McMuffin Day, the celebration honors the breakfast sandwich's 50th anniversary.
As some food chains have announced surcharges to items containing eggs, due to the nationwide egg shortage, McDonald's promised prices will not rise.
"Unlike others making news recently, you definitely won't see McDonald's USA issuing surcharges on eggs, which are 100% cage-free and sourced in the U.S," McDonald's Chief Impact Officer Michael Gonda wrote in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday.
Who 'invented' the Egg McMuffin?
Herb Peterson, a McDonald's franchisee in Santa Barbara, California, is the brains behind the Egg McMuffin, introduced in 1975. Herb, according to a news release, presented a to-go version of the Eggs Benedict to Ray Kroc, the businessman who transformed McDonald's into what folks know it as today.
"When I watched my father introduce this idea to Ray Kroc, we could not have anticipated it would become the foundation for the renowned McDonald's breakfast menu," David Peterson, Herb's son and McDonald's owner and operator, said in a news release. "It's been remarkable to see people embrace this innovation over the last five decades, and now we get to share that heritage with a new generation of breakfast fans."
How many calories does the Egg McMuffin have?
The Egg McMuffin, made with an English Muffin, egg, Canadian Bacon, American cheese, salted butter and clarified butter, is 310 calories.

The Daily Money: In search of affordable rents
The Daily Money: In search of affordable rents Good morning! It's Daniel de Visé with your Daily Money. After seven years of work and more than $18 million invested, Harbor Village, a new affordable housing development in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, officially opened its doors in January. By the time the development started screening prospective tenants, there were over 400 applications. The median apartment rent in Carlisle was $1,259 in May. It was one of the fastest-growing areas for rent prices that month, according to a USA TODAY analysis. The review of Apartment List data for 202 metro areas found that average monthly rent between January and May was significantly higher in 94% of them, compared with the same period in 2019. Here's the full story. Why some US cities aren't slowing down Nashville and Phoenix landed high on a list of large U.S. cities expected to continue growing in 2025, even amid fears of a national recession. Controversial tariffs, immigration policies and shrinking federal spending have created uncertainty and may slow growth, but the top-performing cities still are expected to continue to make gains, economist Gerald Cohen told the USA TODAY Network. Cohen led a team of researchers who forecast the top midsize and large cities that are projected to continue growing. Here's what they found. How working Americans could lose Medicaid coverage A centerpiece of Donald Trump's tax bill would make millions of Medicaid recipients work, volunteer or study to maintain their publicly-financed health insurance. Republicans say the work requirement is vital to protect taxpayers while motivating nondisabled Medicaid recipients to take charge of their physical and fiscal health. But health advocacy groups and analysts say most recipients already work in jobs that don't provide affordable health insurance or pay enough for people to afford their own insurance. They say mandating a Medicaid work requirement − combined with more frequent eligibility checks − would create an administrative nightmare. 📰 More stories you shouldn't miss 📰 About The Daily Money Each weekday, The Daily Money delivers the best consumer and financial news from USA TODAY, breaking down complex events, providing the TLDR version, and explaining how everything from Fed rate changes to bankruptcies impacts you. US stock futures fall after Trump raises tariff tensions
U.S. stock futures are lower after President Donald Trump raises tariff tensions again by promising unilateral tariff rates within two weeks. He said he will send letters to trading partners in the next couple of weeks setting unilateral tariff rates, ahead of a July 9 deadline to reimpose higher duties on dozens of economies. Trump's new tariff threat contrasts with the more positive tone officials tried to strike after reaching a trade framework with China in London and earlier remarks from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Bessent said at a hearing before the House Ways and Means Committee that the Trump administration though was open to extending the current 90-day tariff pause beyond July 9 for the U.S.′ top trading partners, as long as they show 'good faith' in ongoing trade negotiations. Futures linked to the blue-chip Dow fell -0.60%, while broad S&P 500 futures dropped -0.41% and tech-heavy Nasdaq futures slipped -0.35.%. Another set of inflation data are due before the opening bell. Producer prices, or the the prices businesses pay for their goods and services, are expected to rise 2.3% on an annual basis in May, according to Bank of America economists. Without the volatile food and energy sectors, producer prices are seen up 2.7%, they said. Some economists expect some tariff-related inflation to appear as inflation first can be seen by businesses, before price increases are passed on to consumers. Oracle's results in the final three months of its fiscal year topped Street views. The company also said cloud infrastructure revenue will rise by more than 70% in fiscal 2026, up from a 50% growth rate in the prior fiscal year. Taco Bell announces three new menu items after crispy chicken nuggets trial run
Taco Bell is leaning into a crispy chicken summer with three new menu items. Following its limited release of crispy chicken nuggets, the fast-food chain will be introducing a crispy chicken taco for $2.79, a crispy chicken burrito for $5.49, and crispy chicken strips, which will include two pieces for $3.99. The new items will officially hit locations nationwide June 17. 'Crispy chicken is having a moment, but our fans made it a movement,' Taylor Montgomery, Chief Marketing Officer at Taco Bell, said in a press release. 'So, we decided to bring our sell-out Nuggets recipe to the formats that defined our brand because true innovation means elevating the icons, not replacing them. We're not like every other chicken spot out there, we're doing crispy chicken the only way we know how: full of flavor and unmistakably Taco Bell.' Each new menu item features one of Taco Bell's new crispy chicken strips, which are made from 'all-white meat chicken, marinated in fan-favorite, zesty jalapeño buttermilk flavor, and breaded with crispy tortilla chips and breadcrumbs.' The menu will also feature two sauces: a new spicy ranchero sauce, a creamy sauce made with Anaheim and jalapeño chiles, tomatoes, garlic, and onion, and an avocado ranch sauce. The announcement comes after Taco Bell re-launched its Crispy Chicken Nuggets for eight weeks in April. The move followed a December 2024 trial run where the chain sold out of the nuggets in less than one week. The return of the chicken nuggets was part of Taco Bell's 'journey to become a go-to destination for crispy chicken,' according to a press release at the time. 'We're a taco place doing chicken our own way and like all our best moments, it's a little unexpected – because we've never been about following the rules,' Montgomery said in a statement. 'The demand for our nuggets was off the charts, which is why we're looking at making crispy chicken permanent to give our fans what they are telling us they want.' When Taco Bell's Crispy Chicken Nuggets launched and subsequently sold out in December, 'roughly 5 million Americans' nationwide had bought the dish, with the nuggets included in 'almost one in six orders,' according to the press release. Taco Bell is the latest fast food restaurant to add chicken strips to its menu. Last month, McDonald's added to its line-up of McNuggets to include McCrispy Strips, which were paired with a Creamy Chili Dip.
