Diana Ross's 2025 Met Gala Gown Features an 18-Foot Train Embroidered With Family Names

Vogue Arabia06-05-2025

It's been 22 years since Diana Ross has graced the Met Gala with her iconic presence, but tonight, at the 2025 Met Gala celebrating Black dandyism, the legendary singer made her grand return—in epic style, no less. Ross shut down the red carpet this evening with a look that was equal parts glamorous and personal: Her sweeping white gown, punctuated with crystal and beads, featured an 18-foot train embroidered with the names of her children and grandchildren.
Ross's commanding design for the evening was brought to life from a close collaboration between Ross, her son Evan Ross, and the Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie. Together, they wanted to spotlight a tailored design that celebrated her own family legacy—by spanning the generations of the Ross name, and doing so through refined style. The embroidered names include her own children's—Rhonda, Tracee, Chudney, Ross, and Evan—and her eight grandchildren, Raif, Callaway, Everlee, Leif, Indigo, Jagger, Bronx, and Ziggy.
This evening marks Ross's fifth time attending the Met Gala. She first attended back in 1978 alongside legendary designer Halston. Since then, the singer has continued to bring her signature glitz to the Met steps, most notably in 2003 when she wore a flowy red Gucci gown. Her thoughtful design this evening, however, proved to be one of her most glamorous—not to mention incredibly sweet and memorable.

Georgina Rodríguez Talks Family, Fashion & Fame in Candid Interview by Cristiano Ronaldo

Calling it a modern-day fairy tale would not be an exaggeration. If today Georgina Rodríguez is one of the most followed and talked about women in the world, it was not always the case. Coming from a humble background, the Spanish-Argentenian was grinding as a shop assistant back in 2016, when her life took a dramatic turn. While working at a Gucci store in Madrid, a brief encounter with football's megastar Cristiano Ronaldo would change the course of her future. 'It was love at first sight,' they both said. By dating one of the most celebrated athletes of all time, 22-year-old Rodríguez turned into an overnight sensation. Loved but also less loved, she became the protagonist of endless scrutiny, with her fashion choices and lifestyle making her the talk of wherever she set foot. Rodríguez took this new moment with the utmost positivity and made the best out of her newfound celebrity status. To begin with, she became the leading role in the footballer's family life, becoming a key pillar in Ronaldo's career. Not only has she lovingly embraced his previous three children, she has also given birth to three more, and plans her days in a way that allows her to support the busy schedule of the athlete. On her Instagram bio, she proudly describes herself as 'mother of six blessings'. Photography by Sharif Hamza, Styling by Heathermary Jackson The family didn't slow down Rodríguez's own path forward in achieving her dreams. Strategically avoiding photoshoots or attending many public commitments next to the star athlete, she worked hard to carve an image of her own, to be more than just 'the partner of....' This materialised in a Netflix reality show that she also served as executive producer of in 2022, where she showcased her family life, friends, and other personal adventures. The title? I am Georgina , leaving no question that Rodríguez was there to make a first-person statement. Commanding a devoted audience of over 66 million Instagram followers (with post engagement reaching up to 60 million), and a serious dose of star power, Rodríguez's fashion career is in full bloom. She was photographed on the cover of different Vogue editions (no children or husband in sight) and has collaborated with brands such as Chopard, Charlotte Tilbury, Guess, and Moncler. Another unexpected turn came in 2023 when the power couple moved to Saudi Arabia, part of the country's effort to establish its football scene. With her dark eyes, glossy jet-black hair, and habit of supporting regional brands such as couturier Ali Karoui, Rodriguez became one of Arabia's most engaging celebrities, causing a real uproar wherever she goes. However, it was in New York where Vogue Arabia caught up with the 31-year-old model, as she was getting ready to add another achievement to her list of victories: attending the Met Gala for the first time ever – a debut dressed in Vetements. In between coffee and hair spray, Ronaldo joined over the phone, to conduct the intimate conversation you are about to read. Do not disturb. Photography by Sharif Hamza, Styling by Heathermary Jackson Cristiano Ronaldo: This cover is taking place before your first appearance at the Met Gala. I know you were very excited... Why was it so important for you to be a part of it? Georgina Rodríguez: The Met Gala is the most important event in the world of fashion. It hosts the biggest celebrities and the best designers, making it the most special and magical event anyone could dream of. Since I was little, I've followed all the galas very closely. I've discussed the looks with my friends, and it's very special for me to have been able to be part of this wonderful moment. This is another dream I've been able to fulfill, and I'm very grateful for it. CR: Over the years, you've invested a lot in your career in fashion. Is it something you've always wanted to do? GR: It is necessary to be very consistent, to achieve what you set out to do. I have always wanted my work to be related to fashion. I started working as a sales assistant for the Inditex group, Kering and Prada. In one way or another, I have been able to achieve everything I have set out to do with a lot of effort and dedication, such as attending Paris Fashion Week, modelling in advertising campaigns for incredible brands, covers of Vogue, the Met GALA… CR: You've also worked hard and become a public figure in your own right. Not just "Ronaldo's wife." What are the advantages and disadvantages? GR: It has been difficult because we live in a very complicated world where everything can change very quickly. Thankfully, I am a person who always looks at the positive side of life. Even though some people label me as 'the girlfriend of', I am very proud to be your wife, and of our family, and there is nothing negative about it – on the contrary, I have shown through my personality and my strength that I have my own light and path to follow. I have been able to show who and how I am in my Netflix reality show, among many other individual projects in which the public has gotten to know me better. Also, the brands I work with have trusted me for who I am. Although they knew me for being your wife, I have managed to open my path by showing myself too. Photography by Sharif Hamza, Styling by Heathermary Jackson CR: I see you travelling all over the world for work, and I'm amazed at how you manage to keep our home together. This balance seems very important to you… GR: For me, the most important thing is you and our family. Everything I do professionally revolves around your well-being. All my shoots and work commitments are organised around our family's availability. Our children always accompany me on all my trips so I can enjoy them at all times. I'm also lucky enough to be able to choose the projects I want to pursue in my career. I also choose them based on your sports schedule and the safety of our family's needs. Our family comes first. CR: Do you remember the days when we weren't 'famous'? Do you miss those days, or do you prefer the present times? GR: If I tell you the truth, I no longer remember clearly what day-to-day life was like without being famous... Of course, you are on another level, but in my case I have adapted to this situation of being very well known. It is part of our routine and our daily life. We are a very normal family despite everything, we love being together and making plans. Being famous does not stop us, we just adapted to this new stage of life. Photography by Sharif Hamza, Styling by Heathermary Jackson CR: What was the first thing you felt when you met me? GR: I felt something inside that can't be explained, as if we had known each other all our lives. I remember that when we held hands for the first time I felt inexplicable peace and energy. When people are in love like we are, they know what that strong connection is. That spark we had since we met has also grown and matured over time. CR: We have a large family that, fortunately, has access to many things we didn't have when we were kids. How are you raising our children to remain 'normal'? GR: The most important thing is that they grow up in a healthy and loving environment, and we are very close and present parents. Even though they have all the possibilities in the world, we make them work and understand that they have to be fighters, and that they are very lucky to have everything they have. Our job as parents is to make them value and grow into good people, grateful for life. Photography by Sharif Hamza, Styling by Heathermary Jackson CR: What was it like moving to Saudi Arabia? The good, and the bad? GR: For me, it's always the same routine and daily life wherever I am, it doesn't matter if it's Manchester or Italy. Our day-to-day life is school for the kids, extracurricular activities, being at home, at the gym... Our life revolves around football and the kids, and we adapt wherever we are. In this case, Saudi Arabia is a country that has welcomed us with much love and open arms. It's also a very family-oriented country, and I only have good words and gratitude. On another hand, what I miss most is being so far away from my family, as it's difficult to get here. I'd like to be closer to them. CR: What do you like most about me? And what do you like the least? GR: What I like most about you is your heart, how kind you are, how well you take care of our family, and the unconditional love you give us. The least... I've already told you this in private many times! [laughs] Photography by Sharif Hamza, Styling by Heathermary Jackson CR: Would you like to continue your reality show? GR: The reality show has been one of the most important professional experiences and the one that has made me most excited. It has been a lot of work and requires so much effort. I like that it has given me the opportunity to show the real 'me' to the world. It has been the most important and large-scale project that I have done so far. However, at the moment, I do not plan to continue with the reality show. CR: You have a lot of fans on Instagram, but also some less pleasant people. How do you deal with the bad comments? GR: I'm very lucky because I have a wonderful audience that follows me and lets me know the love they have for me and my family. It's a blessing because I'm a person who always focusses on the positive. I do like to hear constructive criticism when it comes from people who inspire me. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and I don't like everyone either, so it's impossible to please all the millions of people on the planet. Regarding comments, the truth is that I don't waste my energy on them, and I don't hate people for doing so. It must be quite sad to dedicate yourself to insulting people you don't know. It makes me feel sorry for these people. Photography by Sharif Hamza, Styling by Heathermary Jackson CR: What is our best memory together? GR: One of the most beautiful memories I have was my 27th birthday, which we celebrated in Courmayeur alone. It was an unforgettable and a very romantic trip. CR: What is a dream that you have not yet fulfilled? GR: Emotionally I am completely happy, as I have fulfilled my dream of creating an incredible family. It's so wonderful that I can only thank God and life for this blessing. Professionally, I still have many dreams to fulfill despite having achieved many of the most important ones in fashion. I have many new projects that I hope you see soon, and which I am very excited to share. Stay tuned.

9 celebrity jewellery looks that made a statement

2. Audrey Hepburn's Tiffany & Co pearls in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' (1961) Above Breakfast at Tiffany's' launched numerous celebrity jewellery moments (Photo: IMDB) Nothing says 'iconic' like Audrey Hepburn gazing into a Tiffany's window in Breakfast at Tiffany's . The multi-strand pearl necklace she wore with a Givenchy black dress wasn't hers, but it cemented Tiffany & Co's place in pop culture and made pearls eternally chic. It also introduced the idea of fine jewellery as aspirational, cinematic luxury. 3. Lady Gaga's Tiffany & Co diamond at the Oscars (2019) When Lady Gaga stepped onto the red carpet wearing the legendary 128.54-carat Tiffany Diamond—previously worn only by Mary Whitehouse (at the 1957 Tiffany Ball) and Audrey Hepburn (for Breakfast at Tiffany's promos)—she gave the historic yellow diamond its most modern moment yet. Styled with black gloves and an Alexander McQueen gown, it was a homage and a power play all at once. 4. Rihanna's Chopard diamonds at Cannes (2017) Rihanna shut down the Cannes red carpet in custom Chopard—including a watch reimagined as a choker. The look wasn't just stunning—it marked the launch of her co-designed Rihanna ♥ Chopard collection and redefined red carpet jewellery as edgy, fashion-forward and layered, not just traditional. 5. Princess Diana's sapphire engagement ring (1981) Chosen by Diana from a Garrard catalogue (not custom-made), the 12-carat sapphire surrounded by diamonds was controversial for its 'off-the-rack' accessibility. It later became one of the most globally iconic celebrity jewellery pieces, and even more so when Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with the same ring in 2010. It is now arguably the most famous engagement ring in the world. 6. Beyoncé's Lorraine Schwartz diamonds at the Met Gala (2014) Paired with her sheer Givenchy gown, Beyoncé's black diamond chandelier earrings were a high-drama highlight of the 2014 Met Gala. Lorraine Schwartz and Beyoncé have a long-standing relationship, and this jaw-dropping look proved that diamonds can be as daring as they are dazzling. 7. Marilyn Monroe's diamonds in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' (1953) Above Celebrity jewellery doesn't have to feature gold carats and flawless diamonds to make an impact. While the dazzling diamond necklace Marilyn wore in the 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' number wasn't real, the scene remains one of the most referenced jewellery moments in film history. The fantasy of diamonds as a girl's ultimate bestie is forever imprinted on pop culture. 8. Kim Kardashian's Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring (2016) Valued at over US$4 million, the 20-carat ring Kanye West gave Kim became notorious after it was stolen during a Paris robbery. It was a defining piece of the Kardashian jewellery narrative—jaw-dropping, headline-making and inseparable from celebrity security discourse. See more: Happy birthday, Kim Kardashian: Here's how the influencer built her business empire 9. Zendaya's Bulgari emerald suite at the Venice Film Festival (2021) As a Bulgari ambassador, Zendaya has delivered major celebrity jewellery moments, but her appearance at the Venice Film Festival wearing an emerald and diamond Bulgari suite with a sculptural Balmain gown was peak modern goddess.
