Fitch affirms ‘AA' rating with Stable Outlook for ADNOC Murban

A. SREENIVASA REDDY (ABU DHABI) Fitch Ratings has affirmed ADNOC Murban's Long-Term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'AA' with a Stable Outlook, signalling very strong credit quality and confidence that the rating will remain steady in the near term. The agency also affirmed 'AA' ratings for ADNOC Murban's senior unsecured notes and sukuk certificates. ADNOC Murban is ADNOC's primary debt-capital market funding vehicle, having issued $5.5 billion of debt since 2024, with Fitch estimating a potential additional issuance of up to $4.5 billion over the next three years.Fitch's rating reflects ADNOC Murban's strong operational and strategic ties to its parent, ADNOC, and the latter's sole shareholder, the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Unlike traditional financial companies, ADNOC Murban's debt is not guaranteed by the parent. However, it generates sufficient cash flow to service its debt, due to its rights over the assigned volumes of Murban crude oil produced by ADNOC. Murban crude oil is Abu Dhabi's flagship crude oil grade. ADNOC Murban has rights to receive 1 million barrels per day of ADNOC's crude oil production for 30 years — equivalent to 20–25% of ADNOC's total production capacity. This entitlement, backed by a firm volume availability commitment and a cash settlement backstop from ADNOC, ensures robust cash flow generation even under conservative oil price scenarios. Fitch estimates that at Brent crude prices of $60 per barrel, ADNOC Murban would generate annual EBITDA of about $23 billion. The company is exempt from oil production taxes and royalties, and incurs no capital or significant operating expenses. Excess cash flow is channelled to ADNOC through dividends or repayment of capital contributions, but these payments are subordinated to debt obligations. Fitch noted that ADNOC Murban's cash flow resilience is exceptionally strong. Even if prices fell to $1 per barrel, the company is expected to comfortably service interest payments on its debt, and at $20 per barrel, it could repay up to $7 billion of principal annually — reducing the likelihood of needing support from ADNOC or Abu Dhabi. The agency also highlighted ADNOC Murban's low leverage, with projected EBITDA gross leverage staying below 1.0x even if total gross debt rises to $10 billion over the next three years, and conservative interest coverage of at least 40 times through 2028.
Strategic and operational incentives for ADNOC to support ADNOC Murban are considered high, reinforced by overlapping management and its integration within the group's operations.

Oil prices fall more than 1% amid Trump-Putin summit in Alaska

Oil prices fell by more than 1 per cent to end the week lower as leaders of the US and Russia held a meeting in Alaska to end the Ukraine war that has shaken oil markets for more than three years with supply concerns. Brent, the benchmark for two thirds of the world's oil, settled 1.48 per cent lower at $65.85 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate – the gauge that tracks US crude – was down 1.81 per cent at $62.8 a barrel. For the week, Brent dropped 1.1 per cent, while WTI eased 1.7 per cent. Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump met in Alaska on Friday to hold discussions to end Ukraine war that has killed hundreds of thousands of people and disrupted global financial and commodity markets. However, the summit ended without a ceasefire deal but Mr Trump described his meeting with his Russian counterpart as 'productive', adding that they 'really made some great progress' on ending the war. 'There were many, many points that we agreed on, most of them, I would say, a couple of big ones that we haven't quite got there, but we've made some headway,' Mr Trump told reporters. 'I've always had a fantastic relationship with President Putin, with Vladimir.' Mr Trump offered no further details of their discussions in an interview with Fox News after the meeting, but raised the possibility of another summit that included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensk yy. "While there was no ceasefire, US President Trump made also clear that he doesn't plan to penalise the largest buyer of Russian oil, China," Giovanni Staunovo, a strategist at Swiss bank UBS told The National. "I guess market participants will today track comments from European leaders, but for now Russian supply disruption risks will remain contained." Oil markets were heavily affected after war broke out between Russia and Ukraine more than three years ago. Oil prices surged to $140 a barrel in March 2022, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions by the US and the UK on the import of crude from Moscow. However, prices fell in the subsequent months, amid a number of factors impacting markets, including concerns of a global economic slowdown, high inflation and a China slowdown. A ceasefire deal between Ukraine and Russia could have a bearish effect on oil markets as more Russian oil could flow into global markets if sanctions are eased on Moscow. However, if the peace agreement is not reached between the two countries, it will support oil prices by limiting Russian supply. 'US crude recently breached the $65 support and is consolidating in a medium-term bearish zone, where ample supply and cloudy demand argue for further downside – though a softer dollar is cushioning the slide,' said Ipek Ozkardeskaya, senior analyst at Swissquote Bank. Supply forecast for 2025 The International Energy Agency this week raised its forecast for oil supply growth this year following a decision by the Opec producer group to hike production and lowered its demand forecast due to lacklustre demand across the major economies. The IEA expects world oil supply to rise by about 370,000 barrels a day to 2.5 million barrels a day in 2025 and by 620,000 bpd to 1.9 million bpd in 2026, after the eight Opec members this month decided to raise production by another 547,000 bpd in September, fully unwinding the 2.2 million bpd cuts agreed to in November 2023. World oil demand will rise by 680,000 bpd this year, down from 700,000 bpd previously forecast, the Paris-based agency said. 'The latest data show lacklustre demand across the major economies and, with consumer confidence still depressed, a sharp rebound appears remote,' the Paris-based agency said. Consumption in emerging and developing economies has been weaker than expected, with China, Brazil, Egypt and India all revised down compared with last month's IEA report.

ADNOC's AI Push Spurs H1 2025 Earnings Surge

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai ADNOC Group's six publicly listed entities posted a combined net profit of USD 4.7 billion for the first half of 2025, underscoring how the widespread deployment of advanced artificial intelligence across operations has sharpened efficiency and underpinned robust growth. At the heart of this transformation lies MEERAi, ADNOC's proprietary AI platform. It is deployed across ADNOC Gas, ADNOC Distribution, ADNOC Drilling, ADNOC Logistics & Services, Fertiglobe and Borouge, delivering real-time, data-driven insights that are elevating decision-making and operational precision across the board. ADVERTISEMENT ADNOC Gas achieved a record Q2 net income of USD 1.385 billion, marking a 16 per cent year-on-year rise, while EBITDA increased 8 per cent to USD 2.256 billion, propelled by surging local demand and operational prowess. Investors will see the payoff as the board approved an interim dividend of USD 1.792 billion, up 5 per cent, due for disbursement in September 2025. MEERAi's impact was central in guiding the board's strategic decisions. ADNOC Distribution delivered its highest first-half EBITDA to date—USD 566 million, up 10 percent—with net profit climbing 12.2 percent to USD 358 million. Fuel volumes surged to a record 7.62 billion litres, and non-fuel retail gross profit lifted 14.9 percent. The AI-driven enhancements include predictive fuel-demand forecasting, intelligent assortment planning and hyper-personalised customer offerings. The company introduced MEERAi to its board for real-time strategic oversight, and it expects to distribute a USD 350 million dividend in October 2025. ADNOC Drilling also delivered standout performance, with management attributing its ability to scale through diverse energy cycles to advanced technologies including AI. The board approved a USD 217 million second-quarter dividend in August 2025. The company is also pursuing regional expansion, including a majority stake acquisition in SLB's land drilling business across Kuwait and Oman. Borouge's AI, digitalisation and technology programme generated USD 307 million in value, including an AI-powered control room in collaboration with Honeywell and integration with MEERAi. New product innovations such as medical-grade polyolefins and recyclable packaging also featured prominently. Meanwhile, ADNOC's broader push to harness AI is also playing a central role in its clean-energy pivot. Following earlier investments in AI tools like RoboWell and AR360, which generated USD 500 million in value and reduced around one million tonnes of CO₂ emissions between 2022 and 2023, the company is now deploying AI to advance low-carbon energy frontiers including hydrogen and carbon management, in partnership with entities such as SOCAR, Microsoft and Masdar. Across all six listed companies, the near-term financial performance echoes the effectiveness of ADNOC's strategy of embedding AI across both core operations and emerging markets. The unified deployment of MEERAi is not just enhancing control-room functions, but reshaping boardroom dynamics, driving smarter strategy execution, operational optimisation, emissions reduction and product innovation. Key players in this transformation include the leadership of ADNOC Distribution, championing digital retail evolution; ADNOC Drilling's CEO Abdulla Ateya Al Messabi, who has publicly credited AI for the company's resilience and growth momentum; and the broader ADNOC executive team, aligning technology and energy transition goals. Their collective efforts are reinforcing ADNOC's position as a global energy player committed to leveraging AI for sustainable value creation.
